Rose Gale yes! I’ve watched a few UA-cam families who said my kids are NOT going to be homeschooled they are going back. These are high school kids and I feel like they should be able to have a say in it as well. I guess whatever is best for each family.
i agree. of course the parents still need to be guiding their choices because they're still minors but at ages 16 and 17/almost 18 they should be making at least some of their own decisions.
Unfortunately where I live college kids aren’t even doing their part. I think kids should have a say but the parent should have the final say. A lot of people just don’t get the seriousness of what is happening and that doing the right things now means life will be back to normal sooner rather then later.

I’m paying the same amount of tuition yet all my classes are online; furthermore, I’m paying for room and board in my sorority when all of my classes are online. Additionally, the material I’m learning is going to be crucial for my career. Yet, I consider online to be less effective than in-person in regard to the instruction of the curriculum which could greatly impact my performance within my career.
Yep! I think because we’re not physically in class tuition should be less and you shouldn’t be paying room and board if you’re not there! We’re getting charged for on campus amenities and we’re not there 😒
I totally agree with you guys! I am going back for two days a week and the rest virtual. We get to go to all of our classes and switch teachers. We are aloud to interact with our friends as long as we wear a mask and social distancing.
Because my siblings and I have severe asthma and my school isn’t requiring masks, we chose to do online school. Both of my younger siblings are in elementary school and we all started a week and a half ago. So far for my younger siblings, they do a zoom call for the whole school day and their teacher walks them through assignments. It hasn’t been too bad but I guess we will see how it continues to go as the school year progresses. It’s all definitely a new experience!
I think school IS about socializing. Kids learn by being around other people their age and get the best life experiences that way. It’s important for everyone to be able to socialize. No that’s not the main reason to go to school but it is a huge part of it. If you’re gonna be fine doing the school work at home and don’t need the extra help, you might as well stay home. A huge part of high school is the social part of it. Sporting events, homecomings, proms, and all that would be canceled i assume. I work at a summer camp and it’s hard trying to keep kids socially distant, mask on and keep from sharing things all day. I like that they’re giving people an option though because my district is completely virtual for the first semester which sucks for the special needs kids and kids with IEPS that can’t focus online
Loved your discussion on your school situation. Of course school isn't solely about socializing, but there are many aspects of in-person learning that require you to interact with others in a way that wouldn't be possible given the social distancing guidelines. There can't be any group work or collaboration. No teamwork. You probably can't sit next to people at lunch and there is probably no recess or free periods. I think online school is the smartest, safest, and most stable position until we have a clearer picture of the virus and its severity.
I'm not in high school anymore, luckily I graduated in 2019 but I still follow my school on Facebook and I have some old teachers on my Facebook as well, what they're doing is online through November, then as of right now they will be going back, so they don't have a choice and I'm sure that your school will be doing the same or something similar because I live in Michigan as well.
I have a lot of teacher friends from preschool on up and none of them want to go back. They’re too scared to. A lot of people are forgetting that this is a pandemic and this virus is killing people; healthy people too as well as young people. It’s not just any ole time deciding brick and mortar school or home school. It’s, is the risk of death worth it. It’s important to socialize at every age but now is just not the time. And it’s an import lesson to kids to be responsible and be selfless. And not everything in life is going to go as they planned! Happy to hear both kids making the smart choice!
My school is doing online for the first quarter and then they will re-evaluate or you could do a virtual academy (online through the whole year no matter what) and they have a better plan our school is going to do a block schedule, three classes a day for two hours each ( ex. One day we will do 1st,2nd, and 3rd hour and the next day 4th, 5th, and 6th hour. Our whole day basically has a schedule even for elementary students, we are doing the same schedule as we would do in person just online. It is also cool that our district is providing all students with a device with all the apps we will need. Hopefully everything works out and we get used to online learning quickly.

My school gave us two options for school. You can do full online or half online and in person. If you choose the blended format they are breaking us up into different teams by last names. Team 1 goes to school Monday and Thursday and team 2 goes to school Tuesday and Friday. All of us are online for Wednesday. But they changed the hours from 8-12:25. No lunch. But we do get to walk in the halls and go to different teachers. We just can’t use lockers.

