  • My 13 year old Furnace was making a high pitched squeal, so I did some trouble shooting and narrowed it down to the Inducer motor. This was an easy DIY, save yourself a bunch of money and skip calling the HVAC company.
    This is a how-to guide on replacing part number HC21ZE122A, a Bryant or Carrier Inducer Motor
    i bought it for just under $90 on amazon: amzn.to/2SFgfYO
    you only need basic tools like a 1/4" drive socket a flat head screwdriver and a 1/8" allen key.

    Just ordered the part and it's on its way. You've saved me a bunch! Thank you.

    If anyone is replacing the inducer motor themselves, you absolutely must replace a high temperature gasket that sits between the motor assembly and the case. The old gasket that we could see in this video is fully destroyed (ua-cam.com/video/VGvi6A4JBco/v-deo.html) and not capable of properly isolating the air flow. It is prone to leak carbon monoxide outside of the combustion chamber which is very dangeourous. In addition, if you have a budget, pay a bit more and replace the entire assembly, not just the motor, This way you'll avoid all the errors of reassembling all the parts together and will have a fully working furnace for another 10-15 years. In addition, the full assembly comes with an installation guide, a new gasket, and a set of new screws instead of the old rusty ones.

    You forgot to mention a gasket when reassembly the unit.

    For that fan where you have the allen key to get that motor coupling off, I believe there should be one fan blade directly in line with it, with an opening for the allen key. If you pause at 6:33 you can see it on the blade 2 left of the thumb, where the bottom of the blade is open.

    • @PlatoonGarage
      @PlatoonGarage  2 роки тому +1

      Correct, there is a small space in-between 2 of the fan blades that allows you to get the Allen key in there. 👍

      @@PlatoonGarage I ended up doing this job today. I got lucky, the set screw on the motor I was able to break off fairly quickly, I thought my allen wrench was going to snap but it didn't. My old motor was acutally OK. It was making a ton of noise when it was spinning, but it turned out I think some rust dust got into the bearings. I put the new motor in, but cleaned up the old motor and now the old one doesn't make any noise either and spins just fine. So I guess I'll keep it in case something happens. Very easy repair though

      @@tinyku awesome job. I remember applying a lot of force in that Allen key and thinking it was gonna snap for sure, only to have it break the set screw loose.

    Thanks for the video. I ordered the entire assembly so I will be replacing it today. Question, the new assembly already has the bolts in the rubber isolators, do I have to take those out? Seems like I could just leave them on there and remove the 3 mounting screws...

    For the rubber isolaters, did you tighten them all the way? I have the same type motor but it makes a loud rattling noise when the fan kicks on. I'm wondering if I need to tighten the screws on the rubber isolaters. Hvac guy that installed mine is trying to tell me its normal.

    • @PlatoonGarage
      @PlatoonGarage  Рік тому +1

      The screws are tight, but the rubber isolators are supposed to allow for a little bit of flex but not loose. Hopefully that helps some

    Mine is similar to yours. My fan wasn’t turning. I flipped it with my hands. It spun for a bit and went back off. So I sprayed it with some blaster and it started to spin. The heat fired up too. So it stopped and no heat again. But it’s still spinning. My question. If it’s spinning shouldn’t the heat come? I just need it to run a bit until I can order the motor off Amazon.

    • @PlatoonGarage
      @PlatoonGarage  2 роки тому +2

      I'm no expert on these. But I think the fan comes on and spins for a while and then the ignition has a glow plug that heats up, then the gas turns on and everything works to blow the hot air through the system.
      Maybe you have a sensor or something in the ignition that's not working properly

    the tin guard above the outside plastic fan wheel vibrates and when a squeeze it with my hand it stops making noise? Is the fan motor bad or does it just need re positioned? or replaced.?

    • @PlatoonGarage

      Hard to say without being able to look at it myself. If you think you can reposition it or maybe apply oil to make it quieter try that first before replacing.

    • @PlatoonGarage
      @PlatoonGarage  2 роки тому

      Hard to diagnose from your description. The black fan is just attached to the inducer motor, so if it's not spinning, then chances are the motor has failed and won't turn at all

    No gasket??? Exhaust that carries carbon monoxide out of the furnace should be sealed with a gasket. Unless you like breathing that crap.

      Furnace is in a ventilated 300sq. ft. Storage room with a carbon monoxide detector right outside the door, zero issues so far 🤷‍♂️
