Quintessential Canadian Rockers April Wine to be inducted to Canadian Music Hall of FameThe Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) is pleased to announce the induction of hard-rock band, April Wine, to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. In 2009, the group marked its 40th anniversary a celebrated span of time that has produced an impressive repertoire of hits among its 16 studio albums all which have surpassed gold status. April Wine will receive their honour at THE 2010 JUNO AWARDS in St. Johns, Newfoundland and Labrador, on Sunday, April 18th during CTVs live broadcast.
April Wine formed in late 1969 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, but vocalist/guitarist Myles Goodwyn, guitarist David Henman, drummer Ritchie Henman and bassist Jimmy Henman soon moved to Montreal. "Fast Train," their first hit, appeared in 1971, the same year as the self-titled debut album. Jimmy Henman left soon after and was replaced by Jimmy Clench. The next year brought the band's first Canadian number one single, "You Could Have Been a Lady," from On Record. David and Ritchie Henman left before the next album, Electric Jewels, could be recorded; they were replaced by Jerry Mercer and Gary Moffet. After April Wine Live (1974) and Stand Back (1975), Steve Lang replaced Clench, who left to join Bachman-Turner Overdrive and later Loverboy. In 1976, The Whole World's Goin' Crazy became the first Canadian album to go platinum and their resulting tour was the first to gross one million dollars. Forever for Now appeared in 1976, followed by April Wine Live at the El Mocambo in 1977. Guitarist Brian Greenway was added that same year, making the band a sextet. After 1978's First Glance and 1979's Harder...Faster, "Just Between You and Me" became April Wine's biggest U.S. hit. The single (one of three Top 40 American singles by the band) propelled 1981's Nature of the Beast to platinum-record status. Power Play followed in 1982, and 1984's Animal Grace was their last album. Myles Goodwyn recorded his first self titled solo album in 1988. Four years later, all the original members joined for a Canadian tour, which convinced them to resume recording. "If You Believe in Me," the band's first single in eight years, was followed by 1993's Attitude. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
This song (video's a bonus) is my favorite song by Myles Goodwyn with April Wine. Of all 16 Studio Albums, this track (LP version) has always been and continues to be my true favorite. Starting in '72, I've seen them live dozens of times. Myles Goodwyn continues to write and record excellent music. March '23 may be the last time he preforms with April Wine. It's been a love affair for me with this music for 50 years and counting. I guess it's become part of who I am. The stories I could tell. Followed them for 21 shows in '06. Front row most of the time. Where has the time gone. Thank You Mr Goodwyn for a life time of wonderful music n memories.
Stories?
Please share?
My first concert April wine 1973. Wichita falls. Tx. Stay well and groovy my friend. Texas
Moi aussi.....the best song !
Stories to share? Here's just one,..... In 2004 or 05, on a July 1st weekend, I took my 15 year old son n his best bud to see April Wine in Dartmouth NS. Myles Goodwyn knew me as a fan who had attended many shows over the years, singing along, playing air guitar and drums. Some ladies in the crowd had been repeatedly calling out 'I'm on Fire for you Baby'. Finally Myles said, "I haven't sang that in a few years, don't know if I remember the words". He looked down at me, I nodded and mouthed, "no problem". So, Myles played n sang the song, almost never taking his eyes off me during the verses, watching me sing it, just as clear n plain as I could, being sure to stay ahead of the timing just enough for him to pick up the lyrics. When he finished, he winked at me and said thank you. I thought that was pretty cool. 1948-2023 Myles Goodwyn RIP.
Myles Goodwyn's beautiful voice was a gift and I'm happy he chose to share that gift with all of us. I was saddened to hear that he has retired as his health isn't very good. I hope some R&R will agree with you.
This band put out some really awesome music over the years!!!
RIP Myles Goodwyn you gave us your everything. Thank you
I miss Myles so much! There is a hole in my soul, he was outstanding in so many ways. RIP
Myles is one of those artists who is simply blessed.
I really don't know if he realized how great he was
Absolutely!
hardest working band in Canada and beyond in the 70s and 80s they played everywhere from small towns to the bigger citys and every where in between
April Wine is without question one of Canada's most " Iconic Bands " ..... I just saw the guys in Port Colborne, Ontario ( Pt.Colborne Canal Days ) and they're still a class act !! Thanks to Myles and the band for a lifetime of memories and some of the greatest music in history ....
I was at that show too. My first for April Wine I'm sad to say. Great Canadian band.
Myles you have the singing voice of a canadian angel
Totally!
RIP Myles :( You were exceptional, man.
Long Live Myles ❤
Such a great band, my youth memories, they should have been in the hall of fame…
I live in Los Angeles and saw AW for the Power Play and man they kicked some butt! They were on of the first groups to open the new indoor Universal Amphitheater at Universal Studios. I saw them again down here in around 2000 at the Galaxy in Santa Ana and Myles, Brian and Jerry rocked. I mean it was KICK ASS LOUD!! Jerry did his solo and stood up and grabbed his heart -" I'm having a hear attack" I really feel sorry for these kids today, not really knowing what music is-THANKS APRIL WINE
RIP Myles, thanks for all the great tunes while I grew up.
One of the best bands ever!!
We don't see band like that anymore, but man those were the days

