Just scribed this is a useful video and I just got the game. But would you rec commend getting the sword and the staff along with the spells before fighting margit?
Hi, this is real testimony of a spell doctor who helped me bring back my finance, who left i and the kids for 9 month. i had lost all hope about my finance coming back home again. if you're going thr
To beginners, this guide might look easy because its 13mins long. Let me tell you, its gonna take you hours😂 But overall, its the best to actually be OP
Im 12 hours in and im still havent got all of them yet. The lazuli sword took me 30 times to redo to get it. They just wont drop the sword for me. I kept getting the robe. BUT! Im pretty much op now. For a beginner
I don't think it's too bad i did actually do most of this last night and it did take hours but part of that was testing my dmg on bosses o shouldn't be beating the dmg is really good
This is hands-down the most useful Mage build video on the entire web and I say this after seeing almost every video out there that is trying to cover this topic.
For people coming back like me, a summary: - Pick Golden Seed or Crimson Amber Medallion - Stats priority: INT (>70) > MIND > VIGOR - Buy Carian Slicer (for melee range) and Glintblade Phalanx (for some situations) from Sorceress Sellen (for the latter you could also get its AoW variant from Rogier's Rapier) - Meteorite Staff @5:33 (S scaling with INT) - Rock Sling Spell @6:48 (enhanced by the Meteorite Staff) - Get the Lone Wolves Ashes (I would also suggest another tanky summon for slower enemies, like Lhutel the Headless) - Go to Main Caria Manor Gate, farm enemies for a Lazuli Glintstone Sword - Beat Loretta for the Loretta's Greatbow Spell - Get both spells (13k Runes total) from the turtle at Church of Vows @9:20 - Get Memory Slots: 1 from Ranni's Rise @10:00 at the top of the tower; 1 from the quest at Oridys's Rise @10:09; 1 from the Converted Tower @10:18; 1 after killing the boss from Raya Lucaria Academy; and 1 from the Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable. - Get the Flask of WP and fill it by mixing the stuff shown @10:59 - Allocate more FP flasks than HP ones (I usually go with 2 or 3 HP ones, but decent players may go with no more than 1); also if you are missing Golden Seeds, I'd suggest to just roam for a bit at the top of the map (after the Dectus lift and into the capital) and you will find golden trees with more than one seed below - Tune your spirits with Roderika I'm still missing where to find good gear (all of the merchants I have found sell mostly heavy armor!), but thank you! Insta-subscribed :)
@@NizarGG You'r the man !!!! Thank you ! i was about to quit this game because of my Astrologer, you give me hope again, can't wait for the gear stuff video
Honestly that staff isnt that great the spell its for is wildly inaccurate vs anthing smaller then a literal mountain. The staff that upgrades all the moves that start with the Carian is far more useful earily. It is also in an area you can grab earily with some creative dodging and ignoring everything.
Time stamps for locations. 2:39 sorcerer for new spells 3:50 for royal house scroll 5:32 meteorite staff 7:18 -mommy- Ranni 7:57 Main Caria manor gate(extra spells+boss fight for a sword) 9:19 church of vows(extra spells) 10:01 Ranni’s rise(memory stone) 10:05 Seluvi’s rise(memory stone) 10:10 Oridy’s rise(memory stone) 10:19 converted tower(memory stone) 10:25ish, you get memory stones from twin maiden husks at round table hold, and also the first main boss after Godrick 11:10 Intelligence knot crystal tear
After you get the Meteorite staff and the spell he mentioned go to Summonwater Village! The spell melts the boat boss super fast and you get a better summon than the wolves. The skeletons you summon will reassemble if they die making them MUCH tankier than the wolves in most situations. Thanks Nizar for the best guide out there! ♥
Rock spell seems only useful against really slow targets... and I mean *really* slow. I've stood in short range of a target and cast the spell only to have the balls wander off to hit walls, the floor, and pretty much behind the target, but NOT THE TARGET which was standing right in front of me (snuck up behind it). OFC they turned around and hit me five times for bleed the moment the spell wandered by.
This guide was great to stumble upon because it gave me some good starting objectives. Now I've got a good staff, sword, 5 spell slots, and confident to just sorta explore on my own now.
I totally agree.. maybe it's my fault for not being patient, but the game wasn't that fun to me at first because I didn't really feel any sense of direction or objective, but this actually gave me some direction and then I enjoyed it a lot more
@keny8892 late response but to anyone else wondering. I can't remember specifically, but once you get a few spells going it's easy to get the meteorite staff and rock spell. maybe 2 hours of playing at most. once u have those 2 the game is easy for 15+hours. Because once you hit the first castle, there are big enemies you can sit in tunnels and spam kill for huge exp.
the ONLY downside to this build, is there are quite a few bosses you're always close up too. Where a my greatsword build kills a boss in under 60seconds. my mage might take 2 to 5minutes because you're always needing to dodge everything and make space to cast any big dmg spell. And getting 3 seconds to cast is harder said than done.
This guide is amazing. I've watched at least 5 guides for mage and none of them have said anything about memory slots, good sorceries or secondary slot so thank you
3:08 Glintstone Stars is meant for moving targets or when your character is moving, then it's very effective. Enemies seem to be baffled because they get hit from another direction than from where they see you.
