I think VW should implement on the ID lineup the CarKey protocol to have a digital key on your smartphone and smartwatch that works both with NFC and UWB
I hope we get the same SW features in our id 3. I really like the center display options. The battery care is also great... It has happened more than once it was accidentally still at 100% even though I only needed it once. I ever need 100% twice.
Nice video, ps. the avg. speed is lower becuase you need to calculate "harmonic medium" to get avg. Speed. Even if you drive 100 km, non-stop at the same speed, you can not apply the arithmetical medium formula.
VW ID cars are still not very efficient, VW should really focus on this, especially for the 2023 restyling, heat pump with heat scavenging as standard + battery heating only when necessary + improvements to aerodynamics + lighter materials to reduce overall weight + more efficient powertrain and electronics optimisation. Gaining an 8% increase in efficiency would be very good!
VW doesn't priorize aerodynqmics in design, so it isn't optimized. ID5 is better than ID4 in that, so It is expected to be more eficient. I am looking forward to see q test of Enyaq Coupé
very solid test. also like that you compare miles and km next to each other ;) would be cool tonclmpre to Model Y which is the most realistic competitor as well as Enyaq and fat ETron 😎
Congrat's to beeing the first to do a rangetest with the ID5. I drove the ID4 a couple of weeks ago and was amazed about driving experience, but it's too much of a "tank" to me. The ID5 looks so much better to me. Unfortunately VW does not offer adjustable recuperation via paddles like Hyundai or Kia. What about V2L(H)?
Good info on the range & the charging....(next test drive .....go somewhere close to a barber.....just say "short round the back & sides,...not too much off the top" ) 😅😅😅😅
I test drove the new ID 5 GTX electric from Volkswagen and I was very surprised that the automatic cruise control constantly reads the speed limit and slows you down even if it's an exit sign speed limit. and it's an option that you can't disable so you're driving on the highway at 100 and it reads a sign that the exit is 40 and it starts slowing you down to 40! extremely annoying
Amazing review…greeting from Dubai waiting to hit our market i used the ID4 but this look amazing!! Do you think i should wait or go for the id6 specially i have a big family
Hi Chris, great video again! I think you mentioned you had the heater on low. To be fair do you normally switch AC and cabin heating off? By the way, the old E-Golf is not too shabby on your W/km table 😉
AC is always off, unless it is too warm. I turn the heater off when warm. In this test I wanted the same conditions as the Id.4 had last year. But too cold.
Thank you Chris for this first impression of the id5 , can you say if the software will preheat battery before fastcharging and can you show something about bidirectional charging ?? Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
@@abraxastulammo9940 The ID5 is the sportback version of the ID4 not the successor. Basically the same car with a different body. V2L will only be possible with a special wallbox.
V2L is vehicle to load ..i.e. plug an appliance into the car via a plug socket or CCS adapter. V2G is supplying energy from the vehicle to your building via the car's charge port, cable and V2G enabled wallbox.
Hi Chris, once again great content. Question, if you were to order the mid range specs and battery in tye ID3,4 and 5 now, how long would it take to deliver within Europe?
You should be testing all features of the car including features you may not use as your viewers may want to see that feature and how good/bad it happens to be, thinking here of your mention of the auto-lane change feature at the start when you mentioned prefer to do it yourself. Like the review even though it could be a VERY long time before it comes to Australia if ever since we aren't getting the ID.3 or ID.4 really any ID cars at this stage, welcome to politics. But the Cupra Born is coming as is the Enyaq.
That i,s Why I prefer petrol and diesel cars because there is no need to be afraid of running dry if you fill it up before you drive and that the weakness with EV cars .My diesel car have range of 800 kms with full tank!
Why? Pretty normal when it is not 25 degrees. Perfect weather you get 340km. I just took a GTX to Copenhagen. 1300 km one way. It was great. Video is online. The Pro will have lower consumption than the GTX.

Wow, very Good . 126 kmh/100 km average speed and rain and 21 wheels. And than only 23 kWh/100 km.
I don’t know why but man I love the look of that car. Just placed my order for an id4 here in the states.
I enjoyed your video. It looks like a great EV. I cant wait to try one:-)
Thank you for clarifying the battery care mode.
I had a look to a id5 today ... its better than the id4 ... but i look forward to next week ... ordering my id buzz
That blue Enyaq on the charger next to the id.5 was beautiful :)

We will. All meb cars
In europe that car coast 40k € in china same car cost 19k €. Nice review great job.
I really love this car in white.
Great stuff by the german Bjørn Nyland!
Since he is German 😉 are we brothers then,?

not having stupid 21" wheels would certainly help
Not efficient? The result of this test is identical to the result of the Model Y, which currently is the industry leader in efficiency.
Id.4 in perfect conditions was 345km, Model Y 375km. Very close. ModelY also had a smaller battery. Id 5 should be a bit better than Id.4

@@BatteryLife misswd that... you do too many good videos 😎👍
Great and relevant test. Since you were the first one to range test the ID 5 ,it would be nice If you will be the first to range test the EQE 350+ :)
Thanks. But Mercedes does not give me any cars anymore. They checked my footage and they think it does not suit their brand.
@@BatteryLife Ok, this chanel is not a lifestyle chanel, but your tests are relevant and informative for the ev world .

No v2l
Would be nice to have battery percentage estimation at destination on the instrument cluster on the navigation tab
Na, it is fine, would be too much.

Maybe trademark.
@@BatteryLife true, never considered that. I imagine the logo and colours must remain original.

Yes you can turn that off.
Assist/ acc/speed limit preview.
And it does speed up to the highway speed when it recognises the end of the speed limit.
Looks somewhat better that the 4, yes.
Looks a bit cramped design though.
The thing I don't like about the VW IDs or the Audi EVs is that they don't have one pedal driving. That is one of the best things about EV driving.

Id.6 is just for the Chinese market
Are you going to do the id5 range test 90 km/h ?
If I get another car, yes

There is no. I say it in the beginning of the video.

285km at 124km/h is not too bad.
at 110 km/h you will get 320ish km. at 100km/h that will give you 360+.
In good weather 350km should be possible at that speed.
I guess I’m the only one who thinks, that ID.4 looks better than ID.5
Is bidirectional charging AC or DC? is it with the Type 2 connector or with the CCS?
AC Type 2, special charger needed
I'm pretty sure, at least for discharging VW will use DC/CCS. Ford is doing the same with their Charge Station Pro for the F 150.
Is there preconditioning of the battery when you put in a charger for destination so you don't get cold gating Chris?
No
@@BatteryLife booooooooo. Come on Chris. Straighten out those VW guys.

Yes. Non performance has 30hp less.

The range of the ID 5 should be over 400 kms ,but that is aparently not true with only 285 km of highway driving with 285 km !
Drive slower and you have 500km of range
This car needs 200 kW rwd!
Awd 300kW
I feel those 133 km/h like 50 km/h maybe is just me, but anyway.
EV are not made for highways yet , just imagine winter figures ….
I disagree. The range on the highway just has to be enough to get to the next hypercharger.
I have a VW EV and it is so underwhelming. This one looks a bit shit too although much improved.
Why not do it yourself instead of trusting a car change the Lane.
