- Obviously sunscreen is a hot topic, but with the attitude people have developed around it, and the community-wide approach to speaking about sunscreen, I've developed some potentially controversial opinions about how we treat and educate on sunscreen! Some of these are my own, some of these submitted by subscribers like you, but regardless, it's piping hot tea!

Yes. In Korea, where I live people use itbin summer even if it's cloudy hahaha. The problem is I mostly ride a bike when I am outdoors, so can't use the umbrella.
Yes! People look at me like I'm cray cray because I always have my umbrella with me. I'm fair/light toned and if my umbrella saves my skin. They can keep looking🙄

I definitely went through a period where I was legit like afraid of the sun. And as someone who struggles with anxiety and guilt, not reapplying before I left work to come home was making me miserable sometimes and no one needs that. It's supposed to be fun! So I try to wear a hat and just give myself a break and remember that anything I'm doing has to be better than nothing. Love your content and your reassuring, realistic views!
I really love hearing your perspective and experience! I also have my own set of anxiety, but understand the limitations to each factor and understand there’s still room to forgive myself and still be responsible under the sun. I appreciate your comment!

Controversial sunscreen opinions: there’s no reason for a brand to only have one “universal” shade for their tinted sunscreen. Though sheer is subjective I find it completely ill willed when companies market their mineral sunscreens (that leave a cast on very light skin) as sheer
I love how Ramón is not afraid to speak about controversial opinions or topics. I really enjoy how he is willing to spill the tea.
I'm one of the black people who has to use mineral sunscreen due to sensitivity, and even they can be irritating. I also can only tolerate them on my body. One of the high crimes of blackness is being ashy, and I have to plead guilty quite often. Very emollient serums and moisturizers can help a lot.
On the plus size mineral sunscreens can be found cheaper in larger bottles.
Which mineral sunscreen do you use?
@@sams517 Right now I use Coppertone Pure and Simple and Sun Bum Tinted Mineral. I lay down a thinnish layer of the CPS, which is 14% zinc oxide then top with SBTM. I have worn two thin layers of CPS only, but I like that SBTM works as a primer. I also use CPS on my body.
CPS is inexpensive and does not irritate my skin as long as I keep my skincare simple. It does have a white cast so should be applied in thin layers. I cover it all with Bare Minerals Pro Powder Foundation and sometimes a bit of Maybelline Fresh BB Cream.
Zinc dries me out beyond reason, and Titanium Dioxide breaks me out. So Chemical for the win!😊

I have my video on body sunscreens already up, although I didn’t specify which ones I recommend for face necessarily. Technically they all can, they just tend to be more emollient/less elegant on the face
Sunscreen opinion: We need tinted sunscreens (not foundation with spf) with shade RANGES. For example, Colourscience released their Flex Face Shield with 4 great shades but I doubt that someone of Nyma Tang’s complexion could get away with their darkest shade.
Colorscience is criminally expensive.

Most drugstore sunscreens in Australia are 80-100ml for $10 AUD probably because we’re the skin cancer capital. The Bondi sands one is my favourite *chefs kiss*
My skin isn’t sensitive but I do have rosacea and mineral sunscreens are miserable. So heavy, often feels suffocating, which makes me get too hot, flush, and aggravate my rosacea. Chemical ones have been so wonderful to use and don’t bother my skin.

I love your videos! They're so educational & helpful. I was falling victim to the fearmongering of using "clean" mineral sunscreens only. While my complexion isn't the deepest, I am Mexican so I do have color and finding a mineral sunscreen that hit a lot of the points I was looking for was a challenge. I'm making my way back toward chemical/hybrid sunscreens and am loving it! Thank you so much for the amazing content you put out!
I've been meaning to ask, WHY is 50 mL the standard!???
IKR. 🤣 🤣 🤣 I think they do that because of portability. You can just throw it in your hand bag and go unlike a 200ml bottle of spf.
@@UdegbunamChuks in that case why not offer two sizes?? 50 ml works if you end up not liking the sunscreen so you can finish it up quickly. And like you said, 50 ml works great on the go. But I'd really appreciate if they had bigger sizes

Yes, 100% YES to all of this! I have always thought many of these things but watching all the skin youtubers started to make me paranoid about my more relaxed attitude towards spf. Thanks for showing a more healthy and realistic approach to suncare! The attitude towards it these days is getting out of hand.
Love your old and new hairstyles, but you could do anything and still look great 😊 I use p20 kids since I forget to reapply at work. I work evening shift. But I do try to remember and use a spray garnier over makeup works pretty well😊

