How to start a bird sketch

Ooh look, it's a bird! Let's sketch it. A successful drawing of a bird is less about the details of its plumage and more about getting the shape and silhouette of the bird, with accurate posture and proportions. Once you have this shape, filling it in is the (relatively) easy part. Learn how the first critical lines of your sketch can make all the difference in your bird sketches.
