I bought my Rugar rifle in 350 about 3 years ago. Love the recoil. Love the accuracy. Jams like a SOB! Passed on a CVA single shot and ended up with a Rugar single shot.
This is my first year hunting with my 350 legend 170grain Hornady I’ve taken two nice 8 pointers and a six dropped everyone of them an outstanding round especially for brush hunting at least from my experience!
I just bought that exact gun. I highly recommend tightening the rail - it's loose from the factory and full of oil underneath and likewise the threaded barrel-end is only finger tight. Givem a good tightening. I love that gun and the videos!
Shot my first deer this year with a Ruger AR 350 legend with a 18 inch barrel. Shot it between 30 to 40 yards and it ran about the the same distance before dropping. I used 180 gr Power-Point Super X.
When I sight my rifles in I never go low like you did. I have never shot big bores. 264 win mag, 270 , 7mm rem mag, 30:06. And 308 are what I'm used to. Great channel I really enjoy it.
Best kept secret is the 350 legend...shoots well out to 200 yards and hits like a train. Best thing though is ammo is cheap and plentiful! My buddy got a AR upper and he loves it. Only pain is you have to modify magpul 30rd mags with a Dremel or file, then it feeds fine
The rugers magazine is a ten round magazine that Ruger stuffed a ton of coils of spring in to make it a 5 round magazine. I took the spring out and cut about 8 coils off and it cycles beautifully now no flaws at all
I’d love to see the terminal effects of 350 Legend on a deer. I used 450BM this year & could use a little lighter caliber next year. But the KO power of 450 is awesome! Good luck hunting!
I just bought a 350 legend today because of that exact issue. I shot a nice buck last year with my 450 bushmaster and had to throw away almost all of the shoulder I hit
@Nathan Dix did you get one? My father-in-law loves his 350 legend. He let a friend use it to take his daughter hunting. She killed a doe the first day. He went out and bought her one. LOL
I like the set up! Nice rifle and optic! I like zeroing rifles, it's fun and at the same time, I see how accurate I am with my rifle/ammo choice with it's group sizes. I remember years ago, I zeroed my dad's 22-250 for him and when he asked if it was on, I brought back a quarter that had a hole in Washington's head and said "yup, it's on." I admit, I was pretty proud of myself to put a hole in a quarter from a 100 yards, yet folks out there punching milk jugs at 2,000 yards, lol.
I have one of these in a Winchester XPR. The 350 Legend is pretty impressive, I sighted it in and it's 5/8th" 100 yard groups all day long if I do my part, if I mess up it's 3/4" groups. I have a Nikon 2.5x10 Monarch on mine. Perfect whitetail and coyote rifle for where I live in Southern Indiana.
I love my lil ruger 3fitty for what it is. And by the way man, that action and the mags will smooth out over time. I had a couple jam issues with mine out of the box. But a couple hundred rounds in she never skips a beat with any ammo. Also for what its worth Ruger sells the same mags in 10rd for $16 and they even shipped to me in NY....lol
I just got one of these I zeroed it with 1.5-4x Leopold and had the same issues with it shooting super high at 100 yards. Got that sorted out but had the same sticky bolt issues its definitely not a mauser with a controlled round feed claw extractor or even a Ruger M77. I will say this it's super accurate with almost every bullet weight and design from Winchester 145gr FMJ to Winchester 150gr Spitzer, Hornady SST 170gr and Winchester 180gr hunting loads @ 75yards it chews one ragged hole in the center of the target with zero scope adjustment! Ruger if you are listening build this in an M77 I think you already did as a scout. Which will be my next 350 legend purchase.
Bore sight at 25 yards you'll be within 4 inches at 100 yards, I've done 4 guns this year that way and all were fine tuned to perfect zero within 5 shots
Had the same problem with the sticky bolt on my American ranch in 5.56. Almost felt like broken glass and the milling was sharp enough to peel skin. I was out targeting with a friend and the bolt itself literally fell apart on the 3rd rnd in the mag. Hasn't seen more the 25 rounds at this time. Ended up having to send it back to ruger for what they called an updated bolt. Works like a dream now its so smooth you can speed shoot with it now. Something to keep in mind before your firing pin decideds to pop out and hit you in the eye.
How long did it take? I'm pushing 800 rounds threw mine in 556. Still sticky. Also how does the 762 hurt the wallet? I heard it got expensive. Only reason I got the 556 and I'm not a big fan of 300blk.