Thank you so much for this guide. I’m new to souls games and couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong. I ended up finding the crystal tunnel before watching this and passed up the Meteorite staff and rock sling spell. You saved the game for me! I beat Margit the fell omen on the 4th try. Can’t stop playing now!
I’ve found the Dexterity being higher helps me cast heal faster. I’ve gotten it up to level 25 and noticed it’s about 1.5 seconds faster when I use the healing spell.
This video is absolutely AMAZING, I've seen a lot of videos on how to make the mage build but they never tell u locations and where to exactly get stuff. Love this video man I cannot thank you enough.
Because they don't want to spoil the game for you. He's is also forgetting something or don't you have to fight a mini boss to get to the lady selling the spells or ??
Quick Tip: The best summons are as follows 1) Black Knife Tiche - Very fast, dodges, hits very quickly, has magic ranged attacks, magic attacks inflict a DoT that deals massive damage. Defeat the boss in Ringleader's Evergaol in Liurnia of the Lakes. If you want something dead, summon Tiche. As long as you provide a distraction for her she can kill literally anything in short order. Her damage output is frankly a little terrifying and might make you envious. Her lethality isn't surprising seeing as she's one of the people who killed Godwyn in the backstory. 2) Fanged Imp Ashes - 2 summons, Fast, aggressive, applies Bleed status, glass cannons. Keepsake or bought from Isolated Merchant Raya Lucaria. Probably the biggest surprise on this little list, the imps are vicious little buggers. They are extremely fast and never really stop attacking. While they hit pretty hard the biggest draw is that the deal Bleed build up. Lots of it. Anything that's vulnerable to bleed they can kill in very short order even quicker then Tiche in some cases, but they die fast too. 3) Dungeater Puppet- 1 summon, Super tough, has a roar that debuffs enemy defense (even bosses) and buffs his damage, has a ranged attack with high tracking, deals bleed. Use Seluvis's Potion on the Dung Eater and bringing him 5 Starlight shards. My pick for replacing the Mimic post nerf. I think I might of actually been sleeping on this one as I didn't get it in my Spirit only run. He hits hard, nerfs enemies, and deals bleed along with being surprisingly tough. Bonus: you get to kill Dungeater in the worst way possible. What's not to love? Might actually be my #2 pick, but I need to use him more to be sure. 4) Lhutel the Headless - Extremely tough, blocks, applies Death status, Teleports, can solo most bosses but slower then 1-3. Found in the Tombsward Catacombs in the Weeping Peninsula so very early game. The tankiest summon in the game, between her hp, shield and teleporting all over you're more likely to die then she is. She does still deal solid damage just not as much as #1&2. 5) Greatshield Soldiers - 5 summons, Tough, Blocks, deals almost no damage, draws agro, great distraction. Found in Nokron, Eternal City. Pretty much a cheaper to summon discount Lhutel. Doesn't deal hardly any damage (though they can mob some slower bosses), but they are extremely durable. Good distraction for a ranged character to hide behind. Edit: Was written without any order in mind, but rearranged them to be in what I feel is their order of effectiveness. Edit 2: Dropped Mimic off the top 5. It's still decent, but it's not nearly as good as it was before. Not even in my top 10 now.
@@TheEru88 They are _nasty_ little shits. I've watched mine rip several bosses apart in a under a minute. Most notably I'll sometimes summon them for dual boss fights and let them mob one of the bosses while I deal with the other. More often then not they actually kill their target then come help me finish off mine. It's kind of frightening. I've never actually used them as a Keepsake though, that extra golden seed is just too good if you ask me, so I'm not sure how well they preform without upgrades. Once you hit the castle and get the ability to power up the spirits they will be able to help you kill most things, notably they'd probably shred Godrick like paper.
@@TheEru88 I picked them on my bandit who’s a bleed build. Using the imps with Reduvia dagger and a buffed up great dagger on many bosses has melted them.
@@dragoon3219 So I finally started my Journey yesterday had a good 5 hours and did went with Fanged Imps. They have been awesome for me, would choose them again over golden seed. Cause I had them I tried to get the used of spirit animals as soon as possible and every big fight was way easier with them. Now got Meteorite staff with Rock Sling, Carrier Slicer and Arc to finish them off. Tonight's Journey will be go North West, buy the Carian Greatsword from the big turtle then to Costa Manor. Some big fights and fun will happened til I get there.
damn dude, i wish i found this video weeks ago. the staff, gravity spells alone, that i had totally missed, are absolutely OWNING these enemies. Massive thanks so far, and i haven't even finished video yet.
This was the guide that finally unstuck my character. Had 90% of the same build but the combo of the Meteorite Staff with Rock Sling was the final piece. Thanks!

This is, BY FAR, the BEST Elden Ring Channel on UA-cam! Man. I just love your videos! Every single one that I watch i not only learn a lot but also have too much fun! Congrats!!! /clap!
