Ah. So made it to episode 17. Things are about to get weird! 👁
Welcome to the Endgame
It's interesting that Stan usually goes for brawn and Ford uses his brain, but when Probabilitor attacks, Ford reaches for a gun while Stan ends up outsmarting him.
Well, in ford's and stans defense.
Conning and guns are more easy than thinking and punching.
Is cheating considered outsmarting?
@@SyphonicsOne if no one finds out then yes
@@scarlightemperor3410 facts I agree
@@scarlightemperor3410”When there’s no cops around, anything’s legal” - Stan
In case anyone didn't know, Probabilitor is voiced by Weird Al
Doesn't surprise me.
That's his style
Of course he is XD
What is probablilitor?
@@Airplane_boy312the… the wizard? They say his name a lot… he even declares his own name like a dozen times?
So many amazing meta jokes in this episode. Especially the last one.
"He has a twin brother!? That's the twist we were waiting for!?"
"I predicted that like, a year ago!"
Glorious. Just glorious.
“Hey, look, listen” is a reference to Navi, Link’s fairy, from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Y’know, the highest rated & most influential game of all time? But yeah, she always says that when she has tutorials & advice to tell Link on his journey.
Everyone hates her cus shes annoying but the hey look listen is so adorable
hEY LisTeN!!
17:24 This predates Astarion by like, a decade... The trope is called Elfeminate. BG3 didn't invent the character archetype.
I love both of our host reactors so much, but they do occasionally embody the "getting real Boss Baby vibes from this" meme. ❤
As someone who plays LARP, yes, we do this. Though our clothing and some of our weapons are so well-made that people often think we are shooting a movie. Also, there's a lot of movement involved. It can be exhausting but satisfying
The LAARP scene with the "fireball" is a spoof on a video of LAARP that went viral where one of the players kept repeatedly using "lightning bolt" over and over again.
That "fireball, fireball, fireball" is a deep cut reference to an old LARP video from close to 20 years ago where one of the larpers is attacking by throwing stones and yelling 'lightning bolt, lightning bolt!"
Considering what we learn later in the show I can't really fault Ford too much for being paranoid, but him keeping the interdimensional rift a secret from Stan and Mabel does show a critical flaw in Ford's character that we'll learn more about later. Again, I get why he was paranoid, but keeping something *this* big from the other family members that are already swept up in all of this is a weird move.
He is scared that Bill will use them, he knows Dipper wont be tricked
Mabel on the other hand…
@@AE_15x Spoilers
But that's exactly what I'm talking about. It was much easier for Bill to trick Mabel when she knew nothing about the rift than if Ford told her.
Not to mention, Dipper has already been tricked by Bill before in Sock Opera
@@thomas39 Before he barely knew Bills capabilities
Honestly! Ford is probably in my top three favorite characters but his paranoid and mistrusting nature gets him and his family into so much trouble.
SPOILERS:
This is why I think he is much more at fault for the events of the finale than Mabel is, even though everyone blames her for it. If she had known about the rift, it would’ve been much harder for Bill to trick her into handing it over.
Hell, the rift wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for Ford, because he built the portal in the first place.
Thing is, Dipper and Mabel's parents think that Ford is the one they've been living with all summer. They still think Stan is dead after he faked that car crash.
"With pen and paper, shield and sword, our quest shall be our sweet reward."
Even before I started understanding the fascination behind D&D and other TTRPGs, this was a contender for my favorite episode.
Between Duck-tective being a meta-commentary on what Gravity Falls had been getting away with and the further exploration of how the two twin dynamics are paralleling and influencing each other, this was a fun episode, even before I understood the high of a Nat 20. But now? I understand it on a much deeper level.
Fun fact: I just received my notification that the live started. 6 minutes after it ended. Glad I was keeping an eye on the time! UA-cam's gotta get its act together lol
Despite D&D's reputation, the most math you need for it is to be able to add 2 or 3 numbers. For those complaining about it being too much math... do you really want to be known as the person who can't add two numbers together? 😂
Nah, but really, I always describe D&D to new people as "It's like Whose Line Is It Anyway, but the only game is Scenes From The Dice."
To be fair, if you’re a DM thats home brewing monsters and stats then you’re gonna be doing a lot of math. That’s obviously not the average experience though.
@@lexim.7582Well, sure, but I would definitely not recommend anyone play their first game of D&D as a DM... unless they're a masochist 😂
@@IceMetalPunk you just unintentionally called me out for doing that exact thing 😂
@@lexim.7582I mean... are you a masochist, though? 😅
@@IceMetalPunk debatable
I love episodes where the characters enter a game whether it be DnD or just any in-universe game, the nerd in me just goes crazy when they happen. I've personally never played DnD but I do love character creation and games involving power levels and ability trees, so I still think it's cool!
