His playing is remarkable. I think at 17 years of age, he is one of the biggest talents at this years competition. His playing is mature and his emotional IQ is quite developed. One small example is how he played the B section of the A Flat Major Waltz. While several other competitors rushed through it and missed it's poetry, he took his time to bring out it's lyrical beauty. I believe he will be a finalist and I also believe he will win one of the top prizes.
Thoroughly agree, technically brilliant, but brings that dreamlike ‘ lyrical beauty ‘ that is Chopin at the poignant moments. Bravo ! He is indeed a finalist as the last 12 have been announced.
Wow . Wow. What a mature and elegant player. Sovereign command on an almost Michelangeli level. And he’s 17!!! We will hear great, great things from this young man!
It wasn't a competition. It was his concert!! I'm going to listen to his performance on the album soon. I thought it could be possible .Maybe ..the winner.🏆
JJ's artistry and elegance in interpreting Fryderyk Chopin is unmatched! His young age vs. his musical maturity doesn't seem possible! Wonderful concert!
This young man has got IT. He plays the Fantasie for what it really is: a kind of one-movement sonata. I felt as though I were hearing the piece for the first time. Fabulous.
His performance was captivating from the first few notes. No need for gimmicks just wonderful honest selfless playing, a consummate musician with a flawless technique. The Shigeru Kawai sounds so beautiful in his hands. ❤️
Shigeru Kawai piano is a true piano sound for me. Bright, deep and definitely the best tuned. What a pleasure is listening to it under fingers of this excellent young pianist!
Forget about the technical mastery: how can a 17-year-old have the depth of experience and insight to play the Fm Fantasy like that? It was "extreme", but never forced, like telling an emphatic, heartfelt story. He's the opposite of a conservatory drone. Perhaps the winner, but certainly a finalist.
Bravo! Just about the most complete Andante spianato…Grande Polonaise in this competition - Better than Galiano. And on par with Rao and Liu. He was about to nailed the entire polonaise until a tiny glitch in the end. Very close to perfect though. Very close. Wonderful!
He is a very good interpreter of Chopin with beautiful sounds. Kawai Shigeru is now getting more famous and it seems like Kawai's piano is helpful for him to express what he feels., while many participants use Steinway.
that's a good point, the ones who play shigeru stand out immediately because the sound is so different. in any case, the action on shigerus are outstanding
This young man is phenomenal. His sensitive interpretation of the andante spianato and polonaise is the best I've ever heard. Flawless technique and he keeps strict tempo, which very few people manage these days and is so important in Chopin's music. A total joy to listen to. Thank you!
Even though he is so young, he is very mature, very musical and very talented. He is definitely a strong contender in this competition. What a beautiful sound and a natural and relaxed technique. No tension or harshness in his sound at all. I believe he will be a finalist for sure!
Great combination with Kawai, fascinating finger position while playing which almost reminds me of V. Horowitz. Definitely one of the best, perhaps winner of this year. Even if it doesn’t happen, at least ill be back here thousand times again.
What an experience, the sound he produces is simply remarkable, voicing and control are all evident, from the lightness and sparkle in the treble to the incredible depth in the bass; especially in your Fantasie, you feel every note and takes you on a roller coaster of emotions...The art of true story telling...keep it up J J 😌😌😌
I think he is definitely one of the top players in this competition. His fingering motion and wrist movement reminds me of Krystian Zimerman. His talent of making a music is so excellent that even Chopin himself would be happy with this elegant performance.
I see exactly what you mean, his hand movements are just like Zimmerman, the way he lifts/ moves his left hand, almost as an after thought, just the same:) I love his performance, he’s through to the last twelve !
@yourlove yeah I feel like they play the piece is very different style. I completely agree with your comment on how JJ played the piece. Hyuk was very delicate on singing his right hand melody and bringing it out to a nice direction. But JJ is super concise too in his touch and voicing, very planned but great!
New Fu Tsung. Fantastic He controles dynamic almost perfectly. There is no place for fake forte and piano. He is the one who is able to make this Kawai well-sounding
I really like his interpretation, very sensitive, beautiful rubato, his touch is light, excellent technic and personal touuch.I hope he will have the prize in Arthur Rubinstein competition, i follow him🔥🎵🎶🔥🙏💥
Great! Almost Excellent... almost, because a little bit too "jazzy" as for this competition. For the other one would be even better than perfect! Bravo anyway!!! :)
He makes the piano speak. The Andante Spianato and Grande Polonaise are absolutely superb.

