    This is a fantastic DT show. I had it in 2003, but had lost. Labrie voice started recovering in this show. I was amazed of how great his voice was there. Never seen him singing Solitary Shell so good like in that night

      That's the end of LaBrie's voice right here. Whenever he goes in the higher register, you can see where his 2007-2008 voice (and onwards) came from. This is the beginning of the end for him. These are the signs of vocal fatigue. But, yes, in 2002 - 2003 he was still tolerable, he isn't very nasal here.

    James sounds pretty good here. This is why I agree with those who say, James vocals downward spiral wasn't due to the vocal cord injury, but to overtouring as they were doing these kinds of concerts so regularly that james never had a moment to take a break. The vocal cords are the most fragile instrument.

      Also technically how he was singing even if it sounded good was not super healthy high did not help. I feel his injury definitely hurt his singing because he had the surgery and I think he was touring again 4 weeks afterwards. Which he was supposed to 6 months before I think he was meant to tour again. But your 100% right he really needed a break like Portnoy said (not just for him the band) but in 2018 I think the band took a year break

    I was at the Beacon the next night. I got out of work early and on a whim decided to go up to The Beacon to see if I could still catch the show. I went to the box office and asked for a ticket, the lady said that there were no more seats left but she could sell me a general admission ticket (which there was no GA space) and I could just hang out in the aisle. I still, to this day, have no idea why I was allowed to do this. I went to the middle section, sat on the steps and watched quite possibly the best DT show in all the years I've been going to their shows. After the Six Degrees... suite, I and I'm sure everybody else thought that they would play an encore or two and then goodnight, but no. After a brief intermission the back banner projected the image of Metallica's "MAster Of Puppets" album with DT's name written in MEtallica's font and they then proceeded to do the ENTIRE album. Blew my fucking mind.

      I was there! I was wearing a "Hell's Kitchen" t-shirt with a devil on it, really hoping they would play it. They did! After the show, MP said to me "Hey, we played that last night!" which must've felt like a day earlier after the 4 hour show they'd just played but I couldn't stop myself from saying "No, Mike, that was tonight!" He laughed. Good times!!!

  • @sepita10
    @sepita10 7 років тому +15

    So is it better Labrie's today "fully recovered" version than this? Imho no, here he is a lot more powerful and chesty than today. They now skip old songs because of James who runs out of air in a second when singing "high" notes (upper 4th octave notes). I think James' best years were around 2001 and 2003 and maybe the 2011 tour where he surprised me, of course i'm talking after he ruined his voice.

    • @sepita10
      @sepita10 7 років тому +5

      That's why I said "after he ruined his voice" meaning after the Cuba incident. Of course 2002 isn't even close to his clean effortless 5th octave notes back in 1992.

    • @yurifreitas6001
      @yurifreitas6001 6 років тому +6

      sepita10, sorry, I didn't read your comment properly. However, for me LaBrie's best year after the food poisoning incident was, surely, 1997. His voice on some shows seems to be almost as good as 1992 - see the 1997 presentations on Milan and Rio de Janeiro and you will understand what I am saying. 1995 , 1996 and 1998 were also good years (yes, 1995), but his voice was extremely unstable. I also like the Scenes from a Memory tour, whose peak was "Live Scenes from New York".

    Love how hard James is singing. Really highlights how the food poisoning wasn't really the cause of his decline but more so poor technique and overuse with constant touring