Absolutely a fantastic guide for the mage, the best guide by far i have watched also your content is very enjoyable and thanks for all the info I will put it to good use :)
It is helpful for beginners…however I’m kind of worried.. I just picked up all these extra spells (I’ve had rock sling since the beginning) in hopes that I’ll find a more damaging one…and still…my rock sling does more damage than all of them. Rock sling is still more effective, stronger, and can cast faster than lorettas at its full charge. I’m baffled… rock sling was the first spell I learned.. when the hell am I Gunna get a video of spells you can’t pick up the second you start the game
Missed Rock fling when I originally picked up my meteorite staff. Making my way to 52 int to swap out of the meteorite staff as it’s still my best one. Used it quite effectively to body a boss I was struggling with. Moonveil as a weapon is probably gonna be best in slot for any mage. The weapon arts staggers bosses so fast and just does a shit ton of damage. Especially since it’s magic damage you can buff it with your flask and Terra spell for even more damage
New video is out my fellow mages, 12 things you'll want to start doing as soon as possible: ua-cam.com/video/p6cj-ynhgZc/v-deo.html Don't miss out on it! It's another way to make you stronger/give you better experiences in this great game.
this is THE BEST mage guide on youtube. direct and great tips. amazing. you saved me from getting bored of mage on such a great game. 30 hours into it and using plinstone and carrion slicer since start. wth demi god staff.
Check out carian knight armor set if you need a good armor set early for a mage, Meteorite staff (gives bonus damage to gravity spells/cannot be upgraded) is a lot better then demi-human witch queen staff for early game, until you have witch queen upgraded a ton to surpass it. combine it with rock sling (its a gravity spell) is how i killed 90% of all bigger sized bosses early-mid game it hits like a tank and knocks most things to the ground in a few casts.
As a mage you want to immediate get rock sling and the meteor staff. Also go to the sleeping dragon and kill it. Try to get yourself to 12 strength, 18 dexterity, and as much intelligence as possible from those points. Then go into all the mines you can and kill the bosses with rock sling.

I was against int built because I thought it was throwing little magic missiles, this video has truly opened my eyes, I was locked in the second I saw a giant magic sword
Usefull tip for every (post lucaria) sorc: there is an item for your wondrous flask called Cerulean Hidden Tear that you can get from an erdtree miniboss next to Volcano Mannor that removes all fp cost from everything for about 10s Casting meteors or kamehameha was and still is absurdly fun after using that
Pls tell me how to get there... I’ve tried everything and literally everywhere (well obviously not everywhere else I’d have found it by now) ... I need detailed instructions cuz no one else out there can offer proper directions. Thank you!
MUST READ!!!Please get this sword if you like doing both melee and magic!!!The best magic infused straight sword with low stat requirements is the Carian Knight’s Sword (10s10d18int). Located just south of the NORTHERN LIURNIA LAKE SHORE site of grace on the west side of the lake on the skinny road on the edge of the map. It’s in one of those giant drawn carriages traveling up the road, I didn’t need to kill or stop those giants to get it either, I know for some of them they need to stop pulling to open the chest, maybe it was glitched, but worth a shot. I leveled it up to +4, you can buy all the upgrades, somber smithing stones, from Iji the blacksmith. He’s at the next closest site of grace to the north, ROAD TO THE MANOR. This weapon out damages my +6 rapier, +6 uchi, and + 6 flail at 30dex/30int. It’s a beast. Also has one of the coolest ashes of war Carian Grandeur. It’s a giant overhead magic sword slam that you can charge up 3 levels to create a huuuuge sword. Pretty cool. Also GET THE BEAST REPELLENT TORCH. Rats, animals, and beasts do NOT attack you when you are carrying it, only if you attack them first. Sold at the Isolated Merchant’s Shack in Dragonborrow. Just don’t go at night, you’ll die, almost instantly, don’t want to spoil it, but yea wasn’t good. The site of grace is close to the northern coast of Dragonborrow just southeast of a little peninsula east of the minor Erdtree Caelid. You can buy it from him for a couple thousand runes. It’s a must have. Also did you know you can still sprint while crouching? I mean it’s not like you’re going fast, but it’s at least double the regular crouch walking speed.
@@UncleReamus Np, thanks for updating. Fortunately I finally got the sword drop. I get the impression most of the guides were written within a few days of it coming out tbh :/.
glinstone arc def helps with these mini bosses that move quick, much harder for them to dodge it. Also the Crystal sword is great and scaled with INT as well, and much easier to get as its just on a body you can loot, plus looks awesome. Great video, i need to get that bow!
Try the carian knights sword, you can just loot it from a chest if you run there right at the start of the game as well, with some artful dodging i mean and is a better sword for a "spellblade" build. Also is has a very cool but ultimately kind of useless skill on it called Carian grandeur where it turns into a giant spectral greatsword for a big ground slam attack.
Just look at the sorcery scaling if you want to see which staves are better than the other, it’s like the spell buff stat in the DS series. Also, a much better weapon for early mages is Rogier’s rapier, which you can get in the roundtable hold. He claims he’s no longer able to fight after you find him in a church in Stormveil Castle and beat Godrick, and he gives you his +8 Rapier. At the start of the game. Great for starting mages with a small dex investment.
Small adjustment to your comment, you can talk to him and get the rapier on the balcony only after killing Godric not just Margit (I know it isn't exactly what you said but there's space for misinterpretation). Good luck everyone :) !
@@donut132 worth noting if you use a rune arc with godricks rune you get +5 to all stats so you can use the rapier with less investment. The rapier is a great choice as it comes with a cheap weapon art spell and the poke stuns enemies really nicely, plus you have the glintblade for sweeping attacks. Also, Dex is never a waste for a caster as it improves casting speed. Ideally you want 20 Dex plus the casting speed talisman to reach the cap, so may as well put a few in early.
