Vince Venturela I think has some of the best videos on UA-cam if you wanna improve your painting, his hobby cheating videos are just a treasure trove of knowledge.
Yeah, Vince is the best teacher on YT, there are literally hundreds of videos of his hobby cheating series. He's my go to source for resourceful information in a not overly long format
Came in to recommend Juan as well. I owe him a huge debt of gratitude as his Heavy Contrast series played a large part in getting my foot into the commission painting door
I think that getting a one off special of Rogue Hobbies, Goobertown and Eons of Battle would be amazing, the overwhelming positivity and good vibes they'd probably bring around world peace in an afternoon.
1,000%. He is what unearthed the chronic kitbasher in me. An event that has left me significantly lighter in the bank account, but significantly happier in the brain department.
I don't know about Pete. He has some weird ideas about colour selection. For example, he never uses black, he always substitutes with grey claiming it is better. Now it may be that the camera doesn't do the job justice because colour definition is a thing. But When I see soldiers running around in grey where there should be black, or when he painted ships from the Black Seas set with grey guns it just rubs the wrong way.
Several great painters have already been mentioned here in the comment section. But I would like to mention Roman Lappat. I love his speed painting videos. And the video series about color theory was a big eye-opener for me.
I see your stuff at the top of reddit all the time and i've saved some images as reference material. It must be a good feeling to get to a point as an artist where you have a distinct style that stand out among the crowd.

This is what I always say when painting channels comes up. His talk about how he continues to have fun with the process is at least as good or better than his talk about the painting techniques themselves. (Not that he's any slouch at that either, as the golden demon on his shelf would attest.) I also like how he's constantly returning the basics, trying out variations on them, and talking through what they're meant to accomplish. Like a master musician who still makes time to practice the scales.
Probably my favorite is Goobertown Hobbies. You are maybe the only hobbytuber I know of who could present a more relentlessly positive spin on everything in the hobby. I also really like Miscast - he's not afraid to fail on camera and that's REALLY refreshing. So much of what we see is only super polished perfect end results which can leave us normal folk disheartened when we run into issues on our own hobby journeys. Finally Marco Frisoni and Dana Howl have inspired me many times to paint brighter and more vibrantly.
I'd like to recommend Mediocre Hobbies. In a similar vein to Peachy tips his tutorials are really accessible and great for people who don't have huge amounts of time or feel intimidated by the incredible talent of the higher tier painters out there. Also thank you for introducing me to Goblin Green 2021!
I like Mediocre Hobbies a lot too. Time-poor shaky hand man that I am. Also tbh while it’s awesome to see the incredible stuff being done, honestly I love to see normal people’s slightly messy or quirky or whatever minis too, especially when they have real character even if they aren’t always inside the lines.
I very rarely comment on UA-cam, but i just have to say there were so many channels i haven't heard of before even with me watching painting video's almost everyday for over 2 years now. Thank you so much for the recommendations
I'm obsessed with @heresyforheretics rn :O I really love how he goes for artistic expression above all, every mini he puts out is so cool and unique. I feel like it's pretty easy for all of us who got into mini painting from GW to just try to emulate 'Eavy Metal style and stay inside that comfort zone, and I always feel like @heresyforheretics manages to put all of that aside and find some beautiful essence in the plastic itself that he just channels into reality. I feel like I very easily obsess over technique when painting my own minis, and I love how HfH over and over shows that, first off, less is more, and second of all, we're trying to make art, not just boast about technique. Really has me asking myself, "does this extra layer of extreme highlighting bring me joy" lol Everything feels so deliberate. Artistic vision above all.
Yep, came to the comments to give him a shout out, he really helped me push myself when it came to volumetric lighting, contrast and colour. And I found more than any other creator, following his painting style on a few models helped me grow and improve in all my other painting in a more traditional style
When I was lad painting in the 90s painting advice, help and tutorials were so hard to get. I like Ninjon for his thoughts and asides, Eons of Battle for the enthusiasm, and Vince Venturela for the sheer excellence. Rejoice! We are living in a golden age people!

Stu and his Miniature Realms deserve my mention. He is great for army painting, the Old World, and historicals. He is also very much talking to grown-ups, so to speak, yet with a passion for the hobby.
Haven't seen anyone mention him yet, but Sonic Sledgehammer Studios is really good. Clean and clear visuals and a thorough step by step approach to game play ready miniatures. And he does a lot of non-Warhammer stuff if that is a concern/interest. Another good one is MishMash. He does a basically 50/50 mix of WH and Quar videos. Also, I recently started following NukaKitten. Her videos even have a signature approving head bob at the end of each step.
One channel I adore because they are going hell for leather on their own thing is the Grimdark Compendium. They are especially good at teaching you how to use texture, either through kitbashing or making the paint work (using oils or mixing in varnishes to the paint). There is nowhere better to go if you want to paint something wild, dirty, and generally a bit gross.
