Based on the hints in today's video, expecting a nice big garden and a greenhouse in the patch being cleared by cutting Apple trees. Anyone else anticipating the same.....
That's what I think to, looking forward to seeing it ,lots of jobs done so far though.
He plans on replanting a orchard area. I can see more than apple's, peaches ,pears. And have see abt garden area we havent seen if has anything now. Has chicken /greenhouse. I see a nothing shed put mule and tractor in or snow plow off truck. Either way it will make there homestead more efficient raise stuff for family or friends. I can also see maybe him raising a cow for beef down the road. So dont have keep buying there beef all time.
Alq has said several times that they are replanting the Apple orchard.
Is there any way we can get the recipe for the meat sauce and lazagna? Thank you in advance ! ✌❤🙏
and dont forget the beehives to pollinate the fruit trees and feed the bees flower nectar for the honey production
It's so cute the way Liv plays with you in her pretend store.
Only problem is that Al pays the #10 or $5 and says keep the change...no change if only a $5 or $10 dollar bill. No tips...poor Olivia lol
@@dollyc4314 she just says how much the total is. He doesn't say what bill he gives her. He could have given her a 20, lol.
Good have two racks, one low for the hats and backpacks, and higher for coats. 6:10 and the south view horizon is pinking under a blue band. Dead grass under the scraped snow, glad to see anything but white! Good thing the Calico girls are widow sitting; they saw a fox several days ago. Deer are old hat!! Thank you for your work that is a vicarious enjoyment for us viewers!
I just started watching a few weeks ago and love your channel. I have been binge watching every day........your relationship with Olivia and your animals is precious!!
Couldn’t help but smile when you hung that water bottle on the peg, Mrs. Gina’s smile and small smirk was just to much.
Question is did she punch you off camera? 🤣
We want to see a before and after of the Basement !!!
Guys just wanted y'all to know how much my wife and I enjoy watching, I watch in the morning with my coffee and my wife watches in the evening keep the projects and videos coming :)
I love watching your channel because you let the animals be themselves. Little Pea likes to jump in the feeder, CWC liked to free roam. I love their personalities!
Susan Delong - It's Little P short for Little Puzzle.
Absolutely enjoyed the little "teasing" moment with Al hanging odds and ends on Gina's new hanging racks LOL....I sure enjoyed the little "cheek smack" with "LOVE YA".....so warm and fun too.... Would love to see a little more of that once in awhile. Shows LOVE is always the fabric that keeps a HAPPY HOME. You both look great together and I smile always when you are joking / kidding around with each other. It's not always about the Goats LOL.....
Enjoyed this video very much this morning. THanks so much...Your Homestead is GORGEOUS with the new snow fall.....and your sunsets and rises are breath taking at times.. I'd trade sunny Central Florida for some weeks up there with snow. Originally from Niagara Falls. I miss the snow even after 51 yrs in Florida. I graduated from college upstate NY..then moved down and found Love and homesteading on small scale...but its been 20 yrs or so now...RETIRED and viewing your wonderful videos. Great memories of having Goats / chickens / rabbits / turkeys and pigs. Lots of gardening all natural no pesticides even in Fl. I made my own...out of edible ingredients....worked so well.
Congrats on your Homestead....surely enjoy watching it progress.
Ken
Orlando, Fl
JacobsOompa - Can you share your natural pesticides?
@@tonygrimes13 Sure I can Tony...I need a break right now for a bit, but will get back with you. Ken
Yes, they had me laughing too, if Al had done that before, Gina could have added more oomph in hitting the pegs!
@@tonygrimes13 Morning Tony...sorry for the delay.....here is my take on homemade pesticide....it has always worked very well for me here in Central Florida...we have more than Our share of bugs / pests the likes.
I take a container that has a lid such as a plastic container about gallon size or even bigger. I add to the bucket...some of my Marigold plants pieces....does not really matter what stage of growth or decay they are in...break them up with my hands...keep everything...roots...dried leaves / dead blooms especially...the whole plant. Or if it still has a lot of life to it...just cut some branches off and use those.
Next I use hot peppers from my garden, everything...plant, leaves, roots if you have them....otherwise just trim your plant and use the clippings along with any peppers you can spare....MULTIPLE kinds that are hot hot.
Next is Garlic, all that you can spare...skins too...plant pieces...whatever.
Add...some baking powder and soda...any amount.
HOT SAUCE all that you can spare. ANy other edible spices that you might grow...also Dandelions greens and buds are great too...
PEPPER seasoning...a lot of that.
