    The general rule of thumb is a two tyre sizes (25 to 45) goes with a 2 inch lift. The easiest way to get some lift is rear heavy duty bump stops such as sumo spring brand, and coil helpers on the front,...asuming a VW has coils. Most vans do. These are just rubber or poly rings you place between the coil. Saves you getting serios work done.
    I spent $4000 getting heavy duty rear leafs and coil/struts on the front to get a 2-3 inch lift...allowing me to fit 4wd tyres.
    I was going to get BFG All Terrain ...but they were on back order...so I got Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs which are a chunky all terrain, and better in the wet.

    Hi Darren, we talked about these tyres as fitted to my Merc Sprinter at the Stratford upon Avon Overlander campervan Show recently, so impressed you went ahead and had yours fitted. They are the Dogs!!

      Yeah I am really happy with them.... although I lose about 8% fuel efficiency again toehold ones.

    You are really lucky with your 29 mpg...
    Mine only gets 21 mpg Most times.
    I have the 2.5l 160 horse engine.

      I notice a big drop if you drive faster than 65 mph . I can get over 30 if driving around 55 mph .. well at least according to the VW read out !!

    Hi mate. My tyres are tiny bit bigger so rub a bit more than yours. You should look at sumo springs for the front. Apparently it improves the ride no end. And it will stop that sag into the corners. 👍🏻👍🏻

      @@ScoobieDee just checked. They are the same actually. But I’ve since learned that the lwb is actually lower out of the factory. To keep centre of gravity lower. I’m lifting mine 2” and sumo springs.

    Hello, what ET your rims are is it 62 or 54 ? Do you think change that rims to et 54 will solve that problem ?

    Hi, i’ve just seen these tyres on ebay with alloys and they are only 225/75/16 not 245’s. Im reckoning they are not as wide by 2cm so would that be better to stop rubbing when turning for my van? Its the sprinter 2008. Its exactly the same body im thinking.

    Hi Darren, I have a Fiat Ducato so it is not exactly the same but have the same tyres but on alloys, but I have been able to run with much lower tyre pressures as they have a stronger side wall, it gives you a much softer ride so you don't rattle your teeth out over bumps but I just wonder whether this may also reduce the rubbing you will have to try it see, on the speedo difference I found that on the original tyres the speed was under but with the 16" it is actually spot on, maybe they were designed to have 16" P.S why did you decide not to have the white lettering outside ?

    • @ScoobieDee
      @ScoobieDee  3 роки тому

      hi Malcolm , Thanks for the info , what pressure do you have in your tires. I forgot to ask what pressure the guy put into mine at the depot, I guess 60 psi... they are smoother than the other tires though due to having more tire/ more air. I prefer not to have the white lettering showing as I like the matt black look. best Darren

    Can someone please educate me. If the tyre is bigger than standard (ie the tyre is turning LESS often to cover the same distance) then why would you "lose a mile or two per gallon"? If the wheels are turning less often, then you should be getting marginally BETTER miles per gallon surely.

    • @sillytorque
      @sillytorque 4 місяці тому +1

      takes more effort for the engine to turn the wheel, has a same effect as a bigger gear

    • @cambellevans9945
      @cambellevans9945 4 місяці тому

      I get that@@sillytorque but surely once you’re up to speed and cruising, then the bigger circumference tyres must be more efficient surely? 🤔

    • @sillytorque
      @sillytorque 4 місяці тому +1

      @@cambellevans9945 there would be an optimal speed that would be advantageous I’m sure but you would be mechanically disadvantaged outside of that sweet spot- if it happens to be your open road cruise speed and you live on the flat then that’s a win, outside of that the engine and drivetrain are working harder
