I was looking for a solution to hook my edifier s3000pro to a sub because they don't have sub out, and found this. it is perfect for me as my tv only has HDMI and optical out. I will pair them with an svs sb1000pro.

Thanks for the detailed review Rick! I'm stuck between picking up the Topping D70 Pro Octo vs the D50 III to pair with my A70 Pro. While the D70 Pro is the obvious complimentary choice , I'm hesitant to pounce on it given it's more than 2x the cost of the cheaper option. And the financially wise part of me is wondering if it is worth it. Just wanted your thoughts on this? Cheers mate🍻
I totally get it. Well... The octo is my pic, because I love that laid back sound. But if you want detail and more energy the D50iii is an awesome pic as well. I have the D90 III Sabre in now and that D50 sounds pretty close to the D90! So you won't go wrong saving the money either. Just really a matter of what type of sound you like. 👍
@@RickRuizAudio Thanks for the feedback Rick. Too bad Topping are not making a D50III with Cirrus Logic DACs. I would have jumped on it in a jiffy. Well I guess I'll have to save up for the Octo. At least it's going to match up to my A70 Pro 😅.

If Geshelli sends me a loaner, I'd love to take a look at it, but I just don't like their styling to purchase one myself. I don't like the case. I wish they would offer a nice, clean aluminum enclosure for a little money more. If I have to make the case myself, it would cost around $200 but they can get that down to under $40 with higher volume production.

Hello Rick, do you have any observations of how the sound of D50iii compares to Topping E70(either vanilla or V) aside of measurements?
I'm sorry, I haven't heard the E70. Just the D70s. I'll ask around to see if I can borrow an E70 though 👍

I've had mine for a week, and I've tried to upgrade the firmware a dozen times with the guidance of the seller. They've been helpful, but nothing works. Topping even took the firmware down from their site, so I'm left with a useless paperweight at this point.
Who did you buy it through? Won't they exchange it for you since you've only had it a week? Maybe they (Topping) have a bug in the last firmware and a new one will have a fix. Sorry to hear Scott. But thanks for sharing.
@@RickRuizAudio I got the updated firmware through the seller, and it still doesn't work. Exchanging it wouldn't help because I'd still be unable to upgrade the firmware. Hoping to return it for a refund. Very frustrating.
@@scottrex3435 May I ask, why do you need to update the firmware? I have my review sample and I don't see any problem with the one installed. Is there a new feature you wanted to get with the update?
@@RickRuizAudio When I powered it on, the only thing the screen would display was "DFU." It was inoperable.
@@scottrex3435 Ahh. Got it. Yeah. Mine goes to DFU when you power it on with a long press. Then to go back to normal mode, I have to unplug it, replug it in, then give the power a regular short press to power it on. Or use the remote.
How does it compare with SMSL D6 they look identical in terms of input and output
I just did a video on the SMSL DO100 Pro. Pretty much interchangeable in sound. I have the D-6s on the way, but I'm assuming it will be the same. I'll make that video next week 👍

I would AVOID APOS audio and Topping as they do not provide after sale support. Typical ChiFI. I was told to send my unit back to China even though it is a known issue (Coax signals do not lock)... that is all over the internet ! It's a nice door weight right now. Denafrips is 10000X better ! Trust me... The global reseller provides SUPERB service even way after warranty!
Hey PTG, I just researched the problem you have with your DAC and Coax. May I ask, what model do you have? Do you have the D50iii? Just to be clear if Topping hasn't fixed the coax s/pdif issue with the Cirrus Receiver chip. I tested the D50iii I have, over coax as well and I personally don't have any lock problems, so I could just be luck or the problem could have been resolved on the new product revision. As for Apos's Support, I'll email them and ask their policies. I think they should just swap yours out if the coax isn't functioning, but they do claim to have a 45 day return window.
@@RickRuizAudio I have the D50S which I've used for a long time purely on optical so I was not aware of Coax problems until I had to use Coax input waaaay after APOS's 45 day return window. I have 2 other fantastic DACs (Marantz, Denafrips) and NONE OF THEM have the COAX signal locking issue. It is an obvious design flaw that they refuse to acknowledge and fix. I would be happy with just a swap with a similar unit that works. Oh well.. door weight....