@@deskslam4232 crappy pvp? 18 dex is needed to wield a few good intelligence weapons like the moonveil katana and rogiers rapier. The pvp is really fun if you're invading, beating 3 people feels so good. Not to mention right now is the best time before there's a meta.
Glitterstone Stars is immensely useful early game. The games is lower for higher focus, yes, BUT the spell tracks like crazy and drains stamina. You can cast it from horseback almost not looking back and a lot of nimble enemies won't dodge it, or won't dodge it fully. And you can charge it for more damage, so in some fights it is both useful and does decent damage.
@@johnnyzen4282 Yeah, exactly! It tracks them and then hits them so hard it almost always breaks their poise (if charged) in one hit and with good Int and staff it can one-shot them. On my Sorcerer I used it extensively well into late game, even if other similar spells (Stars of Ruins) dealt more damage because it is much quicker and you can chain-stagger some otherwise troublesome enemies into death.
I cant suggest carian slicer enough for early game, its damage is crazy and its fp cost is crazy small. Also rock slling, is super good (if using meteorite staff especially to boost its damage) it tears bigger sized bosses apart because none of the 3 projectiles can miss a truck sized enemy.
nobody is saying that mage is weak or anything like that.... instead people are saying that elder ring is only made for mages....melee classes are made to suck in this game.. even the best one handed sword in the game needs intelligence and faith ..... stats. This game right now only favors mages. This f game is made for spell casters classes and i find thisa huge slap in the face from the developers ... why even show in game trailer warriors classes witrh armor, if the game is made only for mages... the wepons everything is for mages. if you want to play a strength class then forget powerful weapons or defence...
@@tanelviil9149 I see your point but out of all the people I know who play this game, streamers, and youtubers I’ve seen, Only like 3 played mage, everyone else I watched or knew, played as a warrior, I think you only looking at how good mate is compared to physical instead of just focused on how good physical can be on its own
@@Antagonist115 No my point is that all the best wepons in the game need MAGE CLASS stats in order to equip them. Do you know what this means ? It means that a warrior who doesn't want intelligence stats or faith stats ... needs to invest in those if the warrior wants to equip a Katana or the best one handed sword in the game. And even 2 handed swords need dexterity. But if you play for example a huge armor class , shield, heavy armor and weapon... then stats like dexterity and intelligence are a waste, but you have to take them if you want to equip the better weapons... do you get my point now ??? In short warriors have to sacrifice some leveling stats to INTELLIGENCE, FAITH or DEXTERITY ... while a MAGE class doesn't have to, because intelligence, faith... stats like that are already useful to a mage. Example the best one handed sword in the game needs 24 intelligence and 24 faith stats if you want to equip it. But if I play a warrior tank class with a shield then ... leveling intelligence to 24 and faith to 24 is already a HUGE WASTE... because i need stats in Strength, and Endurance and Vigor to make the tank even work. .... in short the game is not balanced... it favors mage based game play and hopping around ---- and not much shield and block based game play ...
The only thing I wish they did for mages, is allow us to set spells to specific buttons since we don't really have a strong attack or ash of war for the staffs. It would be nice to not have to cycle through spells while being charged. I guess that's part of the challenge for us.
You actually can change the button layout in settings . I personally changed the attack buttons to match Ghost of Tsushima b/c I was heavily playing that game before Elden ring .
@@ThinkingCap_ Here's an idea for reddit: Give mages an FP regeneration ability. Archers get stamina that regenerates fast, Melee doesn't have to worry about a resource, mages are fucked because FP does not regen, and does not scale well at all.
You can go back to your first spell by holding down the UP button. It's not perfect, but it's there. Can also do this with your equipped items with the DOWN button 🙂
I feel like you should mention the fact that you completely lock out Sorcerer Rogier questline if you talk to Witch Ranni in her tower before he asks you to find her
@@jimmybay4743 If I recall its 12 strength to wield it so you will have to put in a few stat points or get a talisman that gives +3 strength to use it.

*slow clap* well.freakin’.done. This guide is pure value concentrated and flawlessly stitched together. Incredible editing. Thanks a lot for this helpful guide.
The only thing I would change up is to make sure you get the summon wolves from Ranni BEFORE you try to open the magic shop. In order to open up the sorcery NPC's shop you have to fight and beat the mad pumpkinhead boss, and having those wolves to distract him is a life saver for someone with pure mage build.
I ended up not using magic at all and stayed on my horse with the short sword, you just have to switch the weapon slots before going in and definitely grind out some vigor off the giants pulling the black cart on the road going towards the cellar!
@@ItsAustinSea not for the boss variant you can't. You cant summon your horse inside of caves or in buildings. The pumpkinhead you can fight on horseback is the one on the -bridge-. That's not the boss. The Mad Pumpkinhead Boss is in the crypt underneath the waypoint ruins. You cant summon your horse inside the crypt.
I wish I’d watched this video much, much earlier. I’m now over 40 hours into the game and although I got the meteorite staff I was mostly just relying on Carian Slicer and Swift Glintstone Pebble (the double-speed version of the starter glintstone pebble) and basically not really being an effective sorcerer at all. If I’d used this video to guide me from the start what a difference the past 40 hours of play time would have had!
I love this build! Thanks for this video. I tried making other builds and messed them up. Restarted the game 4 times...but this is what Ive been looking for! Thank you!
