Ambulance is a new 2022 action movie from Filmento's biggest enemy/friend Michael Bay. A lot of negativity has been said about his Transformers movies here, but Ambulance is a return to form for him as well as a great showcase of his biggest strength: Bayhem. And that's not just explosions -- there is something about Michael Bay that allows him to pack his movies with incredible action if he only cares enough to try. And so today let's dive into what Bayhem means and how to use it in our own action scripts.

I'm a big Marvel fan and I do think Marvel fatigue is setting in: too many TV shows and a lacklustre movie (Eternals) is wearing people down.
      SPOILERS
Doctor Strange 2 was pretty good but a lot of female friends are really upset at the treatment of Wanda following on from WandaVision. Strange 2 is somewhat tone deaf as to the development of one of the few actually developed female superheroes.
Plus the tragedy of Stephen coming to terms with never getting with Christine in any reality is hugely undercut by the coda at the end with Clea. Its hamfisted.
Still, it was a wild ride and was a fun movie. But compared to No Way Home, it just doesn't cut the mustard.

I think if Johnson had been asked to make any standalone story in the star wars universe, he's have been able to come up with an exciting story that is his unique style, that is still recognisably star wars. He just wasn't a good fit for a penultimate story of a megasaga. I never liked bayformers much... it misses half the excitement of robots in disguise. So glad to see him making something more him

It’s a shame that this film didn’t make all that much money at the box office, thanks to the studio stupidly releasing it alongside Sonic The Hedgehog 2. That just makes Bay think that him giving a rip isn’t worth it, as when he does, his films don’t achieve commercial success.

Practical effects are god tier. Watching the CGI (often noticeable) in action films makes them so dull but when you go back to the 80s action films seeing real shit getting destroyed is so satisfactory and the same applies to Bay doing his own thing with real stuff, it makes things way more impressive than whatever CGI can do.

My biggest problem with the majority of Bay’s films, is that his idea of witty character banter, and humor in general, is to just have his characters yell and argue with each other. No matter what tone Bay seems to be going for overall, he’ll always come back to his characters insulting and bitching at one another. It gets so annoying to me. A character will be introduced with some kind of quirk or weird physical attribute, and another character will point it out, and that’s super hilarious to him. When you notice it (and I did years and years ago) it’s hard not to see it’s prevalent in almost all of his films. I don’t know if the scripts for his films are like that, or if that’s just Bay telling his actors to just argue.

Surely, this is a great movie from a technical point: all shots are great, angles perfect, drone cams are providing exotic and fun angles, lack of CGI is super appreciated... Yeah, we could say that Bay did great with such a low budget. But man, plot of the movie is so unserious to itself... It's a theatre of absurdity every one of ten minutes, being so silly, it actually doesn't just lighten the mood, but completely destroys it for no reason. Don't want to sound like a hater though, Bay had done some movies that were much worse, and Ambulance is not a bad movie by any means. But still, it has a lot of things, that bring it down from being a great one
