I'm so torn between two things. I would love to see a geiko/maiko myself when I'll be traveling to Kyoto but I do not want to be another tourist that swarms them. I have a very big passion (and interest) in the kimono culture and the eleborate kimonos of the geiko are so magnificent and beautiful to see. I am a fashion photographer myself so I take a big inspiration from all things used in the kimono culture, but I feel like photographing them without permission is a big invasion on their privacy and I wouldn't want to impose in any way as I do not feel like that is my place.
It is so cute. I would like more tourists to be as respectful as you are. Although, I don't think that it is a bad idea to take a photo of them without blocking their way and chasing like a maniac, what I see upsets me.
the best thing you can do is just stand/sit in one spot (same where this guy is filming), listen to a podcast, and keep watching. When you see one walking down just take some photos without moving. Don't chase them or get in their way. Thats the best imo. Sit, wait, prepare.
Best time to spot Maiko/Geiko probably around 8pm onwards there are minimal numbers of tourist along Hanamakoji street. During that time, I spotted atleast 8 maikos. But the downside, you need a camera/dslr with good low light capabilities and fast auto focus to capture the beauties of these maikos/geikos.
It means that you should not urinate there. It’s a sacred symbol so people would never urinate on that. Something I just found out fairly recently even though I’ve been living here over 17 years!
Hey Dave! Love, as always, watching the Geisha with you. However I must say while going there and seeing them was one of the top things on my list, after seeing how they are mobbed by tourists and how some of them really don't like it I think that I won't bother them. I know that the absence of 3 people won't make much of a difference lol but I think if they knew they'd appreciate it.
東大阪からです^^I always see it happily. After all it is Mr. Dave's appearance at the Gion festival. It was very hot today. It seems that some Westerners are more than usual. Maiko and Geiko is also a kimono and it will be hot during the day. There is a place where you can make a maiko 's beer service on the street corner during the Gion Festival period. I would like to see Maiko once. It is from Higashi Osaka ^ ^
You are the best Dave! Geishas are so talented. I love their beautiful dresses.
Glad you’re enjoying it! There’s plenty of videos for you to enjoy here!

Dan Fazylov Even then, I believe asking would be the right thing to do. However, I believe they made photographing geishas illegal recently.

You are the best J-vlogger! I learn so much about Japan from your video and I'm Japanese.
Thank you!

I see a little torii gate on the side of the building at 8:34 ! Anyone know what it is for? Is it like the fairy doors in Michigan?

@@DaveinOsaka Intersting, and very clever. Thanks for the reply^^

Some of those cars were driving fast for having all those tourists walking aimlessly. There could be a bad accident.
You’re right!
First maiko is Mameyo san
Wow, amazing video!
Thanks!

No I didn’t
10:00 I'm disgusting this man who smoking tabaco 😡😡
I agree!
These women are fantastic