Great puremage guide, If anyone is like me and rolling spellblade though Id suggest grabbing the Carian Knights sword for any new spellblade builds, you can run to where its at and loot it right from the start of the game making it like the best spellblade melee weapon to get right away, combine that with meteorite staff and your golden. That being said id also check out the carian knights armor too as you can also get the full set with no combat right from the start.
I did after 30 hours aswell 🤣 thing is without being big headed once you’ve killed a boss once after 1000 deaths, they are easy the second time round! So my 30 hours first play through is like 3 hours now to get to where I was before 🤣
I recommend any new player to follow a build guide that is similar to this and caters to your character. I’ve just been focusing on building and leveling up my Astrologer and now I’m pretty OP for the early game. I’ve been breezing through the early bosses.
I just wanna say that this has been so helpful for me! When I started I had never played a souls game before and I had no idea what I was doing!! With your help I just killed Radahn on my second attempt!! Great video!!
I appreciate the time you took to make this video! I ended up with a melee character because i wasnt getting much magic stuff just playing casually. My 2nd play-through i will definitely try a mage build and will refer to this video!
At around 2:40 when he was saying how Sellen’s starting spells suck, he subtly turned the spell icons in the background from blue to red just to emphasize “don’t buy”. Top notch production as well as very useful, well presented information. How come I never found this channel before?
I’m level 75 and I didn’t know that you could upgrade the wolves. Mine were being killed in 2 swings and was thinking that they were just outleveled this much into the game. Also, didn’t know about the Carian Longsword and the intelligence tear! HUGE help, thanks!!
There is so much content in such a short time, this is still hours of gameplay before we even start playing! I love it so much and thank you for the amazing video!
@@jrag1000 I'm lvl 42, but I've been grinding giants and this gear from this video as an astrologist, I just beat the boss at the castle, not godwin but the wizard guy!
This and the follow up are really helpful. My friend tried to talk me out of starting the game as a mage, and while I've definitely run into issues (like running out of FP and flask uses midway through exploring Stormveil Castle) this guide has really set me up to feel solid. I'm still under level 40 but I've gotten to Raya Lucaria and passed the first boss, so progress is swift!
You’re absolutely correct about the spells you can purchase from Sellen. Went through and bought them one by one today and was extremely disappointed by their damage output, and I ended up just switching back to the two starting spells…
There's an upgraded version of the regular pebble spell...that essentially let's you cast it even faster and has a better damage/mp consumption ratio. But...it's basically the same thing. I only ever use the pebble and sometimes the bow if I know i can waste mana and not run out before something dies
@@Hawthorne2 There is also a frost version of the pebble which i really like. It also cases frost buildup on enemies. Aswell as a Frost version of the carian greatsword that also shoots out beams of frost.
@@MeldinX2 Wow idk how I missed that 90hrs into the game! Just discovered dragon magic today too on a secondary faith character. Crazy how much there is to explore and find
This has reassured my want to continue playing my mage build. I have it pretty high considering I’ve only been playing it for an hour. I was just struggling to find new spells that are better
Fantastic guide Nizar! I love binge watching your guide videos to get huge starts in my play throughs. Just wanna add two more personal tips that could boost new players starts even further. 1.) head far south of limgrave after meeting the witch to go to the weeping peninsula, straight across the church near the wooden bridge there is a hidden dungeon that gives you the legendary spirit summon Lhuthel, a god-tier summon that can be achieved very early and easily 2. If you want an alternative physick option over the opaline bubble tear, you can head towards the minor erdtree in the north-east of Liurnia (it’s a long drive so buckle your seatbelts) and slay the erdtree guardian there. Not only will you get the the cracked magic tear which boosts your magic damage quite a lot for a while. you will also get the lightning and holy tears, worthwhile for faith users too 3.) *an extra tip for getting this far* head a little farther past the magic breathing dragon in liurnia and you’ll encounter a fog wall needing a stone key, if you successfully beat the boss of the cave (no spoilers here) you can ride a lift taking you to the top of the academy granting your the “Terra Magica” spell which creates a zone that boosts your sorceries by 35% when cast inside it. Have fun and good luck!
Been playing Astrologer and I knew a lot of this already. It's honestly nice to hear I'm not the only one who has been liking being a mage. It can be tough but honestly it's so OP and really fun. I never played as a mage in the others so maybe that's why I don't get it, but damn I love this game and being a mage. Havn't had this much fun since I first got BO2 as a kid
And all the dark soul games made always started off slow but ended up becoming practically OP later on the only bosses that ever gave me any trouble in all of the souls games were the ones that were just incredibly fast It's like they didn't even want to give you time to cast. So I'm assuming an elder ring is going to be the same It's going to be a really slow start but as our bill starts to come together we start to feel practically broken against everything but super fast bosses. The only bill that has ever felt more OP than a pure sorcerer was the pyromancer to me but I don't know if there is a pyromancer in elden ring.
I started following this guide when starting my second play through (didn’t get far in the first play through and that was 2 months ago) but I’m 12 hours in now still watching this video. And I gotta say it’s so much fun to follow. It feels like a quest line when following this guide slowly. I’m so OP early game and it’s so much fun to switch it up. Good ass mf video right here
I’d also recommend picking the meteoric ore blade right after the meteoric staff. Same exact area and a better sword that will carry you to mid/end game.