When you have gathered up what you want...then start chopping it up with any means you want...food processor, hand chopper...as fine as you can make it....it's ok if some is still a bit chunky.
Fill your container...then add water. You can add any of y our old spices . REMEMBER to always save OLD SPICES to use for when you make this pesticide. The worse it is the better.
Use an old blender or what you have and start BLENDING IT ALL like one huge SHAKE. You can let it set for a couple of days....NO HURRY...keep blending.
READY...then STRAIN it into a holding bucket. I would keep the PULP and start another batch....but add some water to your STRAINED BATCH and put in your sprayers. I use hand sprayers...because I love to put gloves on and go thru my plants with my hand while I spray with the other....DON"T be stingy with the spray lol...you can always brew some more. Any left you can keep in fridge until next time.
There you have it...I give my plants a good spraying up and under....and my bugs HATE the stuff....it's HOT HOT and tastes awful...but is NOT HARMFUL to pets or humans or to your plants. Just wash your fruits / vegies like always and enjoy your HARVEST.
GOOD LUCK Tony!!
Summary: THE TRICK is: LOTS of HEAT, Spicey Heat....HOT SAuce / Peppers / pepper spice / has to be a lot of that. and TONS OF MARIGOLD pieces/blooms a lot.....to over power the bugs. If my recipe works in FLORIDA...it will work anywhere LOL...my opinion.
Ken
Orlando, Fl.
@@JacobsOompa Ken thanks for this, I always plant a Marigold with tomato plants to keep away bugs. Will try your "Recipe" here in Ireland, thanks again.
Gina, you go girl! If my husband were half as talented as Al, I would have projects all the time! Love from Indiana!
Al, maybe you should think about building a big carport attached to your house that would keep your truck and Gina's car from getting covered up by the snow next year. It would also may it nice when you open the basement door and step out of the house without having ice and snow right in the doorway. Great videos, I never miss watching.
We are not homesteaders. My husband is 75 and I am 71. He still loves to garden. Mainly he plants potatoes that are always very successful, tomatoes and green beans. We put up tomato juice, tomato sauce, and tomatoes. We also cold pack the green
beans. These are all things that I see that you and Gina buy at the store. I’ve often wondered why.
AL!!! Ouch (almost). The bangs scared me, as she stooped over the drill. Her hair was so close, I really had dejavu of young patients whose hair had gotten caught in drills, or moving equipment. She would not look good with a yanked out hair/bangs. Please caution her on the hair. Glad you are into house during the days of deep winter. :-)
SirWilhelm46 how many times can i like this?
Great idea with those coat racks, easy way to teach kids to pick up after themselves. The easier you make it to use the more they will hang their own stuff up. Only change I would suggest is double up your pegs, you can never have too many as you guys just proved they’re very handy and can hold a variety of things!
Yes, Al, I would love to see what projects you and Gina have going on in the basement.
I'm wondering when you will be doing shelves and organization for the workshop? I can't wait for this project as I am waiting for you to give me ideas for my shed. Not only do you give us ideas on projects like this you also show us how to do them. Good job you guys I love the coat rack/Al's stuff hanger...LOL!
Gina, ... That Lasagna looks really BLAND ! No Mushrooms, No Italian Sausage, No Roma Tomatoes, No Green Bell Peppers ! When I was living in Panama de Canal Zone on the Base at Fort Clayton in Gov.Housing , the E7 who lived above our apartment was married to an full blooded Italian Lady and she gave me a recipe for Authentic Italian Style Homemade Lasagna that was out of this World utterly Delicious !!! It had a lot more ingredients than what you made !
I love how Gina is relaxing more on video and sharing more. This has been good for her as I see a new lady emerging....kinda like a butterfly coming out of the cocoon, Love the interaction Al that you have with Olivia and I have talked two friends into doing a garden next year, but doing some planning and buying some things now for next year so we can get a good start. Going to go back over you videos and glean from those what you have taught. Keep doing these as they are so interesting and I am learning so much
My heart went out to your knife.
Protect your blade & keep it sharp.
Use the back of the blade to scrap stuff off your cutting board into the bowl or pots.
Can't wait to see your next projects
Cheers
I read a lot of books about Amish way of life. This video reminds me of them as they all have wall pegs for coats and hats by the door. We have a coat rack but it isn't like that, it is an mirror from an old dresser with coat hooks mounted to the wall by the front door. Good work guys.
Gina, love that you used cherry for your coat rack. Such beautiful wood even if it isn't furniture grade. And such a quick project makes such a big storage difference
I really want to see little mans reaction when he sees mama again.
