Yes, love turkeys! Sometimes I'll have a tom claim me as his own. Then i can't walk around without him laying on my feet and keeping all the rest away. Then he courts me with a beautiful show of color change on his head and fanning his tail. Pretty funny!

Can’t believe how big the kids are getting. I love turkeys. I once had a pet turkey who followed me all over. Wish we knew about mobile chicken tractors when I raised chickens.
We have only raised chickens, bees, and rabbits. The rabbits were supposed to be for the table. But my husband couldn't bring himself to kill them. So we ended up with 14 pet rabbits. But so far, chickens are my favourite farm animal.
Thanks! You helped bring back memories! When I was 12 my dad was out of town for Thanksgiving. My Mom told me that I was going to be the one to take care of the big tom turkey that we were having for Thankgiving. I tryed but just couldn't do it. So my mom asked our neighbor and he did it for us! As the oldest boy my job was to care for our animals and birds. I realy like turkeys too! I realy miss living on family farm!
On my chicken tractors I attached about an 8-10" apron of hardware cloth that lies on the ground all around the tractor so that any critters trying to get the chickens would run into a roadblock. That seems to have worked really well and we have not lost any chickens. Raccoons did try to get them one night but were thwarted. 😀 What a commotion, though, as the chickens didn't know how safe they were!
We had a Black Spanish that loved being around us. He would come up to the back door and tap on it hopefully we would come out to talk to him. And yes he would talk back. You could give him a hug and he just loved it He was even known at our church. The older people invited him to their Thanksgiving Dinner. My husband took him in a cage and he sat with them in the building talking to them. Many of them already knew him because they would bring their grandchildren to our farm to see all the different animals that we had. We also had a Lamancha goat that would love going for rides in our van.
I love the personalities of the Bourbon Reds. So friendly. When you have a single poult (or any single chick) like that its good to put him with some other chicks. They'll show him what to do.
My Tom hates me but I still like him!.. He tries every day to intimidate me protecting his ladies... my fav farm animal - thats a hard one but I have to say my mini longhorns and my American Blackbelly sheep.
I love turkeys! 🦃 We have a pair of Narragansett/Bourbon mixes that hatched out 4 poults this year. Momma turkey is sneaked out from the coup and we thought she was a goner. Then one day she showed up with 4 babies. Micah has grown so much! Seems like yesterday he riding on your back in the videos.
You have just the right Spirit to be successful at whatever you do while keeping your sense of humor and I appreciate your Authenticity 🤍. You have a wonderful family 💙! Thank you 🙏🏻 for sharing your journey today! ❤️
We love raising our turkeys! Guineas did not do well here either - Ken would go outside and say "this is not zen" - LOL! They were quite loud and someone was more than happy to take them off our hands. :)
Im with you on guineas. We had some of them growing up. Not so much for the ticissue since that was never a problem in the PNW, but for their guarding potential. The least little non farm noise and they were going bonkers. Their eggs were small but tasty but with all the rest of the birds we had we didnt need them since we had non livestock guard dogs that stayed on top of protecting us. Was glad to see them go. I think you should include your turkey with more of your chores.
Hi from Northern Upstate New York! I have 2 turkeys and I went to pick one of my big girls up and her wing hit my face so hard that it left it red 😂 they are strong! But I love my 2 big feather ladies!
I love turkeys. When I was a little girl, we always had at least a dozen along with about 30 chickens which kept our family of seven in eggs and meat Then we had our jersey cows that provided us with the best milk ever and with the bowl calves pretty darn good beef.
I love turkeys, too. I don't raise them, but I watch the wild flocks as they pass through the back pasture. Slowly walking with their heads down looking for food, they remind me of dinosaurs.
This video made me cry, I had a meat turkey I raised he was a lap turkey unfortunately we had to move and couldn’t take him. I gave him to another family and I stopped by about 2 weeks later and there was this huge male all puffed up at me. I didn’t realize it was my turkey. She texted me as I was leaving and told me. I sat in her drive way and balled my eyes out. He recognized me and was hopping around all puffed up. My 17 year old was like mom are u gonna be alright? It’s been 4years and I still miss him. He was a great friend. He was so big I had to cuddle with him on the ground cuz It hurt to have him on my lap. Miss my Turk turk
🤚🏼I like turkeys. I don’t like the smell of them on butchering day. I think it is the wet feathers. Chickens don’t have quite the same smell. I don’t usually eat turkey for lunch or dinner that day.
we saved a bourbon tom and two hens two years ago as well, hes named Thanos lol. midget whites this year waiting for that time for freezer camp. any suggestions? do i keep breeders? What do ya think Mike? and yes turkeys die like its their job lol

Mike, we've been growing our own for the second year. Both years we had turkey hens hatching them and then raising them on our own in the brooder. First go around - no losses, second go around one loss. Pretty decent for turkeys. I move mine now four to five times a day, but was wondering that if I put them in e-netting, if I had to cut their wings or at least one wing. What do you do? Thank you!!
The turkey is buttering you up so that you won't butter him up.