I have to comment this in every reaction for this episode but it's true, Probabilitor is the most random character that I randomly like. I just think he's neat.
I forgot what led to them writing things this way, but I did find it funny Candy wasn’t there and only Grenda was in the episode. They mentioned it in the commentary, but it’s been awhile since I’ve listened to it. They were questioning “can we do that?” in a humorous way of showing one without the other, and made jokes about how Candy might find Ducktective beneath her or something.
Many people actually point out that the fact that Dipper and Mabel didn't know Stan had a twin means that when he wrecked the sceince project his father was so mad that he disowened him and he was erased from the family. That is why they were so freaked out that "Stan" Pines was dead because they thought there was only 1 Stan. HOWEVER, what a lot of people miss is that even though they never completely made up Ford was the only one in the family who didn't cut ties with Stanley completely. Even after Frd went to college and maybe Gravity Falls at that point Stanley called Stanford in the flashback when he was desperate for money so they still had each other's phone numbers. This is even stronger evidence since it is before cell phones so they continued giving each other updated contact info Ford also knew where to send a post card to ask for help. The problem is when Ford answers Stanley hangs up before saying anything. Because of episode Boss Mabel we know how hard it is for Stanley to say please. So Stanley is really mistaken even if you argue that Ford should help his brother you can blame him for not helpping when he did ask. If Ford had refused to help Stanley and then asked for his help then I would understand Stanley flipping out the way he did. Though even then acident or not Stanley cost Ford his scholorship so you could still argue that Stanley owed him 1.
The Impossibeast is a reference to the dnd monster, Beholder and "the controversial 1991-1992 edition" just happens to overlap with the previous 90s gag but is a reference to different DnD editions banning or introducing/reintrodicing different features
i love you two's chemistry it's so sweeet
Kenny PLEASE!!!! I need to hear you talk and nerd about dnd it's my favorite hobby at the moment.
Omg Kennys 'but I'm babe🥺' lmaoo
Oh my goodness the cat is so cute 😸✨
Excelsi-whatever. 💜
God I wish you guys streamed hearing you played balders Gate 3 made me so happy yet sad
Glad to hear you guys talk about how you play dnd! I think I recall the two of you expressing curiosity and desire to play it way back when you watched She-ra.
“hey! look! listen!” is a Legend of Zelda reference lol.
i need you guys to see me across the bar and really dig my vibe
As mentioned by others Probabilitor the Annoying is voiced by Weird Al Yancovic. That aside this is a cute cooldown sort of episode with neat references and foreshadowing sprinkled in. As for Ford more detail about his dimension travels it outlined in the real life Journal 3, such as where he got a certain item in a future episode & why he only told Dipper about the rift. I highly recommend J3 and also recommend the Lost Legends comic (4 canon stories) fandub after the show has concluded.
“Hey! Look! Listen!” Is a reference to Zelda Ocarina of Time. Link’s fairy constantly would notify the player of something even if the player already knew and it would be a bit annoying actually
11:35 they are siblings. It's normal to make fun of eachother, that's Mabel's way of showing that she cares about him because she can't really relate to Dipper in the "nerdy" things he likes, and she's always trying to involve him in anything they do as a family. Having fun with your siblings is better than just neglecting them. (Anyone who has siblings should know that)
Dipper never made fun of Mabel for being silly. When someone was making fun of her, he supported her and told her to be herself.
@@Ultimaniacx4 dawg you need to rewatch the show cus Dipper makes fun of Mabel a lot of times on the series, he just does it in a more sarcastic manner and he doesn't laugh when he does it. That's why i like their relationship, Alex Hirsch based it on his real experiences with his sister instead of doing the old boring two options of "siblings support eachother all the time" and "siblings absolutly hate eachother" that so many other shows do, Dipper and Mabel are just realistic 12 year old siblings and that's pretty cool ^^
@@GBLtheMOTH Name one time where Mabel was distraught like Dipper was here and Dipper kicked her when she was down like she did here.
@@GBLtheMOTH I'm waiting. Just admit you're lying through your teeth. Name one time where Mabel was distraught like Dipper was here and Dipper kicked her when she was down like Mabel did here.
14:00 I would watch Kenny play Zelda OoT for the first time
Of many places I've been to and here in my hometown, I've never seen LAARP'ing done unless it's kids but still barely.
the meta of the twin ducks lmao
Love and excited you're both into DnD. Plans for a DnD stream?
Bonding and D&D!
We have 6 cats at home. But still this catbreak filled my heart with Joy.
