      This is false:
Bryan Konietzko conceived her as a Hollywood Golden Age actress in the Avatar World, with her hair inspired by Rita Hayworth.[21] Although having designed her before watching the anime series Fullmetal Alchemist, Bryan Konietzko stated he was fine with saying that Asami's design was influenced by Lust and is flattered by the fact that people would think so, as "Lust is such a killer design".[22] He did, however, say that he used Lust's lipstick color for Asami.[21]

Personal theory: the only person to say blood bending only works during a full moon was Hama, but she needed years to figure out blood bending while Katara was able to do it almost instantly.... I suspect Hama wasn't nearly as good a water bender as Katara, and Katara would have been able to blood bend without a full moon but never tried because she hated using it.

One of the things that makes this season so good, and likely due to it being written as if there weren't going to be more, is how it focuses on the rare or unique techniques being spread or passed down. Lighting, metal, blood... having a world at peace where people of different nations can gather means information on bending is more abundant than ever.

It’s a wonderful reflection of the real world martial arts they used as the basis for the different bending styles. Aang’s airbending was based almost exclusively on Baguazhang. But Tenzin’s uses a lot of aikido, which shares a lot of philosophical underpinnings with Baguazhang, but has much stronger forms.
And it works in character, Tenzin has so much more gravitas to him than Aang (at least when he was a kid), it makes sense that he’d use a heavier martial art.

OK, so my theory on the bloodbending thing: I think Katara saying "my bending is more powerful than yours" in the Hama episode was just weirdly worded, they just meant that Katara was a better waterbender. Sure Hama was much older and knew more of the fundamentals, but Katara was a natural talent that had been honed in war. Hama may have been older, but Katara had more experience

I don't think people realise just how awful losing your bending is. His entire ambition, goals, and very identity revolves around being a bender. It's like a dancer losing a leg, it would ruin your entire self-image, and everything you've worked for. For most who went through it, they probably think their life is over, because they'll never again be able to live out their dreams.

    • @hunnydarling

majority of those ppl u mentioned all have some sort of special feat that the average nonbender does not have tho(almost every semi-important nonbender we see through both series is like this. they're usually either a genius(sokka, varrick, sato, zhuli?, bataar jr) or some type of special fighter(ty lee, mai, suki, piandao) or js bumi(technically he's js rlly brave and wild but thats still something thats special to him specifically and hes also the son of the avatar).
thats the reason why theyre so pivotal in the first place. from a general standpoint, the average nonbender cannot do or achieve those things the people that you mentioned can or did. + the whole thing abt being able to do certain jobs or being able to get to certain ranks being reliant on having at least some type of bending which isnt necessarily the fault of benders but is still a relevant point. the show does have an issue with not actually addressing or rlly showing any of these things but if u think abt it for a bit there are a decent amount of oppression related issues that probably canonically exist to some degree.

And here are 2 of the biggest wham episodes in S1, especially 8. Some might be hard on Asami & Mako in 7 for not believing Korra but look at it from their perspective: Hiroshi was the one who offered to sponsor the Fire Ferrets for the tournament, and without him they never would've been able to compete due to the short time frame they had to get the money needed. It also pretty much saved Mako & Bolin from having to live on the streets again. Not only that but he's been supportive & encouraging of them up to this point, so why would he suspect him to be working with Amon? As for Asami her dad's been her biggest support since her mom died, & he's managed to run a successful business while caring for her at the same time. Plus he agreed with her idea to support her favorite team in their time of need, so why would she suspect her own dad of all people of harboring anti-bender feelings or even being in league with & helping the Equalists?
As for 8 this is the first time bloodbending has been seen since The Southern Raiders and the first time it's been done without a full moon. It's telling that he had to resort to that only when Korra had him on the ropes. That aside they are both alike in a way, using their abilities as benders and people of influence to try to get their way.
    Fun facts:
*The petroglyph in Tarrlok's office depicts Tui and La (moon and ocean spirits).
*Korra's reason for not rejoining the task force is the same one Colonel Shinu used for denying Zhao the Yuyan Archers in his hunt for Aang (nothing but a vanity project).
*The Tarrlok-Korra duel at City Hall is similar to the Roku-Sozin duel (the Avatar calling out a politician for their actions against people they had power over, with the politician making the first move).
*E7 is the only time in Korra (besides E1) that a recap is not done by Shiro Shinobi.
*Coincidentally both Zuko and Asami's decisions to join Team Avatar involve lightning in some way (lightning redirection and electrified glove respectively).
*Bolin's "Earthbending Bomb!" line when he jumps into the pool is similar to Katara's "Waterbending Bomb!" line in The Serpent's Pass.
*The push daggers that come out of Lin's arms are similar to the katar, an Indian weapon.