There really is no perfect decision, especially in these circumstances, and it’s important that people realize that. There are families who live by me who are arguing about some other families choices regarding sending their kids back to school, but the truth is, is that there is not one correct decision. The only right decision is the one that makes the most sense for you and your family and not necessarily what your judgmental neighbors/acquaintances think the right decision to be. WOW! Teachers are working so much harder now. We have to prepare lessons for both in person and remote learning. I teach preschool and have between 7-10 kids in person and 4 remote learners to teach. So for each lesson I need to record it, up load it, and prepare a separate lesson using manipulatives that our students will have at home (almost all my students are at or below poverty level). All of our work time next week will be learning and setting up google classroom. For those who teach special education all services and times must still be met. Our district is requiring masks for anyone in the school (3ysrs +).
I appreciate that you gave them a choice. If you feel like they’re gonna be safe with either option then why not let them pick what’s best for them. If they were struggling with online school I’m sure they wouldn’t have the option to stay home.
It’s easy to teach Goldens the “off” command....they are some of the smartest dogs and learn quickly with consistent training...everytime they get on a piece of furniture, you say “off” and gently remove them from the furniture. Only takes a few days of training and they will get it. It’s much easier if you treat a puppy who is going to be come a big dog, like they already are a big dog...don’t let them jump on people, don’t let them climb on furniture. Dogs are very smart, but they can’t train themselves
true, goldens are one of the most trainable dog breeds I've come across. they're energetic and goofy but they are very smart and if you spend enough time working with them you'll see they're very eager to learn.
Zaphod Stone and they quickly learn who is Alpha...he or she, or the owner. I had a golden and she was trained to stay off furniture and people like i described, but sometimes my young kids would allow her on the sofa....all I had to do was walk into the room, and if she was on the sofa, she would just look at me and get off. I never had to say a word. She was the best and when she passed at the age of 15 it was so hard. She was our family. Our other dog Scout (a rescue we got while Casey was still with us) really misses his buddy too. Most dogs can be trained very easily if you are consistent. They love to please people and love the routine of training. If people only realized, that dogs always get trained by us...they learn from everything we do with them...some things form good habits and some form bad habits.

I agree, it has been a real struggle to feel like everything is so "not normal". Try setting aside time each day to at least facetime, text, chat with friends and family. I think it's hard for kids/teens to feel locked up in their homes with very little interaction. Know you're not alone and reach out to others...we are all going through the same thing!!
I’m honestly the complete opposite, I’m really sorry for you, it’s definitely really hard being quarantined. I have so much anxiety from dance and school it’s been such a weight lifted off my shoulders, especially with dance. But yes school will be a challenge
I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Adapting is apart of life. There are going to be a lot of times in your life where things get disrupted in a big way. Learning to cope and adapt now is truly beneficial going into adulthood. Do you have a strong support system? If not, maybe your school could set you up with a counselor or therapist to help you learn tools to get through. Maybe they can help you figure out some new hobbies or things you’ll enjoy from home to help get you through.
I go back to school on September 8th too. In the beginning we had two options, we could do a hybrid option which would be two days in school (Monday and Tuesday or Thursday and Friday) and three days online OR do school completely online. Then our school board decided against going to school for safety and some other reasons. So now everyone is doing virtual school until they reassess in January/February.

I didn't go directly from high school to Army basic training. When I took the written test at the recruiting station I couldn't even remember how to do a simple equation. I still got a good score but not as high as it could have been. I still got my guaranteed military schooling.
I live in Canada, so here where I live the option for high school students are we have the opportunity to go to school every other day one class a day, then on the day we aren’t at school we are doing distance learning, but parents do have to option to keep us home and we do distance learning at home, but my parents did let be choose if I want to go back to school or just stay home and do distance learning, but I going back to school because, I had a hard time learning at home, it better for me to in school, because I learn better face to face, then online learning
I think also sending kids back to school is dependent on the family situations. Since Candi works from home as a youtuber she has very good oversight over her children so she will be able to make sure her kids are actually doing school online. She can also ensure her kids have proper structure because she's with them or near them the whole time. Whereas if both parents have to go into work now, they won't be able to supervise their kids at all or their school work and they might find it better for their child to be in school for the proper structure.