I am at 70int but a couple things, I like to have my strength at 10 so I can use a 100% block shield in my offhand , would also recommend some points in endurance so you can wear some armor as well, also for my flask I like to mix the int boost with the no mana cost so when you use it you can just unlimitedly spam rock throw. For summons I recommend the dual skeleton one you get from the boat boss since they self revive after being killed, so you will always have something tanking for you even if they die
The skeletons are shit, if they both die (which will happen often because they're made out of paper), you better pray the enemies don't hit them by accident otherwise you'll lose them. Get and upgrade something like Oleg or Luthel who can tank entire fights for you without dying. Skellies will only last for the early early game.
Honestly everything in this guide is still pretty valid for earl gameplay I usually run a strength build and this really helped me get my mage build stronger really fast
Awesome. Thank you so much! I’m going to start the game today and since I got 2 kids and not much time I need something That is very strong to get through and see the whole game. Thanks a lot!
"If you explore a bit" in the Waypoint Ruins Cellar, you'll get locked in with a boss that you have to defeat before you get to the NPC. I wasnt sure if the yellow mist guarantees it being a boss, but I'm guessing so now. The video could also show how to get to certain locations that you point to on the map, or just cut to when you arrive, because it's not always straight forward, like in the Caria Manor, you said 'northern part' but it's specifically North East. And getting there took quite a few attempts. Getting to Caria Manor in general was a challenge. Good list of items. But would have appreciated more detail on several parts, so I combined your video with others to find a few of the items.
Interesting note: A Longsword with an Ash of War granting Magic Affinity is stronger and quite a bit more versatile than the Lazuli Glintstone Sword, due to having a much wider variety of Ash of War options, instead of just Pebble. Plus it's easier to get, as you don't need to farm mobs for it; just buy it from the Twins vendor in the Roundtable Hold. You need to get the Glintstone Whetblade from Raya Lucaria Academy for Magic Affinity (and its excellent INT scaling), though that's quite easy: The Whetblade is looted off a corpse that is hanging off the window ledge of an office balcony. From the fountain of the academy's courtyard, go left, and head up the slope of broken stairs. The room is guarded by three sorcerers, with one hiding inside. You can get to the Academy in the early game by bypassing Stormveil Castle using the cliffs to the east, grab the Glintstone Key from behind the dragon to the west of the Academy itself, and then you're in.
@@rubentorres8433 Longsword actually weighs the same as Lazuli Glintstone Sword: 3.5. You'd *think* it would be lighter, given that it's made of wood *and* it's shorter... But apparently not.
Hey sorry for the noob question. I just got the magic Longsword and noticed that the base Magic Attack Power on the Lazuli sword is still higher than the magic Longsword. Wouldn't this mean that the Lazuli sword is still stronger in terms of stats? Longsword has 78 Magic attack and Lazuli has 94 (both haven't been upgraded at all)
super helpful info, you have a gift my man. can't wait for more content on when to go where and get what, i am new to soulsborne and knowing when not to engage helps make the game feel less like I am the worst gamer ever
This is a really nice guide, i just want to cut it down "a bit" for people who simply want a good start: Choose wretch, just run and get the Meteorite Staff and Stone Fling, go to the shack in northern Limgrave and easily kill the 3-4 giants with Stone Fling. Rinse and repeat -> many, many runes -> level up int (and some vigor/mind) quickly and buy all the starter stuff you want 😁 P.S.: You should get at least the glintstone single spell(s) quickly, because while Stone Fling does a ton of damage it's not good for "normal" enemies. Edit: Ok, i effed up a bit. It was a while ago and i forgot you need 18 int for the staff and spell. So i guess Astrologer with 16 int and the two spells is a "bit" easier 😅
Without a doubt don’t get the health talisman. The amount of health is so small it’s barely noticeable and more often then not will never be enough to save your life. You’re better off being able to heal or replenish fp an extra time with the golden seed, especially since fp allows for aggressive play while healing keeps you alive, verse negligible bonus health that isn’t enough to make a difference.
Early game you 100 percent notice the difference, the golden seed isn't worth it, right from the rip unless you're heavily dependant on healing yourself.. If you're struggling that much with health in early game, you obviously aren't utilizing your movements properly, - Or go buy a seal and buy the hp incantation. Glintstone arc trashes mobs within seconds early game, as does pebblestone if you're switching targets. The only struggle you'll really have is against certain bosses with charges. I don't think you truly realize how much flasks will just screw you in situations situations a mage, stack your crimson amber medallion with your radagons Scarseal and you're laughing. You 100 percent don't need that seed.
@@1980sBoy if we're going early game, I mean you don't need keys you can buy them, every other item is basically Craftable or obtainable anyways, but the seed is a stupid choice unless you're new to these games
@@kryptallics2111 Honestly, I wouldn't take the Crimson Amber Medallion just because I'd rather take a Stonesword Key and go grab Erdtree's Favor... I do agree with everything else you said though.
@@kryptallics2111 you're looking at it from the standpoint that seed only represents another health flask, it doesn't. it can be another mana flask you can use early game. technically none of the keepsakes are all that important as the player is given plenty of tools throughout the start in order to compensate for the keepsakes they didnt choose but the golden seed is going to be the most impactful even if only for an hour or two while you grab all the other seeds you can at the start
hey man before this video and elden ring in general I was pretty busy with bg3 and watched your warlock build and to be honest didn't quite like it but this guide is so much better and even despite the fact that elden ring is a harder game compared to bg3 this guide really put me on course. thanks for the effort 👌
My magic is level 8 with travelers outfit, metor stuff, rocks lingerie, and a Lazuli glintstone sword. It's dope and I'm having a great time with my first mage.