I found the bolt was not the issue on mine, as far as being smoother. My magazines were the issue on my 7.62x39mm Ruger American. The edges were rough, found sharp edges. The cartridges were hanging up a lot, forcing the cartridges, I could see bad scratches on them. I took my Dremel, used the cone shaped Cratex, like for polished feed ramps, and cleaned up all the edges, smoothed them out. Works heaps better now. These were factory Ruger 5 rd. Mini-Thirty mags. All 5 of my magazines were like this.
Mine in 5.56 has a nasty bolt too but man does that thing just keep running. I was stalking a group of hogs out here in Florida. Went into some swamp land and found a hole. Poor girl went straight in the mud with me completely covered. Blew out the bore the best I could but only because the group of hogs I was tracking walked right in my path. Dropped two of them back to back and she didn't hang up or complain one time.
I highly recommend attending a Project Appleseed clinic. I have been shooting for decades, and I went with the hope of learning something. I am so glad I went, I know I am a better shooter because of it. To anyone who wants some cheap instruction, and a good weekend of shooting, check out an event in your area. You will lean everything from sight adjustment, to breathing and trigger control.
Looking forward to seeing that grouping video. We need Paul to help you sight in initially. I have my dad help me. Soon as I get one on the paper I put the scope back on the center of target, hold the rifle rock steady and have my Dad turn my turrets down or up to where the hole from first shot was at. Takes the guesswork out of it for you since these cheap scopes are rarely 1/4" adjustment precise. I don't own any high end scopes under 60 years old. After Dad gets me turned down to first shot and then I recenter, it's usually within a half inch of where I need to be. I don't have a gun vice so I can't go this route with the precision that I can with an extra set of hands. Your oldest boy should be big enough to turn those turrets for you while you hold the gun down/steady. Have a good weekend and good luck to you and the youngins in the woods
when i sighted my rifle in i used a bore sight, but i started at 50 yards when i used my bore sight it has the target and i put my cross hairs in the middle of that and i was on paper at 50 yards but my riffle did the same thing after you were on paper but now that it is on i love it. to smooth out that bolt i used J-B Non-Embedding Bore Cleaning Compound i put that on my bolt and cycled my bolt a good 300-400 times then cleaned my riffle really good and that seemed to smooth out my bolt. love the video.
Nice looking RUGER I really like the Americans line for the money hard to beat. Thanks again for all the work you do for us to enjoy. God bless Who Tee Who and family. Stay safe and good hunting
At the risk of getting some flak, if the scope you are using is second focal plane, when you change the zoom your point of impact will change, if its first focal plane it want. Thanks for the video !!!
I have the Savage Axis 2 in 350 Legend. Shoots great but the rim of the last round in the mag tends to catch on the front of the mag. some slight filing on the front of the mag should fix that. I see the recoil as being in between 223 an 243. I love shooting it.
Im a little bit of a gun snob... I didn’t pay much attention to these... until... my friend bought one of these in .450 bushmaster.. I was extremely impressed! They are really nice guns! Period!
Awesome you finally did it ! I can't wait to see like the Hornady 165 FTX and 170 soft point ammo ballistic gel testing out to 100 yd I shot a buck Thanksgiving week with mine four deer with that gun in the last two years two of them DRT at 100 love the performance so far, keep the fun and entertaining videos coming good job!
It’s funny holding an actual 350 Legend cartridge in hand…looks small…but then you go to your target and look at the holes it leaves behind and think, geez that’s a pretty big bullet hole. Knocks steel around pretty good too…there are steel plates at 100 and 225 at the range where I shoot…does a good job.
I bought my ruger two years ago .I'm like you I don't waste money on high dollar glass my 350 will run half inch groups love watching your videos up here in Idaho
It’s not the bolt ,it’s the magazine. Like someone else said the magazine spring coil is too tight . I also removed the spring and 8 coils from the spring of bottom. Mine now cycles great.
Holy cow..... I've been looking at that model in 7.62 because 300 is hard to find and.... I told my friend if I find one in 350 I'm sold.... now I'm sold... I love the small rifle. Hope you enjoy It
I have the same rifle. I use 150 gr. Winchester whitetail ammo . Yes I have killed a deer. Ruger uses an AR type magazine which in an AR is run fast. I had issues with functioning running the bolt slow, jambs, failure to feed. I have had zero issues running the bolt fast. Run that bolt like your mad at it and it will perform. I have both the factory 5 round & 10 round magazines. Same result for both. Also I have noticed with scopes both used & new on any rifle that the adjustments want to stick if the scope has sat & not been adjusted for long periods of time.
