After thinking about it, I blame John Walker for being a corrupt, if he had been a GOOD Cap America, everything would have turned out fine reguardless!
Steve disobeyed orders, went behind enemy lines and saved a group of soldiers, praised as a hero. Isaiah disobeyed orders, went behind enemy lines and saved a group of soldiers, got thrown in jail. I don't blame Isiah for feeling the way he feels. I remember some of the things my grandfather told me living in alabama in the 30s 40s & 50s.
Not only that, but Walker blatantly murders an innocent man in broad daylight on Instagram Live and he walks out of the courtroom with his freedom.

@@Caseytify Pararescue is no joke either. It's lesser known or recognized than the Navy SEALs or Army Delta Force, but Pararescue is just as, if not more physically intense. Even if Sam's wings are fictional, this presents Sam as absolutely qualified.

When Walker says "I am Captain America" in the disciplinary hearing I kind of see his point. They trained him, gave him the highest awards, picked him for the job, gave him the shield, pointed him at the enemy. They're trying to wash their hands of him, but they made him. Walker is what you get when the modern US government tries to make Captain America.

the boat storyline might not be some people's favorite element of the series, but it's important because it symbolizes sam and his family's history. it also contrasts isiah's erased history, as well as many people in the black community :(
Of course the boat part of the show is boring to a non black person like her , it's just like how non black people don't care when unarmed black people get executed by cops because if it's not important to them then they don't care .
Exactly, and it also shows an alternative to Carli's version of people banding together to help each other out: Sam's community bands together to help Sam and Sarah after the bank turns them down, nobody had to blow things up. I kind of love the boat storyline.

It's also a metaphor for Sam and Bucky's friendship. They weren't just fixing the boat they were fixing their friendship..
The boat is a mirror for the shield. These are both set up in the pilot as how Sam feels about legacy. This sequence to me is utterly gorgeous and informs how Sam may feel when he takes up the shield.
To me pulling in the community to repair his legacy is an incredibly vital act. He reaches out to them not as Falcon but as his parents' youngest. Bringing the community together to me completely reflects the way Sam holds the shield.
For me the boat plot is the good side of America. People coming together to help each other. Its the side that sadly in the past few decades that doesnt get recognized as much. Also a side of America that too many Americans are forgetting.
The biggest shame about this series is that Wyatt got death threats for his portrayal of John Walker. His performance was outstanding and he didn't deserve such hatred
I'm glad they remembered that Sam was someone who worked with soldiers who had PTSD after they served, and was able to help Bucky find a better way to ease his conscience than a generic VA psychiatrist.
Sam should be one of the top orators in the MCU, and can give great speeches like Steve has done.
Sam absolutely has a military background, he also provided therapy for Soldiers with PTSD. It’s all in Winter Soldier 🤔
The Isaiah Bradley and Sam scene in this episode was heart-wrenching 😞

when they mention that they will take Zemo to "the raft" they refer to the prison that appeared in "civil war", in which they locked Sam, Wanda, Clint and Scott. But they also lock up super-villains, which could say that Zemo is finally going to train the Thunderbolts.
I think that when Sam told Joaquín Torres to keep the wings, it was an allusion that Torres became Falcon when Sam became Captain America (in the comics)
John is not ungrateful. It was unfair that his retirement benefit was removed. He made only one mistake. Serving a sentence and removing in military will do. He was basically cancelled. Which was unfair. This is coming from a guy that is irritated with people defending John the guy.
John is basically how US gov. Treat their veterans and have lack of mental health counselling while having PTSD.

Loved Walker in this series man they really wrote him so well and wyatt knocked it out of the park, that scene when he’s facing the council was incredible.

Walker so far has been the most interesting character for me, with Sam and Bucky
Frankly I found Zemo more interesting than Walker. They spent a lot of time fleshing him out compared to what we saw in Civil War.
Walker gets a lot of unnecessary hate in this show 😂. I don’t agree with the decisions he makes sometimes but I think he’s a pretty complicated and interesting character.
I’m excited for The US agent part of his character to come to light.
Bucky is a super soldier too - he got serum from Hydra. Sam is an Air Force Veteran, the wings were originally military hardware until Stark made him a new set. Then Walker goes full-on Kavanaugh during the hearing and meets the Contessa who was a long term SHIELD agent who became Madam Hydra.
Bucky is also juiced up with the serum.
Looked up Tuskegee Experiment and Isaiah's scene hit me even harder...
it sad zemo really wanted to die. Cuz all he is at the end of the day is a father morning his family. I could see a lot of the people doing what he did.