I would recommend as a keepsake starting out getting the fanged imps. Way better than the wolves in my opinion. They cause bleed and generally last a bit longer tanking bosses for you. Also, Carian Knight Sword and Moonveil Katana are good choices for early/mid game swords as they also scale with int. The Mooveil in particular, with a C rating.
This guide is a GREAT framework, but I will tell you right now that you should expect enemies to out maneuver at every single location AND use some sort of comprehensive website guide to help you find these specific items and locations. For example, theres the pumpkin head boss before the sorceries shop lady. He’s easier to beat with the meteor spell. to get to the Manor, you should navigate the swamp along the west coast, then there’s ruins that have an illusion wall that you can walk through after getting off torrent. The sword is a farmable drop, so you’ll have to do it over and over again. He definitely grazes over a lot of information that beginners would have no idea. Great job nonetheless. Cheers.

This is hands-down the most useful Mage build video on the entire web and I say this after seeing almost every video out there that is trying to cover this topic.
yes, best
Facts
You‘re right
I agree
Best mage video build. I got question. What is the best body armour and suit that astrologer can use? Does it matter?
For people coming back like me, a summary:
- Pick Golden Seed or Crimson Amber Medallion
- Stats priority: INT (>70) > MIND > VIGOR
- Buy Carian Slicer (for melee range) and Glintblade Phalanx (for some situations) from Sorceress Sellen (for the latter you could also get its AoW variant from Rogier's Rapier)
- Meteorite Staff @5:33 (S scaling with INT)
- Rock Sling Spell @6:48 (enhanced by the Meteorite Staff)
- Get the Lone Wolves Ashes (I would also suggest another tanky summon for slower enemies, like Lhutel the Headless)
- Go to Main Caria Manor Gate, farm enemies for a Lazuli Glintstone Sword
- Beat Loretta for the Loretta's Greatbow Spell
- Get both spells (13k Runes total) from the turtle at Church of Vows @9:20
- Get Memory Slots: 1 from Ranni's Rise @10:00 at the top of the tower; 1 from the quest at Oridys's Rise @10:09; 1 from the Converted Tower @10:18; 1 after killing the boss from Raya Lucaria Academy; and 1 from the Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable.
- Get the Flask of WP and fill it by mixing the stuff shown @10:59
- Allocate more FP flasks than HP ones (I usually go with 2 or 3 HP ones, but decent players may go with no more than 1); also if you are missing Golden Seeds, I'd suggest to just roam for a bit at the top of the map (after the Dectus lift and into the capital) and you will find golden trees with more than one seed below
- Tune your spirits with Roderika
I'm still missing where to find good gear (all of the merchants I have found sell mostly heavy armor!), but thank you! Insta-subscribed :)

Thanks for this! Giving it a try now.
OFC they turned around and hit me five times for bleed the moment the spell wandered by.
what spell are u talking about that melts

This guide was great to stumble upon because it gave me some good starting objectives. Now I've got a good staff, sword, 5 spell slots, and confident to just sorta explore on my own now.
how many of these things mentioned in the vid, you are able to do from the very start ?
I agree it's better to use white being mounted and trying to distance yourself from an enemy
Useful against invaders
Thank you so much for this guide. I’m new to souls games and couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong. Got the game a week ago. 50 hours in, level 73, and have made more progress than I thought would have been possible. Thanks for the concise info!
This is the first useful guide for a mage build. And if watched a few already. Thanks.
Quick Tip: The best summons are as follows
1) Black Knife Tiche - Very fast, dodges, hits very quickly, has magic ranged attacks, magic attacks inflict a DoT that deals massive damage.
Thanks for this!!
Thank you for this. I heard about those fanged imp ashes and was thinking of starting with that instead of golden seed. What do you think?

May consider it, having a terrible time getting the sword in the vid, thanks.
@@_anon464 I wrote this probably the day it came out. Do not go by this, I was high on Elden Ring
@@UncleReamus Np, thanks for updating. Fortunately I finally got the sword drop. I get the impression most of the guides were written within a few days of it coming out tbh :/.
@@_anon464same. Been at it 2 hrs, I’m about to give up.
glinstone arc def helps with these mini bosses that move quick, much harder for them to dodge it.
@@ZedNull. carian grandeur is pretty good. I've knocked down some pretty big knights using it.
Most definitely one of the most helpful guides I’ve seen yet this method was gamechanging for me
Just look at the sorcery scaling if you want to see which staves are better than the other, it’s like the spell buff stat in the DS series.
Good luck everyone :) !
small? isnt it like 18 dex>?
@@donut132 that isn’t much, unless you want to slog through the crappy pvp.

Its really good at hitting the annoying Hawks in Stromveil Castle. God I hated trying to fight those things with my first melee character 🤣
BEST Astrologer guide, I didn’t know about a lot of these spells
I cant suggest carian slicer enough for early game, its damage is crazy and its fp cost is crazy small. Also rock slling, is super good (if using meteorite staff especially to boost its damage) it tears bigger sized bosses apart because none of the 3 projectiles can miss a truck sized enemy.