Everyday I watch you guys and I enjoy playing alone taking a guess on how many eggs today I was one off
Yes please! We want to see all your projects in the basement or out.
Enjoy your videos so much we can’t wait to watch them every morning.
A little tip I would like to pass along. I had a client who was a retired carpenter who gave me many good ideas. Get a bunch of cheap paint brushes in several sizes and use the appropriate one to brush the wood shavings and sawdust out of holes you have drilled. Accidentally getting dust in your face can cause problems if you blow at it. I even use one to dust the keys and edges of my lap top. It gets in the small spaces without causing damage and I don't have to spend money on cans of compressed air. Hope this helps.
Share all the videos. We enjoy watching your progress on the homestead. Looking good.
I was excited to see a project in the basement! I’d love to see more. I’ve been thinking about what you’d do with that extra space now that you have your workshop.
Gina Cota We’d be on board with more basement organization videos! Ours is a mess and Jackie wants the basement back!
Saw the greenhouse frame by the blue tarp ... For smoking you want as little bark as possible ... For mushrooms either whole logs or the finest chips you can get ... Love her two- handed dead blow hammering ... "It's all picked up" ... 😇
I love the construction team work.
I'm glad I found your channel we are moving to Northern Idaho and starting a new homestead. Love all the projects. I've found myself making excuses about starting out in the harsh winters of Idaho. But watching you guys gives me inspiration. Thank you!!
I find if I rinse the noodles with either warm or cold water from the sink and then lay them out on parchment paper they will not tear or stick to itself. Looks really good now I want to make some myself. Yum, Love your videos. Yes keep the diy craft ideas coming.
Of course we want to see the rest of it. We enjoyed watching you guys working together.
That pile of ash could be put to good use for the chickens. I mix wood ash, DE and sand for my girls to dust bath in. It really keeps the mites at bay. Loved the coat racks! I'm always interested in your projects so deck out that basement! Hope you saved me some lasagna! I finally have a couple of critters here on my farm! I'm leasing my pasture to a friend and his 2 horses. They are lots of fun! Blessings to all.
Nice looking coat racks Gina...and your Lasagna looked super delicious. I know your friends thought they were being spoiled with that wonderful supper. It's a yes for anything you are building for your basement, I love it all. Have a Blessed day.
would love to see your projects in the basement, keeping you out of the cold at least :)
Love the meal cooking y’all add at the end if the vlogs Nice coat racks enough room for all 😎
Good mornin' you guys! I'm really looking forward to seeing more of your garden this year, hope you get time! 😀
If you put wood ashes on the garden be sure to check the ph in the soil. Remember ashes make lye (alkali ) soap you might need to put something acidic in the soil to get the best garden.
Gotta love the two handed knock-o-meter wielding . Nice job , keep up the great work.
Y'all crack me up with putting all the stuff on the hangers. It is nice to have someone to kid around with. Does the snow have any effect on the goats hooves? Have a Wonderful & Blessed Day!
Good morning you all, If you count your eggs in Welsh you will get more eggs. Andy
How about a matching piece with 8 to 10 inch long pegs for your boots? These pigs should be turned up a bit so liquid from the boots can drain. Maybe a couple on the end connected to a boot dryer but you could rotate boots on too. Anyway sounds like a good idea to me! I do love your craft ideas I like especially that pegboard for coats. But once you buy always wind up breaking with a heavy coat.
I'm excited for spring because at our new house we'll have room for a garden. I want to plant tomatoes, potatoes, and some type of leaf lettuce
You crack me up, Al. I just love your sense of humor. I love the way you and Gina work together. She is quite the carpenter. Love watching your vlogs. Makes my day while having my morning coffee. 🤗👍☕️🍩
I watch you in the snow, and it is 60 degrees here in Northern Nevada. I just got done hand watering my yard because it has been so dry. Thanks for the video.
Love the coat racks. When Gina said a box, does she mean one of those shoe storage wood box that has a seat on top and shoe cubes underneath so you can sit down and take your shoes off when you come in from outside? Also Willow definitely has the waddle walk and I think buttercup and blossom are getting there too. Congratulations on another wonderful build. Hmm is it one of those big plastic tunnel green houses that you plan to put in the old apple area? Living traditions just did one. GOD bless
Sounds like more containers for feed and storage of the animal materials will be in the open area as well as milking room of the barn
I would enjoy seeing the work in the basement. I'm sure Gina has a great plan for it. Thank you for playing along with Olivia's Ice-cream/coffee shop. That reminds me of my sister & I when we were her age. Love your videos!
I've been using Barilla "no boil" noodles, they work quite well.
