Nice to see Gordon is still active. In the 1970s he and I and a number of others worked in marine electronics at a smal company in Newport Beach, CA, and that included a lot of very talented field technicians and competant sales staff. He and I are among the last men standing from that time and place. He was and still is a fun and inteligent person to work with.
Recently in CT the Norwich Free Academy Radio/Electronic Club launched a balloon with a GoPro Camera/GPS/APRS and a LEGO astronaut in the video. The balloon was supposed to pop at 33,000 feet and descend about 20-25 miles from the launch site. The balloon didn't pop until 38000 feet and headed out across Long Island Sound. It appeared it was going into the water and would be lost. They're luck held and it landed near the pier area on Block Island where a contractor waiting for the ferry recovered it and returned it to the students. Unfortunately, the GoPro stopped recording when the balloon popped. The YT video is "W1HLO HAB Launch 2024" and "GoPro Footage from 2024 HAB Launch."
Sad news, for those in the VHF weak signal/EME community Al Katz K2UYH passed away in hospice. I worked him via EME a couple times and via aurora... he will be missed