This episode was amazing to me the speech between Isaiah and Sam and then Sam and Bucky were just masterpieces!
Anthony Mackie’s acting is fantastic. I can’t express my excitements or the finale. Also, Bucky likes Sarah because that was Steve’s moms name.

the scene of Walker creating his own shield, is a reference to the fact that in the comics he has a shield equal to that of Captain America but instead of the star he has written "U.S" for his name "U.S Agent"

3) The boat is huge for character, community, and showing Sam having a life, which most of the MCU heroes lack.

That scene with Isaiah is a huge metaphor for the real life Tuskegee Experiments that took place from 1930-1970 where the government experimented with placebos on African Americans to see what would happen which resulted in the death of many
It wasn't placebos they put syphilis in their bodies and didn't treat it as a way to see the side effects of it without treatment

We don’t know if they’ll use that name in the MCU yet. They’re sure not setting him up to work with the government so far.

I do have a level of sympathy for John Walker, he served his country with honor and was forced to do shit he never wanted to do. And they took his benefits away because he took revenge for his friend. But I guess I’m the only one who remotely sympathizes.

Bucky has the Serum too. But Walker is a pinnacle warrior, a "perfect soldier". Bucky was trained primarily as an assassin. Very different combat techniques. In a straight up hand to hand fight, Walker has the upper hand, hence it took both of them to bring him down.
John Walker is not an psycho..he is just need help what to do in critical situations & he lost his best friend also..he is totally depressed & in depression he take the serum also..I like John Walker bcz he wants the sheild only bcz he get the sheild his struggle etc..

One quick note, Sam was a soldier. Him being a vet was one of the things that helped him relate to Steve when they met, talking about the way it’s weird to sleep on a soft mattress now. The fact that he’s not an active member though is a good thing.

@Shawn Kuhn I´m pretty sure they are setting up Thunderbolts or Dark Avengers. I would prefer the second, since I think Thunderbolts doesn´t make much sense without the twist of the first issue.
Bucky was avoiding the texts from Sam at the start of the series when he was seeing the psychiatrist. Bucky forgot that Sam was a war counselor. All Bucky had to do was talk to Sam in the first place to help with his Winter Soldier nightmares.
This was definitely my one of my favourite episodes. I’m here for the training montage. I’m here for a building the boat montage and I’m here for positive male bonding lol. Also Bucky flirting ... my first thought: woot he’s healing ❤️❤️
It is NOT Sam's fault! It is the government's and Walker's. Just so happened that the shield did not remain retired as Sam intended it to.

John is not ungrateful. Please don’t be one of those people who agrees with hypocritical politicians and refuses to see his side too. When he was a soldier in Afghanistan he was honored as a hero by his country for killing what were declared to be terrorists. As Captain America he kills an actual terrorist and suddenly that’s no longer in America’s interest? The country that goes to war over oil and justifies it with some bullshit about war on terror? I think not. What John needed was therapy to treat his PTSD, not to be thrown aside like a dog when he was no longer useful to the state.
Most people will never have to know what it's like to have to describe to a grieving family how their son died. You can choose to give them the 100% truth and scar them for life and give them images in their head that they'll never be able to forget or you can do what little you can to give them some measure of peace.

"The Boat Story Line is Super Boring", I beg to differ.
Its super relevant to this story. The boat is part of Sam's Legacy and they are arguing about if you should sell it and throw the legacy away or work at fixing what is wrong and embrace the legacy. Now cut back to the Shield and what it represents, its legacy.
There's a lot of juxtaposition in this series. Just this episode you have Sam telling Bucky he needs to give closure to the families he's hurt make them feel better not just himself. At the same time you have Walker lying to Lamarr's family just to make himself feel better rather than telling them the truth.
As a Marine Corps combat vet with PTSD I identify with and feel a lot for John Walker. I don't think he was the right choice to be Captain America but otherwise I think he's getting a raw deal. He's a soldier tasked with taking down a terrorist organization. He killed a terrorist after he was involved in the death of his best friend. The only reason he was punished like that is because it was too public and the US representatives wanted to save face. He's a decorated war hero with trauma issues. It actually hits me kind of deep that people hate him so much and are so delighted by the way he's being abandoned by the people who turned him into what he is like so many of us in real life. I've personally had several it's my closest friends that I served with kill themselves in just the last few years because of the mental health problems and stigmas that come from combat. That being said he definitely does need to get that serum out because it seems to just be heightening it all.
Amazing episode. John Walker vs. Bucky and Sam was dope. The Isaiah Bradley scene was heartbreaking. The first post-credit scene was awesome. What's in the box? I'm guessing it's vibranium wings, a new red wing, and a new costume. I also loved Bucky and Sam's heartfelt talk while throwing the shield back forth. Great to see Batroc the Leaper and Torres again. Next episode, I see John Walker getting the U.S. Agent moniker. Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in the MCU holy marvel.
Nothing like a good ol fixing the boat montage to make you feel great
If you live/grew up in a community where commercial fishing is a big thing the boat story is more appreciated. As someone who did I very much enjoyed it. I also liked scrutinizing the details and liked how they actually showed him with a repair manual for that engine and that it was actually a manual for an engine (Detroit Diesel 71 series) that you might actually find on a boat like that.