There's a theory about Asami that I really want to say, but I don't want it to possibly spoil anything. It's just a neat theory I've stumbled across.
That said, there are reasons for the series to get the hate it got, but they mostly pop up later on.
I'm pretty sure they're either done with book one or almost, but just in case no one's mentioned it... the series only had the green light for one season and it wasn't until either after it was over or near the end when they got the green light to make a season 2, so things get to the point of feeling really rushed by the end.
Then it happens again in season 2 where they planned everything around just that season, then again near the end of season 2 production, they get the green light for the next two seasons.
This timing issue is one of the things people tend to hate on when criticizing the series.
Though, I REALLY like the whole thing.

Most of the complaints about Korra are because of how much Nick screwed over the studio. They didnt know there would be multiple seasons until the 3rd so theres no overarching plot. They also cut funding yet demanded the same amount of episodes in the last season.
The series is amazing, but because it was hamstrung so much it suffered from it.

In my head cannon, the Agni Kai Triad are "Fire Nation Supremacists" who believe that Fire Lord Ozai was right and fire nation should be ruling all. Because of that belief, they stick to strict Fire Nation norms and culture, including practicing practicing agni kais.

Would make sense that people with that mentality would be present in Republic City, given the entire United Republic consists of the former Fire Nation colonies.

I want to clarify something to the squad you can blood bend without the moon, since the first blood bender (forgot her and don't feel like looking for it) would practice with rats daily. But she needed the full moon to strengthen her bending so she can blood bend a person who is way stronger than a rat. So any water bender can blood bend without the full moon as long as they're strong enough

lol it's funny seeing them say "we're still in book 1" over and over as if they think this story will just continue to escalate in crazy ways, but the reason it's all gas no breaks right now is because book 1 was all they had to tell this story, so they gotta hurry and wrap everything up in the next couple episodes lol.

Speaking as someone who didn't get to binge watch the show and had to watch it week to week, especially in later seasons there was a frustration with certain character arcs and with time between episodes to think about it, that didn't help.
But a) I think the hatred is way overdone, even the poor episodes/seasons are miles ahead of half the shows nowadays, they're just not as consistently good as the original Avatar and b) I blame Nickelodeon for that. They jerked these poor creators around so much it's amazing the show didn't have more problems.
    Here's the sequence of events:
In spite of Avatar the Last Airbender's popularity, the creators had to fight to get the show started because Nickelodeon didn't think boys would watch a show starring a girl (hence why Korra is so badass, it was the compromise they made)
Nickelodeon begrudgingly approves them for a mini season, that being season 1, so the creators operate under the assumption that this was all they were going to get. Season 1 in turn has a consistent story progression and pacing because it was building to something and they had to get there quickly
Nickelodeon then suddenly approves them for a second season, meaning the creators had to scramble to come up with the story and get it out even though they'd already wrapped up the story they intended to tell, which in turn resulted in some sloppy storytelling but awesome plot developments in season 2.
Nickelodeon then approves them for two more seasons, but season 2 was left a bit open so that it could build on itself, so the creators now can plan for the show.
Season 3 begins airing and some of the episodes get leaked. So Nickelodeon decides to start releasing the episodes faster than intended, two at a time each week.
Halfway through the season, it's all of a sudden announced that the show would no longer be airing, but would only be accessible online. This was so sudden and so confusing that the creators themselves had to go on social media to reassure fans the show wasn't cancelled.
We get to season 4 and Nickelodeon has now ordered the episodes to be shortened by two minutes each. So they're now 22 minutes instead of 24, which if you think about it is about 10% of the time they have to tell a story in an episode
Then Nickelodeon slashes their budget out of nowhere of an amount that equaled one episode. So the creators had to decide between doing the episode for the villain's backstory that they intended or making sure their team got paid. They settled on doing a clip show, which again, they took to social media to apologize and explain why they had to do that. And they seemed quite upset and bitter when they did
That's a progression of lack of faith and inherent disrespect for people creating content for you that I am dumbfounded by as from a business stand point I can't see how you'd think that a show would succeed under those changing conditions.
Back to the point though, comparing Avatar the Last Airbender and Legend of Korra is apples to oranges, because even though they're the same universe and creators the show set up, tone, and focus are completely different. But if I had to, i explain it using statistics particularly mean and range. Mean in this case being the overall quality of the show and range being the difference between the worst moments and the best moments. To sum up, both shows have the same mean, but Legend of Korra has a greater range. Avatar the Last Airbender was incredibly consistent in it's quality, but never reached the same highs or lows that Korra did.

I have rewatched ATLA like ten full times since like 2010, when I was 6 (the last three times is like this year alone, lol)... But I have never finished Korra for some reason. I tried it around three times across the years, when I was of different ages, but I just couldn't find enough strength to watch it past the fifth episode.
Which is both a shame, since I wish that I could have seen episode 8 all these years ago; and a blessing, since I had the chance to experience all these emotions from both the story and the world of avatar

Hate to burst people's bubble, but Asami is NOT based on Lust from FMA. The creators hadn't even seen FMA until after it was pointed out.
