- Hi again everyone!
Welcome back to the King's College London International Relations Today UA-cam channel. Today's video is the first in our IR: 101 series in which we discuss the basics and foundations of International Relations. This week we have Carlos Beaujean (2nd year IR student and IR Today contributor) hosting the episode, and have invited Marie Ascencio (2nd year IR student, IR Today's Latin America Editor, and Chief Editor of the KCL Latin America Society) to teach us about her favourite school of thought in IR, realism. We hope you enjoy the video and learn a little more about international relations!
International Relations Today is a multimedia platform opening up the world of publishing to undergraduates interested in voicing their thoughts and opinions about the questions which make the world go around. We focus on international relations and are made up of an all undergraduate in-house editing team based in the corridors of the War Studies Department at King’s College London.
In the video: Marie Ascencio (IR Today Latin America Editor) and Carlos Beaujean (IR Today Host)
Filmed and edited by: Anna Huang (IR Today Digital Media Editor)

Can anyone sum up what is Realism?
States act rational and egoistic based on strategic/material interests
Self help in the face of anarchy
I'm a physics graduate and feel very out of place in this comments section.
That's not what anarchy means. Anarchism is an ideology of the abolition of unjust hierarchies. I doubt realism denies the existence of hierarchies in int rel
Could you please explain more?
I think they see it from an international point of view, where there is no higher power of Law to rule and to regulate the relations, thus the anarchy/chaos, your anarchy i believe is from a marxist point of view where the abolition of the different social classes (Mainly Bourgeoisie and Prolitariat ) and thus anarchy that leads to the goal of the latter
Do your research buddy
This is the basic theory of Anarchy and no wrong is their explanations.
They're talking about anarchy in international relations theory not the anarchist political movement/ideology
