- Steelers head into the offseason with a major question at the QB Position. Steelers will have many options out there, but the top two will be will the Steelers re-sign Russell Wilson or re-sign Justin Fields? Justin Fields showed promise and improved down his final stretch as the Steelers starting QB and is comfortable with the scheme. Will it be Fields or Russ? In our honest opinion, the Steelers should bring back the young, promising, and cheaper option and this is why Justin Fields Should be QB1 for Steelers in 2025! I was bummed when he got sat for Russ. It got tempered with the wins for a little until.... well until it didn't for 5 weeks in a row. Fields on that 4-2 stretch was improving and looking really good compared to days of old and I think given a chance he could definitely scratch his name in with other big names. Not saying super bowl contender but he was the fearless leader of OSU for a reason. Give Fields the reins!!!!
Fields gives the Steelers a possibility that they haven’t had in years. If Justin doesn’t do well allow that team to fail and draft your qb next season … if he’s good great you got your guy in house .. Win Win ~Cowboys fan
I’m signing Fields to a 3 year deal. But at the same time I’m drafting Jaylen Milroe. Enough of the yearly rentals. I’m loading up on the offense in the draft at WR early and in free agency and I’m getting them the weapons they need on offense and a running back to compliment Warren. Get a new offensive line coach and defense back coach to work with Porter. Restructure the highest paid defense. The team needs a DT that can disrupt the run like a Casey Hampton. Enough of the horrible run defense.

Meh, with Fields you get 17 point games and the defense has to get 7 of those.
Wilson isn’t worth the money he wants but neither is this defense.
I’d say go with Fields though so maybe this team can finally start getting high draft picks. He can’t pass and really there isn’t anyone to pass to anyway. Pickens needs to go too.
Wilson is fine. I don’t place any blame on Wilson. He is trying to be himself in an offense that has the philosophy of “just don’t turn the ball over” and designed for 3 and outs. He fell victim to the 17 point offense which is designed for a QB like Fields.
In his 6 games Fields averaged 20.66 points so by my math that’s more than 17

The defense has to score points and carry the offense at that rate.
Once you watch more football though, you’ll start to see that.

Fields had 10 total tds in six games that is horrific. It's bearly over one a game. He didn't average 20 points per game.

Which of the last 5 games the Steelers played where they favored to win in? Even the Bengals game at home we where underdogs. We would have lost no matter which quarterback played .against the eagles, chiefs, ravens. They scored how many points? Do you think Fields could hang 30 points plus on any of these teams. Me personally don’t care which quarterback they start this year, They both are ok but I don’t think either one is the answer , but we will see with our luck they will sign Rodgers 😂

I love how people want Fields when we couldnt run the ball. They either say he can scramble for a first, which means we are planning to fail and he is the back up plan, or they still think steelers ball is a running first offense which it isnt. Not with what we have.
He improves the run game by beong present. His effect is damn near proven at this point.

Neither of those QB's should be starting for the Steelers in 2025. They're not good enough.
Build around Fields. Give him no excuse to fail. If he fails/sucks, then hopefully we're in a position to draft a QB in 2026. If he succeeds and shows he's that guy, then that's amazing! Russell Wilson does nothing but stall this franchise for another year.
I think Arthur Smith isn't horrible. He just needs to get rid of the toss. Also, Fields would fit Smiths style a lot more.

I had my mind set on going with Fields a week after we lost the wild card. And if you're someone who's not convinced, and you just so happened to watch the Steelers last 5 games, do yourself a favor and take a look at Justin Fields's highlights from this season... then compare him to Russ. The answer is very simple and it's right in front of everyone's faces, and I'm even more convinced after I went back and watched his gameplay from the beginning of the season, he played consistently, he played smart, and he made throws all over the field. No issues scoring in the red zone. Pittsburgh can make the right decision, don't pay Russ all that money.. keep Fields spend the money on the missing pieces with a wide receiver and defense. I don't believe parting ways with Pickens right now is a smart move either.
Like you both said. Give Justin Fields a stronger support system. You do that by further addressing the O-Line, adding better quality receivers who possess 60-Minute awareness (yes that also includes situationally), & opening up the playbook more. If Tomlin prefers a Mobile QB, well then here you go right here...Justin Fields, whom himself said he wants to stay in Pittsburgh.