What I’ve noticed with a lot of youtubers that do go back to school when talking about this topic, everyone always just says “I wanna go back for the social aspect, I wanna see my friends, I’d rather be at school then at home” and not one person ever talks about “staying home so it’s much safer” the overall safety of just staying home and being social distanced from people.
I get it. I wouldn’t want the same teacher/students all day every day. That’s like work...drag! School is a big part of a social life as a young person.
A lot of parents in our local high school included their teens in the decision of going back to in person full time, part time or two different types of virtual school. I agree to include teens with the decision makes things so much smoother. Now your K- 5th I think the parents should be weighing all options for the kiddo as their level of understanding what is happening isn’t exactly up to making the decision wisely. So many are going back thinking things will be just like they were in the beginning of The year to find out all that social availability isn’t going to be there.
The school in my district is literally doing everything normal... the kids still have to go 5days a week, regular hours but they have to wear a mask, and they have to have lunch at their desk and no recess, they have to sit at their desk all day. I feel like that is going to be really hard, especially on the little kids.
My kids are in elementary school, I’m doing remote learning at home with them. It’s stressful but I didn’t think a child that is 5 & 6 shouldn’t have to wear a mask all day and they aren’t aloud to socialize with other kids and I think it’s important for them to be able to do that when they are at that age!
Your family is so sweet and kind and I think that your choice of school is the right one my school we are going 2 days a week depending on your last name so my brother and I are going on Tuesday and Thursday and every 4 Monday I do not know why it’s every 4th Monday my mom is on the school board and that’s what they chooses and we have a and b days a I am a and all of my friends are in b so I won’t be with any of my friends I wish my parents would let me do all online!! The college I am going to is doing in person classes only until November and then after that we’re going online, I wish they would of just done online since I’ll be in school for only 2-3 months but I guess they are trying to see if it will work with going to classes in person.
I feel like it’s only been me but I’ve actually enjoyed quarantine, just because I don’t have dance or school. I do miss my friends but I can see them once in a while which is great! Dance is a big reason why my mental health isn’t great and it’s been great not worrying about having to be perfect in class
I have two younger siblings, one with a speech problem, so it was a difficult choice for my mom as to if she finds them a safe way to go to school, or teach them from home. So this summer my mom has been making a space in their playroom where she can homeschool them herself, since we have high risk family members.
My semester is virtual :( I’m really worried for my mental health but I’m saving a lot of money by staying home home but I still feel like I’m missing out and that life is passing me by without me experiencing anything new we’ve been doing this whole social distance thing for like 5 months now and it’s probably gonna keep going for a year I’m basically losing a year of my life and I missed out on my end of senior year activities that I had so much planned for and now my first semester of college ugh there’s just no winning with this pandemic it’s really a lose lose situation

my mother is a grade 1 teacher, she is very happy to be back in the building. Last year worked well for her because the students knew how to read and everything, but starting with kids who don’t have those skills would be very difficult.
here in lincoln nebraska with lps, all the elementary kids are going full time and same with the middle schools at full capacity but for high school they’re doing a 3/2 schedule. they split us up by last name so a-k goes monday, tuesday and every other wednesday, and l-z goes thursday, friday, and the opposite wednesday’s. the days were not in person were on zoom. at my school they’ve done a good job making it work and we feel so comfortable being in the classroom and switching to different classes. we sanitize our hands when we walk into a classroom every time and after every class we bleach the tables and chairs for the next person to be there. we also can’t sit right next to someone which is nice for social distancing. we have 8 periods so on the odd periods 9 and 11 graders leave 2 minutes early, and on even periods 10 and 12 graders leave 2 minutes early to make the hallways even less crowded. i’m sorry this was so long just thought i should share.
Candi, just when we had planned to go back to brick & mortar school this year for HS Freshman (after four years of Homeschool)... If you go to school and don’t like the hybrid model they are doing then u can switch to full online and vise versa
Melaaa .X I hate online. The teachers don’t help at all. We had end of year tests and they were so hard! I’m not in at all on the first week it’s just year 7’s and 11’s :( after 2 weeks year 7-11 are going back in full time but we have different lunch hours and break
i am doing online and i am honestly worried about my mental health and everyone else’s. even at school, you can’t see the social interaction and that is not good for your mental health. online this year is very vigorous and harder. i am doing michigan virtual academy because that is what our district is choosing for online. because you guys live in michigan as well, that will probably be your virtual option too. i hope you guys are doing well and make the best descion that you can do!
My old highschool is doing in person. When they did it online it was structure and everyone got the attention because it was a small school. I feel big public school it’s hard to give everyone attention we’ll. That why some parents is homeschool.
So I live all the way in NV, we are doing this thing were we are going to do homeschool for 30 days then go back to something somewhat normal. But what about the elementary kids that have parents that go to work, do they expect the kids to know how to make themselves lunch and how to know when to get on school when they basically just want to play all day.

