This ain’t about the teachers, it’s about the whole goddamn curriculum being shit. I’ve knew 2 sisters from my country who did middle school and high school in America and even though they said they always got straight As in America, they were struggling heavily to keep up with their home country’s education, specifically math, history and geography. Now you might think we all are from some super rich European country but we are all from Brazil (shit our education system ain’t the best either so I was shocked when they told me this)
Guess an American teacher would be fired from an European school the first day he tries to teach.

You are the perfect example for what happens, when you travel the world. Just because you did that, you are waaaaaayyyyyy ahead of the average American! We in Europe know that Americans don't know much about the rest of the world. Or sometimes nothing at all. But this really hurts!

In the US the vast majority does a lot of boosting and bragging about they're the best, the biggest, the smartest, and what more.

When I went to study for a year in a high school in America it was when I saw how horrible the education system is.. In *WORLD HISTORY* class, I only heard the teacher speak about the US. In *GEOGRAPHY CLASS* , we had a test that was "name the 50 states" and every class was about the US states (also when I told people I was from Brazil, there were people that didn't even know where it was.. IT'S THE 5TH BIGGEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!!!). In *MATH CLASS* the teacher told us to buy a really pricy calculator and when the test came to use it, the questions were like "what is 10+30?"... I was shook that this is what they were teaching the students.. No wonder Americans are labeled as "dumb". Not to mention the questions i got asked like "if you are from Brazil why do you not speak Spanish?", "so do you have monkeys and other animals just walking around your backyard?" and many more like that.. it made me sad to see and hear that to be honest.
I know these are only a small percentage of those spoken to, but its frightening that there are even this many. What really surprised me was the older man thinking there had been 3 world wars.
he probably thought korea was a world war giving him a massive benefit of the doubt here it did involve the Un but it was never called a war it was called a police action and only North Korea and South Korea ever declared war so its an no it wasnt a world war but it did involve all the players of what would of been a world war (China and Russia provided troops and equipment to North Korea the US Britain Greece France Belgium and African troops did fight in the police action on south Korea behalf but yeah not offically a war.
And the other older man, who thought, Hiroshima and Nagasaki were known "judo wrestling", whatever thats supposed to be. Like wtf, the young 1s are bad enough, but the 1s old enough to have lived it?

It's not a hit piece if that's what you are suggesting. To interview and edit that many dumb people would take forever outside of the US. Numerous News shows around the world have done pieces like this and had very similar results and these shows do not spend a lot of time hitting the US streets with a mic and camera crew because the do not need to.

@@aidanmargarson8910 I live in Adelaide and we had a couple of short lockdowns. The second one was only about 3 days. We led a relatively normal life right through the pandemic.
But I guess we can’t say the same about Melbourne and Sydney.

I remember a video like this done in The Netherlands by 'de vakantieman' in de 90s. He showed them a map of Europe during a 'vacation' congress where ppl went to check out holiday countries. Many Dutch had no idea where Poland, Italy, Sweden etc. were. Stupid is here as well!

Some years ago Rick Mercer (a Canadian comedian) filmed a show about Americans lack of knowledge of Canada. For example, he asked a geography professor if he'd sign a petition about banning seal hunting in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The man did (despite Winnipeg not being near anywhere seals would be). It was funny!
I always LOVE videos like this, don't care that they only eddited the worst answers, its hillarious, always amazes me that there are people in well developed countrys that lack this basic knowledge.

When recently was helping his little sister with her homework, the question was: on what Japanese city did the USA drop a nuclear bomb?
She didn't even know there was a second one.
When he went to her school he was told, it isn't in the curriculum.

I do find it odd that even the older generation did not pick up any of this knowledge even by accident.
I completely understand that U.S education is very lacking in many ways and that most Americans aren't stupid - Just uneducated or ignorant. Mostly a good mix of both. But it never ceases to baffle me how little people actually know. Nobody ever had to tell me word for word every country that exists in the world, I just know Sri Lanka is a fucking country. Like how do you not just naturally pick up on that over time? Do people not have news channels in the U.S that really go deep into analysing and really explaining what has happened in the Middle East? No independent news stations questioning politicians, overlooked or misrepresented issues etc? I just don't understand how you don't pick it up. Idk. Every day when I go on social media I learn something about a country's situation, politics, I learn new perspectives and takes on issues I never thought of myself. I can't NOT learn something new going on social media or watching the news.

I have to say that I asked about these questions as a french student and I was baffled by the amount of things american students thought things came from them as if everithing came from america.
I do believe it ls great because people think everything came from them but they don't admit they didn't invent everything(didn't invent most of things actually).