I'm a huge fan of Peachy Tips, Peachy seems way more relaxed and comfortable painting his own style, I like the way he explains things and those Silver Bayonet bat reps are outstanding!
Indeed. Peachy knows he's a tabletop level painter, seems comfortable with that, is great at doing that at speed (simply by moving his brush faster :) ) and is probably one of the better starting points for people learning to paint.
Vincy v and ninjon are both top picks for quality videos, advice and variety. I especially like it when they cooperate and try to do smack talk, it's the most gloriously nerdy thing I've seen!

Love when artists promote artists!!! You’re a treasure to the hobby community. I’ve been painting for almost 10 years and still discovering new artists thanks to vids like this one. Thank you.
+1 shoutout to Byron at Artis Opus - can’t believe how far down I had to scroll to find him! There are literally several of us that watch this channel that actually enjoy drybrushing! Didn’t see Darcy Bono mentioned - her channel has a lot of really good ‘recipe’ videos that produce great results even if you’re just starting out. Other than that, everyone else that’s inspired or motivated me is already in this video (Flameon, Sorastro), listed in the honorable mentions (Duncan, Angel GiraldeZ) already listed in the comments (Vince Venturella, Miniac, Lyla Mev, Dana Howl, Heresy for Heretics)… or they made this video! Thanks Rogue Hobbies!
I would also add Juan Hidalgo, who does a lot with contrast paints, Ninjon, Miniac, Trovarion and Sam Lenz for experience, and teaching more advanced techniques in a simple manner, and Goobertown Hobbies is great for those people new to painting, with great tips, and his calm, relaxing, yet enthusiastic approach to painting. A few great ones mentioned here, and others i have to check out.
I feel like Marco Frisoni deserves more than a quick honourable mention; in my opinion his channel is the second best for learning minipainting (after Vince Venturella) and the best bar none for learning colour theory. He's also the most wholesome and enthusiastic Italian on the planet. Another (VERY niche) recommendation: James Wappel is *the* oil painting guy.
I have been painting mimis for 30 years, I think it took 10 years to get good, then 20 to 30 years to get very good, and have the confidence to try different techniques. I follow and watch painters to learn more and because I enjoy watching.
Great video. Never heard of infernal brush until now, I will give that artist a go. I think there are 3 types of painters on YT: 1) True artists who are also talented teachers 2) Good painters with an engaging channel 3) People who paint on YT
For alternative painting styles we have to mention Grimdark Compendium and The Feral Painter. Both have opened my eyes to a new and more interesting way to paint
Dice'n demons is a great channel as well for super interesting and crazy colour scheme's and well worth the watch for anyone. The painting schemes always blow my mind.
Lovely video! I'd love to add to the list of people to DEFINITELY have on your subscribe list on UA-cam is Troy from Sonic Sledgehammer Studio! Troy is an absolute darling of a guy and focuses on the joy of painting while getting things done in a really timely manner! Genuinely maybe my favourite painter on UA-cam! (Sorry Louise! 😜)
Alex Paints started his channel recently and I think he deserves a lot more love! Great sense of humor and so far has focused on helping new people learn to paint.
Love the shoutout for Craftworld - for a long time since coming back to the hobby I struggled with the weird cognitive dissonance of liking how my minis looked but also being unhappy that they didn't look like Eavy Metal and folks like Craftworld made me realize Eavy Metal looks great in photographs but looks kinda weird in your hand, and I've come to enjoy my painting a lot more since.
Some amazing ones already mentioned - thanks Louise. And so many others out there: Sam Lenz - like the style and theory Vince V - very good instruction and vast array of material Sergio Calvo - inspiration Miniac and Ninjon - good insight Juan Hidalgo - good techniques Artis Opus - good style and quick results (avoiding chalky dry brush on tanks was always a challenge until i saw this) Midwinter Minis - good fun and interesting content Zumikito - style and array of content I'm in the camp of getting a couple of hours every few days due to family and work. If i can't practice hard then I'll practice smart and learn what i can from these lovely folks by watching them on the train!
Great video! I really like how the mini painter content creator community interacts and collaborates with each other. One painter I only discovered recently is Kujo Painting - he really has unique videos and tutorials and his Scottish accent is even for non native speakers understandable 😉
For me the one person that really opened my mind to different approaches to painting was Marco NJM. He employs classical art techniques in his mini painting and is really good at simplifying methods and making them easy to understand. One of the best
Andy at Mediocre Hobbies isn't a painter's painter but I think he's very good for showing speed painting schemes for a bunch of models which can help motivate people to paint. I'm a fan
Zorpazorp’s painting tutorials during the covid period really got me back into painting again! I know he’s mainly known for his big board builds but his painting videos go under the radar 😅
I'd suggest Miniscape, a lovely blend between painting, discussing the history of the unit being painted, and to wrap it up a lovely song. I still find myself singing Land Raider, raider of land every now and then.
