Incredible story. I am a boat refugee who left VN in 1981 at 14. I was picked up by an American submarine and ended up in a foster care system in America. Interestingly, I served in the US Navy, and we stopped by Vietnam for a humanitarian mission in 2012. I felt like I had to escape VN another time for religious persecution reasons, which somehow I got roped into. It was a scary time indeed.
Each Vietnamese other than Gen Zer that you ever come accross has a crazy back story to tell. And you will most likely find the common denominator in all those stories are 2 things: gut and resiliency.
Kieu Chinh's life is deserved to be made in a movie by Hollywood. She is a legend in Vietnamese culture and a great actress in Hollywood. Listen to her story, try to understand the feeling of a woman who had just lost her country to the communist, flying around the world in 24 hours to find a second home without knowing the future ahead of her or what happened to her loved ones that were left behind. It must be devastating. A sad day for her and a mourning day for freedom of South Vietnam.
Thanks for telling us your incredible story on the day when Sai Gon collapsed into VC. You were the lucky one who could reside or being refugeed in Toronto. There were many people left behind and could not escape VC.
Wow, she had really special story. Thanks for your sharing
Kieu Trinh is a talented actress I ever know
