  • Would you like to sketch the birds at your feeder and garden? Learn basic techniques to get the bird on paper while it is still in front of you and how to fill out the drawing from memory and reference once it has flown the coop.
In this workshop we explore drawing songbrids from the side, front, rear, and front and rear 3/4 views. These fundamentals can be applied to draw any bird from any angle.

Thank you Jack for sharing these lessons online! I am not able to get your book from the library since someone didn’t return it by the due date... luckily I can come here and continue to work on my skills. I love birds and being able to draw them is giving me so much happiness!

With your "new technique" of drawing the nape/upper back angle first, I was able to more quickly and accurately draw bird angle and proportion. Thus, I spent an hour yesterday afternoon watching and sketching an Anna's Hummingbird defend the feeder. I obtained 6 sketches for the "homework": side perched, side in flight at feeder, the other drawings perched: front, back, 3/4 facing away, 3/4 facing toward. Thanks!