Nothing wrong with wanting a project when you are willing and able to do at least half the work :D
Gina wants a carport, Al puts the Kubota in it. Gina want's peg boards, Al hangs his stuff on them. I see a pattern here ;)
Great getting to know you more with the things you have shared from your past. Hopefully your videos encourage others to start raising their own food so to live a healthier life. Al, you mentioned you raised rabbits. Is that something you plan on doing on your homestead there?
Gina, great job. It is so awesome seeing a husband and wife working together.
Love and blessings to your family
We are on a 5000 sq ft lot in down town Beverly, MA. We have two goats and 18 chickens! People love walking by and seeing the country in the city! I also do a huge veggie garden and we have berry bushes and a few apples trees! We are looking for our home with acres of land but as you may recall, MA real estate isn’t cheap!
Yes, show us the basement project! I love your channel, so glad I found you!
I live in Shelburne Vermont it’s warm up here so it’s gonna be warm over there get up and start tapping those trees
Just a tip, you'll get more coats on there if you hang them on a coat hanger, then on your pegs; they also air and don't get crinkled.
I love to see all of the projects! Inside and outside both. Show us what you want.
I am thinking that you guys are going to do a greenhouse and maybe another garden. Loving your peg hanger boards Gina! Gina, I don't cook my noodles, just layer them in your lasagna and they will cook as it bakes. Use a bit extra sauce, not a lot but a little bit more. Love Olivia's imagination, kids need more of that and I'm happy to see that Olivia has it and not on electronics all the time. Although, I'm not against electronics, just a time limit on them. Yes, I'd love to see more basement projects!
The whole family seems extra playful. It’s awesome. 👍
Love all the projects you do so keep them coming, in or out does not matter, hoping your year will be blessed and productive in all that you do!!!!
Hey Gina! I have a little trick to tell you, that I learned from my mom..... When ever you're cooking any kind of pasta sprinkle some salt into the water. and the salt will prevent the pasta from sticking together when you pull it out after it's cooked. You're welcome. 🤗❤️
You get our winter. In middle of Sweden we had snow 3 days around christmas, today it have been +10 degrees(C) and sunny.
Gina I’m so jealous you have all that room to hang up stuff. All our coats hang on the back of my kitchen chairs and it drives me bonkers!
mine too lol
No woodworking experience here guys and I want to try this project. Amazon indicates these are 1/2 inch tenon. 1) Do I use a 1/2 inch spade bit or somewhat smaller? 2) Do the holes go in at somewhat of an angle so the peg can be at an angle so coats don't slip? Gina: Girl you inspire me! Thanks so much!
Reorganization is good for the soul. I hope you show how you update your basement.
You mentioned getting sheep for lamb meat. I recommend a vlogger Sandy Brock. She raises sheep for lamb meat. She shares how she purchased them to immunizing them, to bottle feeding lambs that in a group larger than just twins. She covers all the pitfalls and amazing moments. She’s up on Canada.
I love to see everything! I live vicariously through your family. We live a whole different life. I do grow vegetables but that is all land I have.
Gina I don't precook my lasagne sheets, I just place them in hard and they cook while it bakes 😊
I do the same
Josie Fleetwood I do too but I buy precooked lasagne noodles. They go in hard but come out soft.
My wife Gina mixes it up...sometimes the pre-cooked, sometimes not...and she was taught by her grandparents...Italians right off the boat!😀 it’s always great either way...
It never comes out the same as precooking unless you use fresh-made noodles.
I add extra water to the sauce so my noodles cook in the pan, never had them not turn out perfect.
Nothing looks better than a hanging items, it gives up the floor space to stack and make more of a mess. Al had a good idea there.
Enjoy your day. Keep warm . Greetings from Florida.
13:15 I remember the day I bought a rotary hammer. After decades of drilling masonary with the "hamner" drill setting on drills, it was tickling the concrete compared ro the speed of a rotary hammer.
I love the coat racks. They are very conveniently located and will help keep that area organized. Great thinking Gina, and I love the fact that you built it yourself.
Would love to see the other basement projects. Your videos are always fun & lots of good tips! Blessings to you all! ♥️✌🏽
Yes we would like to see your basement projects. Love all your video’s.
when drilling into masonry use an old envelope sticky taped under each hole and it'll catch all the dust and debris
Great video as always and would love to watch more of you guys building things. Thank you.
I'm trying to figure out what the next outdoor project is when you finish cutting down the old apple trees and getting the stumps out. From hints in this video and maybe one other I'm expecting a new vegetable garden. Could be wrong of course, but don't think so. It would make a lot of sense but I look forward to the project whatever it might be.