•He is technically Captain America, but he's not Steve Rogers nor could there ever be another Steve Rogers.
•People join the military to serve and defend their country; rank and pension's just a bonus.
•So John Walker has been discharged from the military, but neither was it exacting a dishonorable discharge nor is he being sent to a military prison.
•She's his wife.
•The Contessa is not a journalist.
•Isaiah Bradley and no, Isaiah doesn't want anything to do with the shield of Captain America or as he calls it "the White Man's Shield."
•And to this day, there are still people in the African American community who distrust the medical community because of these inhumane tests.
•It's a reference to the Oedipus Complex. Also, that's more of a joke towards Alabamans.
•In the South, there is also a well standing tradition of the father cleaning his shotgun while his baby girl goes on a date. There's an entire country song dedicated to it.
•At this point in the series, with only one episode left, a number of people have come to believe that Sharon Carter is the Powerbroker.
Most likely new wings in that case but a better reveal would be a Capt. America suit for Sam
When John Walker was ranting during the hearing, I half-expected him to start screaming "I like beer!"
Bucky not only is a supersoldier in his own right, with heightened speed and strength, but he also has far more training and experience. He could easily put Walker in the dirt if he absolutely had to.
An episode full of montagues is the fastest way to set up the finale. 'ding'

Carl Lumbly better when awards for being Isaiah, every line hits harder with his presence. Even still, don't know who had it rough, Comic Isaiah or MCU Isaiah, because Comic Isaiah dealt with WWII and his mind degraded in old age, but here, he was imprisoned longer, completely erased, yet still has his senses. Such a tragic, yet truthful story.
Marry Val in the comic books goes by Madame hydro she's part of the russian Leviathan shield and Hydra , she had relationships with Steve Rogers and Nick fury and she was supposed to be introduced in black widow which was supposed to come out before this show

I dont know how you haven’t noticed that in the MCU Bucky is a super soldier like cap. In the series zemo talks about it and John keeps pointing it out. You watched all the movies so I feel like you should know it by know. Even in the second episode with Bucky running next to a trailer and jumping out of the plane without a parachute. Still like your reactions tho.✌🏻

My favorite character is John Walker who else thinks hes the best
Bucky is more than just a guy with a vibranium arm. He's a super soldier juiced up with a serum but the arnim zola version.
Bucky also has a variant of the serum that he was given by Hydra to make him the Winter Soldier. He wouldn't have been on the equal footing he was with Steve during those days without that serum. It's not just good fighting skills and a metal arm.
And I feel John's eruption at those bureaucrats was justified. I'm not completely on his side, but THEY created the circumstances of the incident by choosing someone with PTSD to be Captain America and then they cut him loose and took everything from him not out of any good intention or justice. It was so they could duck their own responsibility and scapegoat John. Unfortunately, many real-life Veterans are chewed up and spit out in the same way.
Might just be my empathy talking, but I think the punishment went too far and was just PR. He's a victim of their desperation to save face. It's screwed up that he dedicated everything to his country only for it to turn on him after ensuring that what happened, happened....but then again, that's a theme of this show. Isaiah, Sharon, John, Karli and her group on a more global scale... hopefully Sam can be the one to overcome it.
I can already tell you don't agree, but I still see no outright villains here...except for Batroc and maybe the Power Broker. Everyone else has been screwed over in an f'd up way.
Another film to watch is “Red Tails”, to understand Isaiah’s reference, and know their contribution to the US participation in WWII.
Dont you know that Bucky is also a super soldier? How on earth could he fight Steve 1 on 1 in Winter Soldier and Civil War without the serum.
I love that the flag smashers have a valid reason to be angry. People set down roots and created their own communities for 5 years. After the blip reverse, I could imagine the say ayeholes decided nah lets go back to the way things were, although these folks probably made the world better. Imagine a world with way less of all the people who make it suck being gone and the others bonding over that and creating a new one.
Steve never stop believing in Bucky that he could change and Bucky never stop believing in Sam that he could be Captain America. Bucky did for Sam what Steve did for him.
2 things...
One: what the kids said, "Uncle Sam", again UNCLE...SAM...the guy was always meant to be Steve's successor as Captain America! Only Bucky could possibly be an alternative. His turn may come later.