im not a ballad kinda guy, but cmon, sooo underrated of a band.......canadian rock, does rock
I had the pleasure of meeting the whole band in 2003 in Regina, after a show. They are the.most down to earth real people. I told Myles, growing up on them; how incredible it was to talk to them. It's that East coast charm, they have.
This song sure takes me back to yesteryear.....Myles has such a beautiful voice even today!
Love April Wine! All their songs are great 😍
Jeez man, it just brings a tear to your eye. So many Canadians like myself grew up listening to this incredible band. So sad he's gone.

Just saw them on the waterfront Dartmouth Aug. 2022. Amazing night and they still got it goin for sure. Just the four of them. No extra backup siigners or other musicians to "help out". They rocked last song was accompianed by massive fireworks over the harbour. Ooowhatanite.

myles Goodwin the most under rated musician in Canada. april wine and rush should be in the ROF
just April wine is an amazing band ...rush are a normal band

April Wine was one of first bands to play at the new Universal Amphitheater in LA in 1982 - blew my mind and I bought my ticket the day of the show at Sears ticketron for like $14 and sat in row k. Their sound was so crisp and the tightest 3 guitarists going off on 21st Century Schizoid man - I guess that was when music was real music - Thanx for the upload...
I wanna live if I have to die. Thanks for all the great music. Rest in peace.
I've seen April Wine around 10 times and they are always great. The first time I was around 12 years old at Simonds Centenial arena. The arena is gone but April Wine will live on forever! I kept singing this song in my head all day yesterday thought I better go to UA-cam!
On P.E.I ?
Murray Donovan you're from Saint John? I was there as well. I've seen them everytime they have been in New Brunswick. I worked with them the very first time they played here at the a paramount theatre. It's gone now as well

Great band , great song....
You got a point. As much as I love Rush it seems like April Wine could match them hit for hit- seems like every awesome song from the 70s-80s that I forget who sings it--it's APRIL WINE!!
my first concert was April Wine opening for Foreigner and they blew Foreigner f**king away ... they were Great
That doesn't surprise me 😅
I covered this song in the 80's in a local band & I see this now---& I feel embarrassed because I didn't do it justice.Beautiful.
I love this song.Brings back so many good memories of a time of no responsibilities.
Myles you are so awesome, come back to Cape Breton to play!!!!!
Rest in peace Miles may the music of April wine bless your ears in heaven and Gods
Awesome song!
Breaks my heart that he is no longer with us RIP Myles 😥

Wow who compares Rush to April Wine. Rush are like Greek philosophers of intellectual hard rock and April Wine are tuneful writers of love songs.
ha!~~
Rush is confusion. Only musicians like them.
Such a powerful balad rock song.Like a lover like a song and rock n roll is a vicious game two of my favorite ballads if not top 5 aprilwine songs. Also love playing both songs with my band
