Alan: I loved that phrase you used, it was very clever -- "revolution not evolution".
Tony: No, it was the opposite. "Evolution not revolution".
Alan: Well, whatever. Because that is me. I evolve, but I don't ....... revolve. Or vice-versa. I suppose what you're trying to say is, you don't want another Chris Evans on your hands.
Tony: No, that is what we want.
      Alan: I'm your man!

I enjoyed how the presenter is so respectful and polite, always let the cast speak. It's interesting to hear Susannah talk about how comedy is done by 'feel', as in you'll do the same scene 10 times, maybe on the 11th take you'll know when it felt right and you got it! Looking forward to S2

Susannah is such a great addition to the Partridge cast. Gratified to see Steve Coogan paying tribute to the difficult job she has of reacting to Alan's nonsense, but not over-reacting. Sidekick Simon has an easier job in many ways because he's also a bit of a bumbling character (albeit sweeter than Alan), but Jenny has to be the solid professional stuck with The Worst person and to keep it all in.
Also, fun fact for the gamers, Susannah voiced Shani in The Witcher 3.

I thought series 1 of This Time was flawless. I loved the way the format kept the tension right on in real time right up close to Alan the whole time, with him having no place to hide and the camera always on him. I thought it was brilliant, you could see how much work they put into every moment, how well thought out it all was. I love how it’s all in the performance, because there is not a regular story to carry it.
His co host is brilliant in it. And the showbiz correspondent who keeps telling Alan he is wrong is superb. Really great, and impressive that after so many years of making different shows they are at their peak now.
The sentence Alan gives in this new trailer.. “if you’ve got time, then it’s high time, to give This Time your time...” is a good omen of what’s to come

As a gen X-er who followed Coogan's work through the '90s, I, and many of my generation will recall the original series (plural) with abiding affection. Every week down the pub we'd be discussing the last episode. The characters of Lynne, Michael and, latterly, Sonia, were the icing on a very big cake, and the result was a creation greater the sum of its parts that had a je ne sais quoi which reduced us to tears of laughter. There were even moments where you felt the poignance of Alan's loneliness, like the traffic cone theft scene, followed by his late-night radio shift, where the episode plays out to the strains of Go West. It was a work of comic genius. But comedy has changed, and as such I do not believe the same/new formula of Alan has been working over the past decade or so. It's been hard to pinpoint why it hasn't. You want to laugh, and there are funny moments, but much of it falls flat and feels over-done to me. I personally find Steve as Alan funniest when he's not trying too hard to BE Alan. He so naturally exudes the character and has such an expressive face that he's funniest when he's sulking, saying things under his breath to himself, doing and saying ordinary things, or literally saying nothing whilst conveying his character's private low self-esteem and innate awkwardness. Less is more, and in an era when the knaffly self-conscious over-explaining of jokes has become the new 'funny', how do you reimagine a character who was originally funny for those very reasons at a time when no one else was doing it? It's only my opinion, but i think Alan in his 'This Time' incarnation has almost become a parody of his original character. Even so, i think he could still be very funny if he stopped trying so hard to get it right.

Curse of the BBC: the jokes are weak, it was the same thing with the film that had all this money thrown at it but still wasnt very good. These BBC execs going on about how great they are and the pandemic and how much social distancing has been achieved don't realise that they are the very thing that AP used to take the p*ss out of. But its been an issue for a while - Coogan gave acting roles to his BBC insider mates Ianucci and Marber in previous series and whilst the script they'd worked on was good their acting was terrible but I doubt anyone dared say that. But then thats the BBC hierachy, totally up its own ar*e it seems.

I think This Time is great, along with all the other Gibbons Bros contributions to the Partridge canon, but fair enough, it's a different type of humour to the early stuff.

Where's Alan Partridge? It's just a load of people talking.

Never found Alan Partridge appealing. But as I’ve got older and matured, not like cheese though, I’ve discovered his manner is now much like mine. I easily do inappropriate gestures, the odd half Nazi salute at the deli counter in Tesco as way of a thank you and saying cringing comments making a person feel extremely awkward. Growing old with Alan seems more appealing now……

How on ell did u get Coogan on ur podcast.. This guy NEVER turns up on any docus or commentarys... He done one commentary with Lynn and that was as Alan (obv as with Lynn).. He never talks about this... U must be privolidged.

I have to congratulate Steve Coogan on making a career out of what was just a minuscule section of The Day Today. It is getting just a bit repetitive now though......

the new show is sadly not very good, quite poor writing, awkward acting, and the live tv format doesn’t work.

Trouble with Mr. Coogan is u can never tell whether he is talking as himself or slipped into Alan mode.. I think his Alan is MORE like him than he credits himself for, even tho that would make him cringe.. Lol. Haha.

The first series fell a bit flat for me so hope this series is more back to form.

I loved the original Alan Partridge with Michael, Lynn et al. Sorry, guys but dont find This Time funny at all, just doesn't make me laugh like it did years ago.

I can appreciate both for what they are and I'm just thankful for new Alan content. The quality relative to other comedy is still really high. I can't get over how much there is to unpack in the Oasthouse audio book or I, Partridge. It's unbelievable how they have created such a life for him over 30 years
