  • An oldie but a goodie! Look what I found, a rusty 1988 Toyota 4x4 5 speed pickup truck with the legendary 22RE Toyota engine! This would be the perfect firewood truck for the log cabin!
    An in-depth look at this rugged little Gen1 (1984-1988) 4x4 from Toyota and a bit of a snow storm at the cabin. 🍻✌
    Does it work? Lets see!

    That's a perfect beater truck - speaking from experience. Sold my 1991 Toyota Hilux 4x4 Quad Cab Diesel earlier this year. Used it to access our remote hunt/fish camp out on the east coast for years. Never let me down. Still got seller's remorse!

    As I understand, the 1982-1985 model years for what was simply called the Toyota Truck at the time, was redesigned by the Toyota Landcruiser engineering team. Those models were essentially a lightweight version of the venerable Landcruiser with respect to the frame, suspension and solid front axle set up. 1985 introduced the EFI version of the 2.4 litre 22RE and was the last year of the solid front axle in North America.

    WOW! WOW! I smiled (from start to finish!) the whole time watching your video! I forgot to mention, before I bought my 1988 4Runner, I had a 1984 Xtra-CAB SR5 4X4 - Yup, it was white with a snugtop shell, with silver decals along each of the wheel wells (I never did like them though and spent many hours scrapping them off!). Watching your shots of the interior brought back long lost memories! Your descriptions were spot on, yes - that small open cube square is where the AC button was, and yes...that blank space is where a digital clock would be! Just TOO funny watching this video, and the 22RE engine is simply amazing, not very powerful, but will run and run and run! The engine sounds as good as the day the original buyer drove it off the lot. I even had to laugh when you showed some of the documentation in the visors...one of which I remember quite well as it shows where you need to grease with the grease gun - loved seeing that! You are going to have a LOT of fun with the truck, replacing parts here and there, and I get what you said...it's nice to have a throw around truck for errands and not use the 4Runner all the time, this is Perfect! I hope you will document with videos any and all upgrades, replacements you plan to make! Your interior shots also reminded me how my trucks were equipped back then, but its funny looking back 35+ years, how spartan it is compared to today's SUV interiors, but back in 1984...it was like Wow, a nice new interior!!!
    Thanks again for the great video, and look forward to seeing new ones on this amazing truck!

    I've got a few more options..but what caught my eye especially is that, same as yours, the steering wheel sits slightly tipped towards the left when tracking straight down the road.

Anyway quick heads up Never let it get hot i’m talking in the red chances are it will blow a head gasket I made that mistake but not immediately changing out the original radiator when it developed by slow leak 6 miles to town and back forgot to add Freon Bam blew the gasket

      I enjoyed talking about my truck mainly because there seems to be so much curiosity at the gas station or grocery store supermarket parking lot I get asked if it’s for sale at least twice a month. No dents straIght .maybe five years ago I had access to a garage and painted it myself Took about two weeks I was 65 years old then LOL hated to lose the decals painted medium gray if I could only replace the door panels! Serious cracks in the Dash covered up with a aftermarket cover out of sight out of mind . This will go to one of my grand children . Y’all drive safely Love live .East Texas in the spring What a beautiful sight through the windshields in the country

    You did good with your truck purchase. In your future videos show us a truck progress segment just for the fun of it. You can put a coolant heater unit insert for the bottom radiator hose. I don't know if Ebay has them listed??? I use a push broom to push the snow off my truck, then toss it back in the cap of my truck. I have an 02' Ford Ranger XLT 4.0L 4X4 I had bought new for $19,000 with now having 174,000 miles, it runs, drives , and looks like new, but just starting to rust at the bed lower rear fender. Dealerships don't want to work on rust repairs.

    • @JimmyMeatwhistle
      @JimmyMeatwhistle  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the comment and info Bill much appreciated. Yeah I'll try to keep up on anything I've done to the truck and I'll put it into videos. I'm still picking through it and once the snow clears up a bit I'll get a better look. That Ford of yours has been doing great a job! I think the older the vehicles are the better they were built💪🍻