Use white poster board with an orange stick on dot. It works especially well when sighting in a rifle. A 6 inch dot works well. Use orange duct tape to cover the holes in the dot. White on the holes on the white poster board. Target can be used several times when you tape the holes. I buy poster board for .50 a piece at a dollar store. Most sporting good stores have the orange dots in various sizes. I suspect Midway has them also.
I love my 350 Legend... the 180gr Winchester powered points hand loads are my favorite.. makes a nice deer rifle in the area I hunt in.. have one in a AR and a Ruger Scout Rifle
Thank you for another great video. I greatly appreciate the fact that you buy your own equipment to test. I for one will not criticize you for trying to conserve ammo, because I understand that wasting ammo is really fun when the cost is coming out of your own pocket. Keep up the great work.
I have my own range at my farm, wife gets stuff from Amazon all the time. For targets I use paper plates too. I put a big piece of cardboard behind the plate. Like the one you’re laying on. My math was the ammo was $2 a rd. Big sheet of cardboard way less :) I’m usually done < 5 rds.
Love the .350, but I fire mine from an AR upper. This is a rifle I do have on my radar though. I've taken two hogs with it so far. I'm sure any deer doesn't stand a chance. Happy hunting brother.
Might not be a bolt problem, closer inspection should reveal the problem. Beautiful rifle, too bad the action won't cycle smoother. I'd like to see it up against the 35 rem.
Highest I shot was a 223 how much more is it compared to that? More noticeable? I usually hunt low recoil easier to follow my shot and stuff but what’s lowest recoil straight wall cartridge?
Liked the video. Your issue was actually the scope hight. Normally a scope is about 1.5" from center of bore to center of scope. Your mounted about 3" over center of bore so your 10yd sight in should have been done about 3" low. You gotr done though! Hope you knock a deer down!
It would be my choice in 350 but can't do it. The reason is that when carrying by a sling, the protruding mag would constantly poke you in the back. Where I go is hilly terrain and need to use a sling. Probably going with an Axis 2 that has a flush mag.
A little yes, but not so much in my area. Here around central MI, my local Cabela's was pretty much wiped out of most rifle ammo and no handgun ammo...yet they had well over a couple hundred boxes of 350Legend filling all the empty shelves. I found it surprising since the lower half of the lower peninsula is a rifle restricted zone for deer so straight wall cartridges, handguns, and shotgun only.

I had the same issue in my Ruger 350 Legend with that 180 grain ammo you tried out. Zero wandered all over the target. Switched to another brand and bullet weight and the rifle seemed to like it much better. At 100 yards I’m able to hold about 1-1/4” groups. Plenty good enough for the conditions under which we hunt in northern Michigan.
I start rough sighting in at 15 yards. Usually takes about 3 shots. Get the left and right centered and be hitting about an inch low. I fine tune in at 30 yards dead on. Then tweak to hit about 2 inches high at 100. Depends on scope height of course for each particular gun. This will put rifle dead on again somewhere around 150 yards and a few inches low at 200. After shooting .22 and .30 caliber stuff, a .35 caliber hole is pretty impressive. Box says you can sight in 4 inches high with a 165 grain 2200 fps at 100 yards, and be dead on at 200, but I don't like to be shooting that high, especially if a coyote or other medium size animal shows up at a hundred.
Man I want one of these in 6.5 Grendel. Kicking myself cuz Sportsmans guide had them in stock a couple weeks ago and I freaking didn’t order one and now they are sold out. I have several ar15’s in 6.5 Grendel and use them as my main deer rifle but I’d love a nice light weight bolt action like this for my son to hunt with. I guess the 350 legend would do as good or even the 7.62x39 but I just like the longer range capabilities of the Grendel just incase.
I've been in that same situation at the range lots of times, fire a shot at 100 yards by myself and it doesn't hit paper. You can always bore sight it, that the bolt off look through the barrel then through the scope. Sometimes when I was hitting high I actually had to raise the elevation turrets to get the reticle to come down.