True Artistry!! Excellent!
Well, he certainly learned how to move his arms like a seasoned virtuoso.
Excellent display of arm gesture.
Seriously, this dude is very impressive…

He has received everything from God to be a perfect Artist

After the second round started, my favorites changed. He is one of the best I think.
Wow . Wow. What a mature and elegant player. Sovereign command on an almost Michelangeli level. And he’s 17!!! We will hear great, great things from this young man!
He has kind of chopin soul, like it very much, fabulous.

Love the Kawai!
@@randyedward1 me too, it has a fuller, more earthy, honest sound, not too slick
Best of the best. This is THE WINNER!
So refreshing to hear the neglected Variations so masterfully played.
What a gorgeous sound. So elegant, well-balanced, well-paced, and beautifully phrased.
Cheering from Toronto, Canada! Gorgeous playing, JJ!
Shigeru Kawai piano is a true piano sound for me. Bright, deep and definitely the best tuned. What a pleasure is listening to it under fingers of this excellent young pianist!
I love this competitor. I love his clean lines and the passion he captures in the music. If I was a judge, I’d vote for him.

tbh the shigeru helps in that, listen to the timbre of the piano, so sonorous, warm and story-telling

Nature vs Nurture?
Bravo JJ! We are all very proud of you!
The most beautiful player in my opinion.
Profundity and mystery in his sublime realization of the Ppus 49!!!!
He is one of the strong contender in this competition. He has perfect technique and also dynamic expression. Sounds like record of virtuoso.

What an incredibly sovereign performance of the Opus 22

It is true
Yes especially his left hand but also the cadenza
Well done J J! Best wishes from Toronto
His Andante spianato e Polonaise was insane. Up there with the best of them. Congrats on moving on to the next round!
Finally. I have been waiting for this. I'm inlove with his fantasy performance.

Absolutely brilliant, full of energy sounds. Stunning!!!
Absolutely adored his performance during the livestream, I just had to come back here!
Great pianist, great piano ❤️🙏
Very nice performance! Original, entertaining & greatly executed! Bravissimo! 👏👏👏🌟🌟🌟❤️❤️❤️
For piano connoisseurs, too, hearing so many diverse excellent concert instruments
So incredible!!
Stunning!!!
Interesting phrasing in the Fantasy. Youthful exuberance on display.
Amazing performance 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

The video sound is pretty good, beyond my imagination
The polonaise was full of energy, bauvra passages generally well executed.
Wow! He is very good.
I can see him in the finals. 😁
Beautiful💙
he reminds me of yundi li.. also 17 years old when he won the competition
UA-cam translated it to: „Awesome performance with suction” and I have no idea what it means hahah 😳

He’s so cute.. looks like baby bear cub😚 And also has sound of virtuoso!
So talented. I wish he could compete again.
Bravo👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
GG JJ !
Masz chopinowską duszę ,gratuluję☺️😀
Bravo!!!
I didn't expect he is a teenager. If he shaved whiskers, he would look much younger. Anyhow I think he could go to the next round.

👏👏👏👏👏
Absolutnie Niesamowity !!!!!!!!
🥰
i think he played the chopin variations instead of the c minor etude op10no12?
True. Seems a mistake by Chopin Institute🤔
It's too serious competition for this kind of mistakes. There's everything OK with this performance.
Why is everybody playing Andante spianato and polonaise in E?
Because it is superb music, and the polonaise is great fun to play
Do they bring pianos that pianists use to practice?
I think they have practice rooms by the hall.
Falta-lhe o sentimento autenticamente polonês no entanto...
Isso é verdade! bem dito! :)
N'importe quoi !!!
Sounds like German musik
No good. Chopin would be mortified
“Up next on ‘opinions nobody asked for’…”
Hahaha!
I don't understand about classical music but one guy said Chopin is mortified and other said Chopin is resuscitated. Art is weird not like math.