Fletcher on Tabletop Tactics is a great painter and when they put out a tutorial it's ALWAYS worth watching. Also Darcy Bono. She makes everything look like its achievable - I've learned a bunch
Vince Venturela I think has some of the best videos on UA-cam if you wanna improve your painting, his hobby cheating videos are just a treasure trove of knowledge.

That Dante is the best painting I've ever seen.
Truly amazing.
Billion Dollar Clown Farm is one of my favourites
Best UA-camr ever hands down
I was not expecting a Megadeth reference from you!
Always love seeing a Juan Sanz (elminiaturista) paint job for insanely eye catching and awesome looking lighting effects
his signature use of light is really amazing.
he uses photoshop to get that effect bud, he cant paint like that, no one can
I want to nominate ‘SultanPlays40k’ channel. Their kit-bashing and saturated aesthetic that then sees life in battle reports is outstanding.
Thank you! I paused and followed everyone I wasn’t, which was most of them!
lol at Rob's 1 slap chop video! Probably the best one imo
Thanks Louise, you always put a smile on my face. Don't worry so much about the negative people. We appreciate you!
Trovarion and Feral Painter are also great for the super "grimdark" style
The crew at Monument Hobbies. Jason and Jordan are great.
I have been painting mimis for 30 years, I think it took 10 years to get good, then 20 to 30 years to get very good, and have the confidence to try different techniques. I follow and watch painters to learn more and because I enjoy watching.
These are all awesome!! I'd add Sonic Sledgehammer to that, his UA-cam tutorials are a great way to get all kinds of minis on the table quickly
Second that.
Sonic sledgehammer is great. I also like the painting coach
I was going to throw Andy from Mediocre Hobbies out there. He is the contrast master.
Agreed, practical guides for me to strive for with an enjoyable format and delivery. Far from Mediocre, though.
@@JohanVek 100% he is a fantastic painter and makes it looks easy.
Sonic Sledge Hammer is a good help for the everyday gamer like Peachy.
I unliked this video so I could like it again, so many new Instagram and channels to follow! Thanks!
Throw Night Shift on the list for hyper-detailed armor (like in tanks and stuff, but all still useful).
Totally, he changed how I approach basing.
Shoutout to Warhipster, he's got great painting videos!!
Great rundown, Louise. What a time to be a hobbyist!
Fantastic video Louise! Thanks so much for putting this together. I honestly though I was following most of these lovely people already!
Alex Paints started his channel recently and I think he deserves a lot more love! Great sense of humor and so far has focused on helping new people learn to paint.
Hey thank you!! Big up! :)
Warhipster, Juan Hidalgo and Mediocre Hobbies are also excellent channels.
You should do part 2 of this video!
And so many others out there:
Sam Lenz - like the style and theory Vince V - very good instruction and vast array of material
Sergio Calvo - inspiration
Miniac and Ninjon - good insight
Juan Hidalgo - good techniques
Artis Opus - good style and quick results (avoiding chalky dry brush on tanks was always a challenge until i saw this)
Midwinter Minis - good fun and interesting content
Zumikito - style and array of content
I'm in the camp of getting a couple of hours every few days due to family and work. If i can't practice hard then I'll practice smart and learn what i can from these lovely folks by watching them on the train!
Eric (Eric's Hobby Workshop) is the GOAT imho - I love his stuff.
Very based guy.
We love Eric in this family
Tabletop Minions got me started in the hobby. His channel covers more than painting, but he's got a lot of good painting advice.
Great video! I really like how the mini painter content creator community interacts and collaborates with each other. One painter I only discovered recently is Kujo Painting - he really has unique videos and tutorials and his Scottish accent is even for non native speakers understandable 😉
Thank you so much for the shout out Louise
For me the one person that really opened my mind to different approaches to painting was Marco NJM. He employs classical art techniques in his mini painting and is really good at simplifying methods and making them easy to understand. One of the best
Also Zumikito!! Who doesn't love some rimming...
Josedavinci has the best tutorials by far! Improved my painting like noone else
great list. I thought I know "all" of those internet artist, yet you shared some completly new to me
Andy at Mediocre Hobbies isn't a painter's painter but I think he's very good for showing speed painting schemes for a bunch of models which can help motivate people to paint. I'm a fan
Zorpazorp’s painting tutorials during the covid period really got me back into painting again! I know he’s mainly known for his big board builds but his painting videos go under the radar 😅
Sonic Sledgehammer. Has a bunch of videos for getting stuff done.
I'd suggest Miniscape, a lovely blend between painting, discussing the history of the unit being painted, and to wrap it up a lovely song.
I still find myself singing Land Raider, raider of land every now and then.
Dave at Infernal Brush is the GOAT. Jon Ninas and Darren Latham also worth shouts out!
Fletcher on Tabletop Tactics is a great painter and when they put out a tutorial it's ALWAYS worth watching. Also Darcy Bono. She makes everything look like its achievable - I've learned a bunch