If you’ll aim back down the sight and while putting the crosshairs where you just aimed turn the elevation and windage to make the crosshairs match the hole you’ll be dead on.
Yeah, you were right. I’m going to comment about that scope is too high. You weren’t getting a good cheek weld and bore sighting should’ve been about 4” lower than the crosshairs on that setup.
Take the bolt and buff and polish it with a dremel or buffing wheel just use some jeweler polish and a few minutes. Ruger bolts are naturally rough from maching but I find that once you take the maching grooves out it smoothes right out.
What ever happened to sighting in at 25 yards, then 100 yards? And using 3 shot groups, before you make adjustments? I like that bore sighter, targets, and cardboard field mat. I thought that was just the way we do it! (Nothing fancy)
Ive got a Ruger Ranch Rifle in 223rem, and it has the same problem, the 4th round hangs up on the chamber. It stopped doing it when I switched to pmags.
Low power scopes, 1x4 power, are all the average hunter needs to take game. If you're into long range markesmanship competition, thats a different matter and you'd need a caliber anyway.
Bagged my eight point public land whitetail on Thursday using the 350 Legend. He stumbled thirty yards to his death bed. Complete pass through and blew two inch holes through both his lungs!
@@nateboyd1758 love the concept of this round! You get a modern day 35 Remington in a bolt action rifle and or AR :) It definitely hits game harder than it's paper ballistics. I think it has something to do with the caliber. The extra frontal area shows up on impact! Is there better choices? No doubt! But if you're looking for something that's lightweight points fast light recoiling accurate and inexpensive ammo.. the 350 Legend has that covered :)
GunPrime here: bit.ly/3mTvMhS
Really good vid,its best to take 2-3shot groups before you adjust for elevation and windage
Next time you sight in shoot hold crosshairs on bullseye and move your cross hairs to bullet hole will save tons in ammo and sight in 2-3 shots top
You couldn't see it if you saw it
@@colemaloy6877 then it wouldn’t be as entertaining.

Most sporting good stores have the orange
dots in various sizes. I suspect Midway has them also.
I just got one in 223 and you are right about the bolt, very rough to work.
I love my 350 Legend... the 180gr Winchester powered points hand loads are my favorite.. makes a nice deer rifle in the area I hunt in.. have one in a AR and a Ruger Scout Rifle
Awesome
Thank you for another great video. I greatly appreciate the fact that you buy your own equipment to test. I for one will not criticize you for trying to conserve ammo, because I understand that wasting ammo is really fun when the cost is coming out of your own pocket. Keep up the great work.
That should have read "when the cost is not coming out of your own pocket."
Thanks Bobby. Very few honest people out there anymore. Appreciate you watching bigtime
You can never go wrong with a deer hunting video!!! (unless the deer don't show up)...
🦌🦌🦌
I have my own range at my farm, wife gets stuff from Amazon all the time. For targets I use paper plates too. I put a big piece of cardboard behind the plate. Like the one you’re laying on. My math was the ammo was $2 a rd. Big sheet of cardboard way less :) I’m usually done < 5 rds.
Waiting on the hornady black .350 legend review!! PLEASE!! 2500fps 150gr🙌🏻
Site dead centre pull trigger. Site dead centre and adjust scope to the previous hole second shot should be dead centre third shot just to prove it
Love Ruger American rifle. I have one in 450 bushmaster great gun. One of my favorite gun in my safe.
Love the .350, but I fire mine from an AR upper. This is a rifle I do have on my radar though. I've taken two hogs with it so far. I'm sure any deer doesn't stand a chance. Happy hunting brother.
A buddy and I both bought 350’s this year and we had Winchester 150gr and Hornadys. Believe it or not, the Winchester grouped better than the Hornady.
I just filmed a grouping test video with 11 types of ammo. Video out soon
Die Lücke zwischen Zielfernrohr und Gewehr ist zu groß!
Sorry, i couldn't resist!😆😅
I have the exact same setup. I've taken many deer with it in Southern Indiana where we have to use straight walled cartridges
I love it
Got to get me one of them ruger 350 cause my 3 year old daughter claimed the AR/350 Legend 😜😜yep i too have more rifle then scope😁😁
I think we all have that problem
It's more fun to buy rifles than it is to buy scopes!!!
Love watching you and heavy metal i try not to miss a one. Down the earth boys.