First off why does have to be a white woman that declare them dead , 2nd the nurses talking about is based on a real nurse during the Tuskegee experiments who took care of the soldiers who were injected with syphilis she's the one on their behalf who told the story about what's going on and her name was Mrs evers and there's a movie called Mrs Evers boys about her and what happened
Isaiah's story is allegorical: it happened in reality and it'sa period of human rights violation caled The Tuskeegee experiments. Black men were given placebos that killed them and the CDC/government at the time told them it was vaccines against syphilis, tetanus, etc.
Also he talks about the 332's, they were the Tuskeegee airmen, the first airborne regiment of African-American pilots. White soldiers were welcomed hom with open arms after WWII. The Tuskeegee airmen were not.
Yet another sad story of systemic racism existing in America, and a ton of people believe it never happened, or they jsut sweep it under the rug like it didn't.
Much as I distrust the government for a lot of reasons -much in the way Steve Rogers himself came to distrust and disagree with them, and rightly so - I still believe in the American ideals like Steve did.
And those are the same ideals that BUcky and Steve fought for, that Sam fought for as a pararesuce trooper, the values he fought for as Falcon.
And that's why Sam is the perfect person to carry the shield and the legacy.

John Walker was wrong in killing that guy, but he wasn't out of line. He was the perfect Soldier and did everything the government ever asked of him, spent a career following orders, only to be thrown away for bad PR, after losing his best friend and partner. He has a right to be pissed.
I may not like John or feel sorry of him, but he did have a point. The government did build him into what he is and now they're just throwing John to the wolves and get nothing in return just like what they did with Isaiah.

Hey, Mary! Here's my take on Episode 5:
Brutal three-way throwdown between heartsick WALKER, wrathful BUCKY and mediating SAM ends with Walker's arm snapped, Bucky's arm shorted and Sam's wings ripped clean off! I felt for Walker when he said "We could have been a team!". Marvel's done a great job rendering him as a TRAGIC character.
Sam's got the shield now and TORRES has the wings! Joaquin will be FALCON 2.0.
WALKER gets a raw deal from an unsympathetic government tribunal that strips him of his rank and pension!
COUNTESS VALENTINA ALLEGRA DE FONTAINE played by JULIA LOUIS-DREYFUS gives Walker a mysterious calling card!
In the comics, Valentina is part of Fury's inner circle and his lover. She's got a sexy white skunk-stripe in her hair but Julia opted for purple. She's also a QUADRUPLE-AGENT working for and against both Hydra and SHIELD for LEVIATHAN, a Russian organization. In Marvel's secondary ULTIMATE Universe, she works for the KRATOS GROUP, a shadowy cabal that steers geopolitics. Despite her multiple allegiances and covers, her strongest loyalty is to FURY.
FLAGSMASHER escalation results in refugee center shutdowns which makes KARLI angrier without owning her responsibility!
ZEMO visits the SOKOVIA MEMORIAL.
BUCKY proves he's no longer an assassin but ZEMO doesn't flinch in the face of death!
AYO and the DORA MILAJE remand Zemo to THE RAFT and agree to do a favor for Bucky.
In the comics, Zemo eventually forms both the MASTERS OF EVIL and the THUNDERBOLTS. He's one of the Avengers' deadliest antagonists.
ISAIAH BRADLEY scene is a tough one and CARL LUMBLY kills it! He was punished for exactly what STEVE was rewarded for!
The RED TAILS or TUSKEGEE AIRMEN were a black unit of fighter pilots who racked up impressive stats but returned from the service to a segregated America and the predations of the cross-burning KU KLUX KLAN. BRADLEY baldly states America doesn't want a black Cap and no black man would ever want to be one! MARVEL ain't pullin' punches! Little does Isaiah know that his grandson ELI will be PATRIOT of the YOUNG AVENGERS!
BUCKY brings a WAKANDAN gift to SAM and flirts with SARAH while they fix the Wilson's unsellable boat.
WALKER lies to BATTLESTAR's family to give them closure which just makes him feel guiltier.
SHARON freed BATROC from prison to hire him for a new gig with the FLAGSMASHERS! Wait. Whaaaat? POWERBROKER vibes, anyone? Cross your fingers it's deep cover...
BUCKY acknowledges not fully grasping the complexity of bequeathing the shield to a black man.
SAM tells Bucky not to make amends but to bring CLOSURE to his victims by doing them a service.
SARAH changes her mind about selling the boat.
Sam decides to take up the mantle and we have a TRAINING MONTAGE. Cue the Rocky theme!
BATROC meets with KARLI in Bryant Park with a weapons cache.
She pings her flash mob and 75% of the parkgoers activate and follow her out to the big New York GRC summit.
TORRES informs Sam that a Flagsmasher signal like those in Europe was detected in New York and he opens his Wakandan gift package. What's in it? I'd hazard a guess it's a red, white and blue, star-spangled Falcon outfit with a new Redwing and some Wakandan goodies.
END-CREDIT SCENE:
WALKER welds his own shield together incorporating his Congressional Medals of Honor onto its surface and painting it like the original. USAGENT, here we come!