The I guessed that a year ago about the twin brother is also a fan reference
Is Montana playing a dark urge run?she's gonna have a wild ride lol 😈💀
I was waiting for Kenny to recognize Weird Al Yankovic as Probabilitor. Weird Al also sang the promo for the controversial 1990's ad. 😂
RIP Alfira. My lawful good Durge misses you very much.
As for someone born and raised in the 90's they were dark times that'd suck.
But in a less complicated way than these crazy times were living in.
Diggity dungeons and all that!!! 😂
I can’t believe you didn’t get the Zelda reference 😭😭
A.S.M.Purr (a.k.a. cat ASMR)
I hope you react to Critical Role's 'The Legend of Vox Machina' adult animated series sometime after this now.
Isn't critical role that one team that plays DnD?. Genuine question btw
@@SiyabongaHlongwane-or8rm Indeed, they are the most popular D&D live play.
huh Montana is playing Dark Urge huh ?
you're gonna have fun with that ahah
"Dungeons, Dungeons, and More Dungeons": I grew up in rural O'ahu where Chess was the most high tech thing going in secondary schools. I didn't run across "Dungeons and Dragons" until I got to college, and by that time, fantasy was the last thing on my mind. (As a 1970 University of Hawaii graduate, The Draft and Vietnam were "front and center.") I suspect that in those late 1960's days, D&D was a "private school thing," like the Apple Macintosh computer and Miniature Golf.;) This episode was a window back to an alternate timeline, where a "38-sided-Die, " graph paper, and a dense player's manual could fill a Summer day.;) Thinkgeneers! ua-cam.com/video/3Dk8TYmqeYE/v-deo.html
Well now that you’ve said you payed dnd the same day this was recorded I need to know what your characters race and class is.
And now, a little math problem: when I subtract your brain from your skulls, add salt, and divide your family, what's the remainder?
Mabel: YOUR BUTT!!
Probabilitor WHAT?! My butt isn't part of this particular equation.
14:34 What video are you talking about?
u guys would love dungeon meshi/delicious in dungeon
Kinda sad they didn't get the Navi reference
Hey, look, listen! Is Navi from Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time.
I would have thought that some one who palsy D&D would have plaid Zelda
Excelsior Stan Lee reference being mistaken is sad
React to Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts or Amphibia after Gravity Falls
It's not very plot relevant but are you guys planning to react or watch in your own time the gravity falls shorts?
If you love DnD, you guys should react to The Legend of Vox Machina at some point. 😁
You two have such a beautiful kitty what is it name?
I want your cat
Wheres Chayenne been?
Ah durge
Wow, great parallels! With Kenny being really into Dnd, and sort of turning off Montana from the game, as Dipper does to Mabel
Is anyone else interested in a video of just Kenny telling us about his DnD character? Or is it just me?
Under 1 hour gang 👇🏻
after your finished gravity falls, plss watch and react to adventure time
Don't forget the absolutely normal folks of Seymour's Bay, New Jersey, The Belcher family of "Bob's Burgers.";)
Or the Alaskan near-wilderness residents of Lone Moose, Alaska, the Tobin family of "The Great North."
I still don't know nothing about this game (D&D) an why you can do whatever you want without limits, but at least the episode was good.
Unfortunately, in dnd there actually are limits to what you can do- this episode was just written by someone who’s never played DnD. Although maybe DnDnMD has different rules?
Me, Myself and I story: Man😓 I think I got completely overboard, What is wrong with me, I love Letts reacts, it's all about fun and joy, but what happened to me back then? It seemed like everything goes blank for me, all I could feel is just intense anger, I also lost my temper, I just lost control😓. Sometimes in an argument, all I can do is just yell, I felt like I was going crazy. I need to think about new stuff rather than staying too negative all the time. I think fresh air can help me clear my head, meditation washing my face and try to concentrate on things that make me happy.
Day 2 of asking for Vinland saga
Plz react on jujutsu kaisen ❤❤❤
They react to it every Saturday.
My least favorite episode. Alex Hirsch has confirmed he never played DnD when he wrote this episode (i don't know if he has since) and it shows. This are not jokes a DnD player would make, they are jokes someone would make about DnD-players without being one. Unlike most episode, that feel like friends laughing about inside jokes, this one feels like being made fun of.
not sure if you guys take recommendations for shows to watch, but if you like D&D you guys should definitely react to “The Legend of Vox Machina”! It’s an animated series based on a D&D campaign from Critical Role! 🫶🏻
What I would give to just hear you guys talk about your DnD experiences. I met my fiancé through dnd and love talking about the game and hearing other people share their own stories!