I’m honestly the complete opposite, I’m really sorry for you, it’s definitely really hard being quarantined. I have so much anxiety from dance and school it’s been such a weight lifted off my shoulders, especially with dance. But yes school will be a challenge
same, i struggle in school but it’s only because of my home life now im stuck here . 😔
I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Adapting is apart of life. There are going to be a lot of times in your life where things get disrupted in a big way. Learning to cope and adapt now is truly beneficial going into adulthood. Do you have a strong support system? If not, maybe your school could set you up with a counselor or therapist to help you learn tools to get through. Maybe they can help you figure out some new hobbies or things you’ll enjoy from home to help get you through.

We start August 17 online until till after Labor Day but if we want to we can do Remote Learning all year
I go back to school on September 8th too. In the beginning we had two options, we could do a hybrid option which would be two days in school (Monday and Tuesday or Thursday and Friday) and three days online OR do school completely online. Then our school board decided against going to school for safety and some other reasons. So now everyone is doing virtual school until they reassess in January/February.

I didn't go directly from high school to Army basic training. When I took the written test at the recruiting station I couldn't even remember how to do a simple equation. I still got a good score but not as high as it could have been. I still got my guaranteed military schooling.
I live in Canada, so here where I live the option for high school students are we have the opportunity to go to school every other day one class a day, then on the day we aren’t at school we are doing distance learning, but parents do have to option to keep us home and we do distance learning at home, but my parents did let be choose if I want to go back to school or just stay home and do distance learning, but I going back to school because, I had a hard time learning at home, it better for me to in school, because I learn better face to face, then online learning
My kids are in a small private school but we have the choice between in person, hybrid, or remote learning
Here where I live in canada schools are opening back up starting Sept 8 full time again I have 5 boys 4 which r in school aged
I think also sending kids back to school is dependent on the family situations. Since Candi works from home as a youtuber she has very good oversight over her children so she will be able to make sure her kids are actually doing school online. She can also ensure her kids have proper structure because she's with them or near them the whole time. Whereas if both parents have to go into work now, they won't be able to supervise their kids at all or their school work and they might find it better for their child to be in school for the proper structure.

What I’ve noticed with a lot of youtubers that do go back to school when talking about this topic, everyone always just says “I wanna go back for the social aspect, I wanna see my friends, I’d rather be at school then at home” and not one person ever talks about “staying home so it’s much safer” the overall safety of just staying home and being social distanced from people.

A lot of parents in our local high school included their teens in the decision of going back to in person full time, part time or two different types of virtual school. I agree to include teens with the decision makes things so much smoother. Now your K- 5th I think the parents should be weighing all options for the kiddo as their level of understanding what is happening isn’t exactly up to making the decision wisely. So many are going back thinking things will be just like they were in the beginning of The year to find out all that social availability isn’t going to be there.

The school in my district is literally doing everything normal... the kids still have to go 5days a week, regular hours but they have to wear a mask, and they have to have lunch at their desk and no recess, they have to sit at their desk all day. I feel like that is going to be really hard, especially on the little kids.
That’s awful! So many just not taking this seriously. Terrible to hear this with all of the schools getting shut back down after full openings.