Love your new coat rack, great job.
Seeing you work on the basement, how is the walk in cooler doing? Did your cooling systems work as you had hoped? Coming up on two years with your first charcuterie going in there, wondering about that big ham prosciutto.
Gina, add some cooking oil to your water when boiling your pasta, it will help with sticking once you drain it, adding a little more oil to coat once drained may be needed for lasagna noodles. This definitely makes them much easier to work with. That lasagna looked yummy. Try putting your mozzarella in the freezer for 1/2 hour to an hour before processing, this will firm it up and it will process easier without those lumpy bits balling up.
Al and Gina do you realize when you work and cook you are doing it infront of thousands of viewers. Don't want to make you nervous or anything. I would imagine this was the first of a number of upgrades to the basement. Keep em coming.
That why we hsve editing.😃
I always enjoy Gina's vision and skills. In the shop or in the kitchen she shines everyday with her quick wit and cool personality! As always a great team effort.
you might can get soil for gardens hauled in n placed in raised gardens
Love the peg rack- i have one too, hubby made it for me about 3 years ago. Gina, please please ditch the long sleeves for 3/4 sleeves when you are working around power equipment. Ive been working in wood since i was 17 years old, and never had a safety accident. Also the rings need to come off, especially when you are working with a drill press. Good job on the safety glasses and i hope(cant see them) ear protection.
Yes. I would like to see everything!
I seem to be watching these older videos out of sequence. Didn't Al use the basement to build a cold storage unit... I also realise that I watched the greenhouse building videos ages ago, and now I am watching these videos from before that... indeed, I remember him clearing the last tree stump out of the ground before he lay the base of the Greenhouse.
Shoe racks and benches with storage for all the winter gear. Is it time to start the seeds?
Great coat/hat rack. Tanya made one for me a while back for my 29 hats. LOVE the pencil holder!
Yes, yes, yes, basement projects!! We’ve been looking at your basement/barn/garden/ storage area for a long time so we want to see what you turn the space into. 👍🥰
My daughter loves your videos, thanks. You inspired her to want to raise chickens. We just ordered 10 Black Australorp chicks.
Olivia is SO good at her coffee/ice cream stand! SO good.
You might want to check out The Stoney Ridge Farmer on Raising Mushroonms from plugs in logs. Also, on the Wood chipper, go a with larger opening one. Or call on a Tree Service and do some "GOOD OLD HORSE TRADING". The Owner might be willing to trade machine time/hours. With their larger machine in about an hour and trees are into chips.
Hi Gina! If I'm gonna do all those dishes, I always make extra lasagna, stuffed shells, chili etc. & freeze in meal-size and/or individual portions. So good & some days you just don't feel like all that cooking & cleaning. We love our homemade freezer food. :D
Can’t wait to see the garden this year
Gina you are using the blade of the knife for scraping, you are taking the edge off, use the back to save your edge
Mentioned that to her a ways back, too. Told her to use the back edge or to get a kitchen bench scraper. Dulls a knife quicker that putting it into a dishwasher, which you should never do. G'Pa and Dad both chefs and that's what they taught me.
@@dollyc4314 Hi Dolly yes my second time as well, hopefully Gina has a good sharpening stone, haha
I use about a desert spoon of oil (I use olive oil but any would work) in my pasta when cooking. It helps prevent it sticking. Rinsing it in cold water is supposed to help to. I just use oil and have never had an issue.
20:06 I put oil the water I boil the lasagna pasta. It tends to keep the noodles from sticking.
Another thoroughly enjoyable video. Thanks for sharing your lives with us.
Wish we could see more of the animals!
You can grow oyster mushrooms with apple wood. Save some chips for applewood smoked bacon and ham!
I use mine every single day. One thing to note, nice coats ... you may want to put those on a hanger and put the hanger on the peg. The peg sort of mangles coats over time. Many coats do not matter, because they are work coats or hoodies or just casual warmers, but nicer coats are also convenient to have on hand this way. The trick is to put the nicer coat back on the hanger and not just toss it up on a peg when you come back inside. I have trained myself to do this and now it is automatic and easy. Justin Rhodes calls these "City Coats" to his kids. He says "Where is your City Coat?"
Mickey Mozer - JR channel is joint Number *1* with Lumnah Acres.
Too funny Al
Liked the homestead hangers
I trick I learned from dad-put some oil in your pasta water to help keep it from sticking. Put it in when you start to boil it, I use olive oil, but any should work.
Love all your projects !!! ❤️❤️❤️