@@ZedNull. I love it but it needs A LOT of positioning because if the rocks hit anything in the way before the enemy they disappear.
nobody is saying that mage is weak or anything like that.... instead people are saying that elder ring is only made for mages....melee classes are made to suck in this game.. even the best one
handed sword in the game needs intelligence and faith .....
For instance on Playstation, it would be cool to set a spell to L1 another to L2 and another to R2 and then have your r1 for cycling the other spells.
@@krock2894 fully agree, put this suggestion on reddit :)
I feel like you should mention the fact that you completely lock out Sorcerer Rogier questline if you talk to Witch Ranni in her tower before he asks you to find her
He doesn't really have a questline though. He's really just some minor exposition once you start black knives.
playing fast and loose with the word ''questline'' there, mate :D
For the melee weapon I recommend moonveil, it has an ash of war that comes out real fast and scales with INT too.
You need 18 Dex tho, that's quite an investment 🤔
@@LuckyLazyGamer investing in Dex also gives you faster cast time. Definitely worth it

@@rydermoy3983 for mad pumpkinhead? You can't use the horse for that boss fight. It's underground.

Swift Glintstone is pretty good on horseback as I find I can circle an enemy and fire without slowing down.
Im 30 hours in and i love the game but im kinda stuck on sellens quest she dont want to talk
Best mage vid I’ve seen so far I almost feel like restarting my mage to get all this earlier 😂
I did after 30 hours aswell 🤣 thing is without being big headed once you’ve killed a boss once after 1000 deaths, they are easy the second time round! So my 30 hours first play through is like 3 hours now to get to where I was before 🤣
Literally everything I was looking for. No BS just right to the point with great explanations. Thanks, my dude!!
Thanks for this wonderful guide. Been wanting a good way to start a magic class and by the look of it, it is worth doing.
I had no idea about upgrading summons either lol
There is so much content in such a short time, this is still hours of gameplay before we even start playing! I love it so much and thank you for the amazing video!
How far are you in the game? What level?
@@jrag1000 I'm lvl 42, but I've been grinding giants and this gear from this video as an astrologist, I just beat the boss at the castle, not godwin but the wizard guy!

This and the follow up are really helpful. My friend tried to talk me out of starting the game as a mage, and while I've definitely run into issues (like running out of FP and flask uses midway through exploring Stormveil Castle) this guide has really set me up to feel solid. I'm still under level 40 but I've gotten to Raya Lucaria and passed the first boss, so progress is swift!
Can't get passed the knight boss, my rock slings Don't have as much homing as his does in the vid-
You’re absolutely correct about the spells you can purchase from Sellen.

Fantastic guide Nizar! I love binge watching your guide videos to get huge starts in my play throughs. Just wanna add two more personal tips that could boost new players starts even further.
1.) head far south of limgrave after meeting the witch to go to the weeping peninsula, straight across the church near the wooden bridge there is a hidden dungeon that gives you the legendary spirit summon Lhuthel, a god-tier summon that can be achieved very early and easily
2. If you want an alternative physick option over the opaline bubble tear, you can head towards the minor erdtree in the north-east of Liurnia (it’s a long drive so buckle your seatbelts) and slay the erdtree guardian there. Not only will you get the the cracked magic tear which boosts your magic damage quite a lot for a while. you will also get the lightning and holy tears, worthwhile for faith users too
3.) *an extra tip for getting this far* head a little farther past the magic breathing dragon in liurnia and you’ll encounter a fog wall needing a stone key, if you successfully beat the boss of the cave (no spoilers here) you can ride a lift taking you to the top of the academy granting your the “Terra Magica” spell which creates a zone that boosts your sorceries by 35% when cast inside it.
Would you use this blade with a mage?
@@vekta3255 absolutely. Only better sword is Moonveil
For summons I recommend the dual skeleton one you get from the boat boss since they self revive after being killed, so you will always have something tanking for you even if they die
where did you find those awesome boosts?
Name of the item to mixed in the physick?
@@MrAkicool Cerulean Hidden Tear
The skeletons are shit, if they both die (which will happen often because they're made out of paper), you better pray the enemies don't hit them by accident otherwise you'll lose them. Get and upgrade something like Oleg or Luthel who can tank entire fights for you without dying. Skellies will only last for the early early game.

You need to get the Glintstone Whetblade from Raya Lucaria Academy for Magic Affinity (and its excellent INT scaling), though that's quite easy:
The Whetblade is looted off a corpse that is hanging off the window ledge of an office balcony.
Besides being powerful, Lazuli sword is also very lightweight. Early game mage with meteorite staff gets heavy quick.
@@rubentorres8433 Longsword actually weighs the same as Lazuli Glintstone Sword: 3.5.

Hey sorry for the noob question. I just got the magic Longsword and noticed that the base Magic Attack Power on the Lazuli sword is still higher than the magic Longsword. This is a really nice guide, i just want to cut it down "a bit" for people who simply want a good start:
Choose wretch, just run and get the Meteorite Staff and Stone Fling, go to the shack in northern Limgrave and easily kill the 3-4 giants with Stone Fling.
Rinse and repeat -> many, many runes -> level up int (and some vigor/mind) quickly and buy all the starter stuff you want 😁
P.S.: You should get at least the glintstone single spell(s) quickly, because while Stone Fling does a ton of damage it's not good for "normal" enemies.
Best mage guide I’ve seen, can’t wait for the late game build
Cheers.