Might not be a bolt problem, closer inspection should reveal the problem. Beautiful rifle, too bad the action won't cycle smoother. I'd like to see it up against the 35 rem.
Too much spring tension in the mag, remove 2 coils and it will cycle easier.
Get the correct mount ! Yep I said it ;) .. Get the optic down real close to that barrel . Also. Shoot 3 shot groups to verify :)
Why get it close to the barrel? Not needed
I harvested a large buck last weekend with my CVA CASCADE in 350 Legend. Dropped him in his tracks.
Awesome!!!
I just built me an ar15 in 350 legend 16 inch barrel. Just mounted my scope. I also have the problem of more rifles than scopes lol happy shooting.
Awesome
Damn, isn’t that your 3rd new rifle this week? Haha j/k. Truly awesome videos. Keep em coming.
I wish
350 Legend been gainin some popularity
Sure has
A little yes, but not so much in my area.

Yes I would like to send you go deer hunting with your brand new rifle your 350
👍👍🦌🦌🦌
Hope to see you kill a big buck with that 350 rifle
Nice. Setup now go get them Trophy 🏆 Bucks
🦌🦌🦌
Man I want one of these in 6.5 Grendel. Kicking myself cuz Sportsmans guide had them in stock a couple weeks ago and I freaking didn’t order one and now they are sold out. I have several ar15’s in 6.5 Grendel and use them as my main deer rifle but I’d love a nice light weight bolt action like this for my son to hunt with. I guess the 350 legend would do as good or even the 7.62x39 but I just like the longer range capabilities of the Grendel just incase.
Love the gun I have one in 350 legend absolutely love it for hunting
One of my favorites
Take it to the deer woods! She is ready for some white tail!!🦌🦌
🦌🦌🦌
I've been in that same situation at the range lots of times, fire a shot at 100 yards by myself and it doesn't hit paper.
You can always bore sight it, that the bolt off look through the barrel then through the scope. Sometimes when I was hitting high I actually had to raise the elevation turrets to get the reticle to come down.
If you’ll aim back down the sight and while putting the crosshairs where you just aimed turn the elevation and windage to make the crosshairs match the hole you’ll be dead on.
500 count pack of printer paper is $4 just sayin lol
👍👍
You and Paul are doing a great job. The cheapest I found today was Winn 145 fmj at $20.00 a box of 20. Thankyou and God bless
Appreciate you watching Stephen
Yeah, you were right. I’m going to comment about that scope is too high. You weren’t getting a good cheek weld and bore sighting should’ve been about 4” lower than the crosshairs on that setup.
Take the bolt and buff and polish it with a dremel or buffing wheel just use some jeweler polish and a few minutes. Ruger bolts are naturally rough from maching but I find that once you take the maching grooves out it smoothes right out.
👍👍
I've got one identical to the one you've got with a Vortex Diamondback
I love 350 legend I always have 500 rounds for mine I shoot it every weekend
Nice
I love my Ruger American Ranch 350 legend
🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
What ever happened to sighting in at 25 yards, then 100 yards? And using 3 shot groups, before you make adjustments? I like that bore sighter, targets, and cardboard field mat. I thought that was just the way we do it! (Nothing fancy)
Awesome deer gun. I have killed several with mine. Just finished a 350 legend AR build
well what was the cause of it jamming ? and did you get it to sight in?
Ive got a Ruger Ranch Rifle in 223rem, and it has the same problem, the 4th round hangs up on the chamber. It stopped doing it when I switched to pmags.
Man two videos with Who-tee-who in my box waiting. Sorry Mr.Paul but i must say his other partner is the choice id pick today. Who-tee-who
Low power scopes, 1x4 power, are all the average hunter needs to take game.
100% can relate to sighting in the 350. Great video!
@@nateboyd1758 love the concept of this round!
You get a modern day 35 Remington in a bolt action rifle and or AR :)
It definitely hits game harder than it's paper ballistics. I think it has something to do with the caliber. The extra frontal area shows up on impact!
Is there better choices? No doubt!
But if you're looking for something that's lightweight points fast light recoiling accurate and inexpensive ammo.. the 350 Legend has that covered :)
Where can you find the detachable magazine kit for the Ruger American rifles? I have looked everywhere and can only find a expensive aftermarket one.
Best deer rifle I’ve ever own!! Every deer I’ve shot I’ve dropped just put it near the pump house and they have no chance
I love it
