    This dial is very much like a mandala design, or even a lotus flower design. Especially with the circular direction of the facets. Absolutely beautiful. The red one, ("Negroni" I think), is fascinating too!

    I bought this a while back. I looked at it through a loupe lens since I remembered you saying about the imperfection on the date window. Turns out it isn't a rough imperfection, it's actually a finishing similar to the hour markers. Grainy on the inside then polished on the outer edge.

      One side brushed, one side polished. I think it's supposed to help catch the light, actually a cool detail

    I bought the green version of this. I agree with most of what you say, especially about the fantastic dial. However, one point I might disagree a bit is that it's not versatile to use with all kinds of straps including NATOs. I understand that some dress watches really look weird with a NATO strap but this one, being a dress watch, has a little bit sportiness to it in my opinion. As soon as I bought it, I put a dark green NATO with a yellow line in the middle. It matched the green dial with goldish numerals almost perfectly and looks even better than the original leather strap.

    Very beautiful watch and more appropriate size for a modern dress/dressier watch.
    I have a limited edition Cocktail time SRPC03 that I bought in Japan that I am a fan of, but the dial texture is much more subtle than this.
    I like the original 40mm cocktail case due to its relative short lug-to-lug, but I imagine that this smaller case would make it fit even more wrists and be better suited in more formal attire.
    I toned down my Cocktail Time by putting it on a rubber Uncle Seiko Waffle strap and actually take it hiking and wear it on a regular basis.

    • @theknightswatch
      @theknightswatch  3 роки тому +2

      I love the srpc03. Just a lovely texture. I agree the 40mm case wears well but as I do normally prefer a smaller watch I do like this smaller case more. Love that you made the presage more casual. “Dress watches” can be worn whenever, maybe minus swimming.

      @@theknightswatch before the flu I traveled to SE Asia a few times; and going through Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos I saw many older European travelers wear their dress watches on rubber or nylons bands. Still get to enjoy a piece you love and you don’t have to destroy a leather band in the 80% humidity or deal with stinky leather.

    I wish they'd just close the caseback and put a nice engraving on it. It would also save a millimeter in thickness for an already thick watch.
    Otherwise beautiful piece, I've seen them in real life and love the brown-red version also. Looks amazing on that dusty leather strap.
    My favourite cocktail time is still the light blue, older model, but I lean towards lighter dials anyway. If only they made it at a smaller size!

    • @theknightswatch
      @theknightswatch  3 роки тому +3

      The caseback engraving is a very cool idea. My only thought on that is this type of range is very often a good entry point for starting/ new colllectors and at that stage any movement is awesome to see. And knowing Seiko I don’t think they’d go for that cool of an engraving at the price.

    • @theknightswatch
      @theknightswatch  3 роки тому +1

      Ya people usually like sapphire but I think if people are still waiting to pay 3-6k for the speedmaster and vintage Rolex with acrylic crystals then I don’t think this at 400 isn’t too bad.

    • @cy4624

      @@theknightswatch no sapphire is not a deal breaker...watch is more than sum of parts. I rather have a watch that speaks to me than higher spec'd watch that gathers dust in my drawler.
      I/many collectors actually prefer acrylic on vintage/vintage themed watches due to its charm/warm distortion.
      Take acrylic over sapphire anyday on my speedy. Love my vintage Rolex with acrylic/hollow bracelet more than my newer ones due to comfort/charm.

    Another top notch review! IMO if they would have put in the 6R35 movement (70hrs) , a sapphire crystal, more polished numerals, and a crown with a less tapered base for under $1000 this would be a home run. Still for $425 it’s not bad just not as great as could have been for a few hundred more

    Awfully nice to see the “Mockingbird” right next to this one, I think I’m picking between that and the Mojito, despite the charms of this blue dial and other color ways. They’re all beautiful, but I’ll probably go with the Mojito. I think as an everyday dress watch it’s hard to argue with.
    If you had to go with just one green dial, what would your preference be?

    • @theknightswatch
      @theknightswatch  3 роки тому +3

      I personally don’t like gold so that rules the mojito out for me but I do like the size and depth of color more than the mockingbird. Can’t go wrong with either but the mojito is probably better as long as you like gold.

      @@theknightswatch Thanks, I appreciate your thoughts on it! I guess I hadn't really considered the gold aspect-probably would be too much for me if they did the case in gold tone as well, but with just the indices I figure it's much like the green Alpinist, which I don't mind. Thanks for including the little strap section as well, there are so many options out there it's great to see what others have chosen, and I really like your pairings.

      Seiko 5 is entry lv with no screw down crown and 4r movements - 40h reserve. $400
      Presage have entry lv 4r movements, but are more presage. Domed crystals, applied indices and better finish. $400-$800. expensive ones have 6R movements with 70h power reserve.
      Prospex line is for sport - the real stuff. Water resistance, sd crown, sapphire crystal, lumibright lume.
      Lots of history, movie presence and so on. Divers - Chrono stuff.
      These are around $500 solar quartz - to $1000 for an average guy. Over that is Oris territory.
      For your reference: $400- 4r movement. $800 and over 6r movement - over that is 8r maybe and spring drive. - $2-3-6k again you are looking at swiss ih you have that kind of k.

    ATTENTION à cette boucle déployante Seiko. Elle est TRES dangereuse. Elle prend TRES vite du jeu jusqu'au jour où la montre fini par tomber par terre. Ca m'est arrivé, la montre est tombé sur le carrelage et a été endommagée. C'est arrivé à un ami avec le même fermoir et il a eu la chance que la montre tombe sur un tapis.
    La question n'est pas de savoir si la montre tombera. la question est de savoir quand elle tombera et où.