@@the-pokeman7534 4 out of the 6 games fields played in he threw for less than 200 yards, he threw for over 300 and lost, could not put up more than 20 points in each of his 6 games. meanwhile russ averaged over 200 yards passing, and threw for over 400 in a game. Russ also averages more yards than fields does running AND PASSING THE BALL. SO WHATS THE POINT OF HIS "RUSHING THREAT"

We have a garbage oline with no fix in site and Pat Meyer is obviously not the answer. QB does not matter.
If i were the Steelers i would also draft a QB in the early rounds to play under fields because now you need to good qb to compete
Fun fact: under Darrell Bevell & Brian Shottenheimer in Seattle, the offense that tailored to him was outside zone based, PA heavy, w/emphasis on rollouts, boots, & 5-7 step gun stuff with "hi/low/checkdown" layered reads - to ONE side of the field.
The fact Russ threw for a ton of yards & was considered elite in a terrible group of NFC QBs in the 2010s lead people to think Russ was some full field reading gunslinger - he wasn't.
He was a half field reading improvisor with one of the most talented arms the NFL has ever seen. He depended on athleticism to make up for his height & made a career of playing like Ben out of structure - but without the height/ability to function exclusively from the pocket like Ben could as well.

I want to believe Fields can be the future, but I'm not convinced. In 4 of his 6 games, he threw for under 160 yards 😬. But to be fair, it was a new offense, and they may have limited the playbook for him.
I think the team needs to be constructed differently which would mean a rebuild and a philosophical change. Can't put all your money on defense and have one good WR and expect to win in an offense-driven league.
At this point it makes sense money wise to sign Justin Fields

In all seriousness, Justin Fields? With all the talk of “You can’t win without a great QB.” Okay, well in 2025 Fields probably wouldn’t be a top 10 QB in the AFC. Did he progress in 2024? Did he? I realize that fans used the Bears as a scapegoat (same with Trubisky) but Caleb Williams had a FAR BETTER rookie season than Fields did. Trubisky’s best season in Chicago was far better than Fields’. If Fields is the very best option in Pittsburgh in 2025, we’re in big trouble. You wanna give Fields a full season? Okay, let’s see if Fields can play a full season for the first time in his career. If they can hire a competent person to run the OL it’s possible Fields can be a decent starter. Anyone who thinks he would’ve beaten the Ravens in the playoffs is dreaming. His best asset by far is his legs. He started 6 games, longest run was 18 yards. Whoopie.
i think fields was ranked like 21st or 22nd of all quarterbacks until Russ returned. its like Tomlin said. "at times fields looked good, but not to be confused with great". why not give Russ a second season. Get him some help at the line, and a second receiver, and see how it goes. we've seen what Russ can do when he's firing on all cylinders. 414 passing yards, i don't care that its the Bengals, no defense should allow that many passing yards.

@@sethnelson8698Because Russ is looking for his pay in the final chapter of his career. Once he gets paid, he sits comfortably. He isn’t going anywhere, no more Super Bowls for him. He can keep the team competitive. But whether he wins or loses won’t matter because he got that paycheck. He’s the best option to keep the Steelers in a playoff hunt.
Look at the opponents they have next season. NFC North and AFC East plus our own division. Russ can compete. Fields vs Allen? Burrow? Goff? We lose those games anyway but look at the list of opponents.

Good defenses got beat up by mobile qb, Chargers, Steelers, etc.
A mobile qb creates running game, opens wrs, gets first downs and uses clock n rest his defense.
Tomlin is not to blame, fans who see Russ light it up against teams Jacoby Brisett lit it up or Kenny Pickett last year, are not intelligent.
That's the first problem, fans need to be educated, seek continuity, longevity.

Russ win % .54 pts per game 23.3 and a lot of that average for Russ is because of 44 against Bengals

One person who is without question someone you can believe in when it comes to the Steelers organization is Omar "Khan Artist" Khan. He is a really good GM and I think he did the best he could last offseason with what was available outside of a 2nd receiver, but maybe he just couldn't get the right deal for that receiver while future proofing the team without hamstringing it. I trust Omar is going to get it right and go after some pieces aggressively this offseason.

I think this organization will do everyone a huge disservice if we don’t bring fields back for at least one year. I just don’t want the same thing that happened to mason to happen with fields. Russ had an okay run, but we should move on. No one expects much of anything from us next season anyway so why not give fields at least a year to prove himself. But nonetheless I truly think if building a system around fields is a part of the solution regarding to this offense a big piece will always be missing bc tomlin is not going anywhere. But we still have a chance to start the beginning to the solution.

If it was "talent evaluator" Omar Khan's plan to bring Justin Fields in to sit behind Russ for a year, why the hell would he decline Fields 5th year option thereby throwing away the chance to "sit Fields for a year behind Russ?"

Don't expect Justin "I'm kind of tired of learning a new offense every year" Fields to sign a one year contract for less money than the $25 mil Omar Khan declined. Justin Fields made it clear that he's seeking stability and if the Steelers offer him that stability in the form of a contract he'd "love to stay."
Other than that, teams like the Vikings who knows Justin Fields well from his terrorizing the NFC North even without an offensive line nor weapons.

I like Fields for the longevity he offers. He is going to need a running game and an O-Line and I think he'll do fine. He could also benefit from an improved Defense. Robert Salah is interesting.