My kids are in elementary school, I’m doing remote learning at home with them. It’s stressful but I didn’t think a child that is 5 & 6 shouldn’t have to wear a mask all day and they aren’t aloud to socialize with other kids and I think it’s important for them to be able to do that when they are at that age!
Your family is so sweet and kind and I think that your choice of school is the right one my school we are going 2 days a week depending on your last name so my brother and I are going on Tuesday and Thursday and every 4 Monday I do not know why it’s every 4th Monday my mom is on the school board and that’s what they chooses and we have a and b days a I am a and all of my friends are in b so I won’t be with any of my friends I wish my parents would let me do all online!! The college I am going to is doing in person classes only until November and then after that we’re going online, I wish they would of just done online since I’ll be in school for only 2-3 months but I guess they are trying to see if it will work with going to classes in person.
I feel like it’s only been me but I’ve actually enjoyed quarantine, just because I don’t have dance or school. I do miss my friends but I can see them once in a while which is great! Dance is a big reason why my mental health isn’t great and it’s been great not worrying about having to be perfect in class

I have two younger siblings, one with a speech problem, so it was a difficult choice for my mom as to if she finds them a safe way to go to school, or teach them from home. So this summer my mom has been making a space in their playroom where she can homeschool them herself, since we have high risk family members.

I did my whole associates degree online which was much better for me. I don’t need human contact in school to do my work.
My semester is virtual :( I’m really worried for my mental health but I’m saving a lot of money by staying home home but I still feel like I’m missing out and that life is passing me by without me experiencing anything new we’ve been doing this whole social distance thing for like 5 months now and it’s probably gonna keep going for a year I’m basically losing a year of my life and I missed out on my end of senior year activities that I had so much planned for and now my first semester of college ugh there’s just no winning with this pandemic it’s really a lose lose situation
my school gave two options we either can do full remote and we have to do that for the whole year or you can do remote for the first nine weeks and the go back if they decide it is safe but only 2 days a week so pretty much two of the same thing haha

my mother is a grade 1 teacher, she is very happy to be back in the building. Last year worked well for her because the students knew how to read and everything, but starting with kids who don’t have those skills would be very difficult.

here in lincoln nebraska with lps, all the elementary kids are going full time and same with the middle schools at full capacity but for high school they’re doing a 3/2 schedule. they split us up by last name so a-k goes monday, tuesday and every other wednesday, and l-z goes thursday, friday, and the opposite wednesday’s. the days were not in person were on zoom. at my school they’ve done a good job making it work and we feel so comfortable being in the classroom and switching to different classes. we sanitize our hands when we walk into a classroom every time and after every class we bleach the tables and chairs for the next person to be there. we also can’t sit right next to someone which is nice for social distancing. we have 8 periods so on the odd periods 9 and 11 graders leave 2 minutes early, and on even periods 10 and 12 graders leave 2 minutes early to make the hallways even less crowded. i’m sorry this was so long just thought i should share.

My highschool is doing 2 days a week then 3 days online and they split the kids by last name so a through m is monday Tuesday then Wednesday they clean the school then Thursday Friday is n through z and if u want u can do online only. If you go to school and don’t like the hybrid model they are doing then u can switch to full online and vise versa

Melaaa .X I hate online. The teachers don’t help at all. We had end of year tests and they were so hard! I’m not in at all on the first week it’s just year 7’s and 11’s :( after 2 weeks year 7-11 are going back in full time but we have different lunch hours and break

i am doing online and i am honestly worried about my mental health and everyone else’s. even at school, you can’t see the social interaction and that is not good for your mental health. online this year is very vigorous and harder. i am doing michigan virtual academy because that is what our district is choosing for online. because you guys live in michigan as well, that will probably be your virtual option too. i hope you guys are doing well and make the best descion that you can do!

My old highschool is doing in person. When they did it online it was structure and everyone got the attention because it was a small school. I feel big public school it’s hard to give everyone attention we’ll. That why some parents is homeschool.
So I live all the way in NV, we are doing this thing were we are going to do homeschool for 30 days then go back to something somewhat normal. But what about the elementary kids that have parents that go to work, do they expect the kids to know how to make themselves lunch and how to know when to get on school when they basically just want to play all day.

I’m from South Africa and I’ve been back at school since mid-June. We have to wear masks, social distance and use hand sanitizer as we enter a new classroom.
my school is giving the option to go to school 2 days out of the week then online for the rest or just do online. it doesn’t make sense to me to go 2 days and stay in the class all day and do the same thing you do from home, at school. just like Karli said. it’s much safer and easier to do work from home.