Applying too much sunscreen is something I used to do and it was so bad lol. It’d be hoursssss and I’d still feel it on my face. Applying 1/4 tsp gave me 4 layers of sunscreen…. Das a lottttt. I was a hot, greasy mess, UNTIL I discovered you, Labmuffin and KindofStephen! I realized I was applying about double the amount I actually need. I’ve gotten made fun of my entire life for being small and have a face the size of like, a large 1st grader annnnnnd I’m 31 😂 Really realizing that we all are different sizes, the “rules” aren’t hard and fast has been so helpful. 👏🏻

This is only my first dose 😭 it took a couple of days, but then the symptoms did definitely hit 🥴
Yeah, no reaction to my first shot, just a sore arm. The second shot knocked me down for a day, with a low grade fever and general malaise.

Yes, sunscreen should be 3+ ounces since it has to be "reapplied every 2 hours". Thank God my office doesn't have windows 😂.
Ramon is right. The "reapplied every 2 hours" is for when you are actually OUT in the sun, as at a street festival or the beach, or if you have an outside job. For the rest of us, pull the drapes and apply it once or twice. I love that he explained how the reapplication actually works.
I really liked this video! It would be great to follow up with sun safety practices. I agree we should not be afraid to be outside. We need to be mindful of our individual sun exposure though - my husband loves to play golf, fish, etc. in the summer. A lifetime of that without paying any attention to sun safety practices including wearing sunscreen has meant skin cancer unfortunately for him.
There are so many lazy recommendations for sensitive skin and rosacea out there. Thank you for calling that out!

I subscribed because of this video. Thank you for validating the concerns that so many skincare-conscious people have, ranging from those of economy to those of practicality. There are ideally qualified, well-meaning experts dispensing objectively unfeasible advice (a time-consuming, labor-intensive, and cost-prohibitive relationship with sunscreen being the most glaring among them). Their hearts are in the right place, and their interpretation of the science is, for all intents and purposes, factually accurate; but their recommendations seldom take into account what is actually reasonable and sustainable for most. Their math could also use some work. (No sunscreen, however inexpensive, is affordable when you're doing the "100 layers of" challenge every day lol.)

You have my vote for 80-min water resistant Korean sunscreen. I make do with Biore but for some reason it balls up when I sweat.
I have a few tinted mineral sunscreens I like, but they serve as foundation so I think of them as 2-4-1 products (Colorescience Bronze, EltaMD, MyChelle, Illia, Australian Gold). No-tint is a no-go.
Honestly I’ve had a huge issue since learning about sun damage with obsession and anxiety around sun protection triggered by what I saw online. I would not allow a single ray of sun to touch my face in the morning before I applied spf and not take it off until it got dark and avoided almost all sun exposure even in UK winter. It damaged my mental health a lot and took a long time to get over!
Love this channel!! One thing I have been wondering is whether EU/Japanese/US/AUS sunscreens will be proven to have much lower spf as happened in Korea last year. And we just happened to catch this one spf distributer.
Not necessarily, Korean sunscreen is all about the light texture, lower concentration of filters and they have different laws about testing, so I believe the issue came when alcohol was added to make it lighter and it wasn't retested. Hi!! Amazing content as usual! Have you heard of Bronzini by Drunk Elephant? Bronzing drops you can just pop into anything. Works great with those ashy mineral sunscreens, if you must. My preference is Korean /Japanese suncare just for the elegant texture and (usually) invisible finish. Been loving the Missha waterproof gel (blue label) And the Bioré Athlizm sun milk... Now THAT one is oily skin friendly... Have you tried it?
Oh... And this is def another sunscreen for you to try... Derma:B - Everyday Sun Block SPF50+ PA++++ ... Not so expensive, lovely texture, fresh scent and soft finish... From head to toe!

The only water/sweatproof Korean sunscreen I've encountered also happens to be one of my favorites! It's the HERA Sun Mate Leports Pro Waterproof SPF50+ PA++++. That shit is TENACIOUS and being an Amorepacific brand, I know I can trust the R&D and manufacturing. It's on the pricier side ($30-40 depending on the retailer) but you do at east get 70ml. The only drawbacks I can think of is that it's quite fragranced and emollient, so possibly not the best for sensitive and/or oily skin.
I found a good reapplication method for me: I use powder makeup over sunscreen. When I feel like I should reapply I use Sun Bum Tinted Mineral, which feels like a silicone primer, right over the makeup then apply powder foundation over that. I don't blot before the sunscreen, so my natural oils keep it from looking too dry.
I think some of the sunscreen "rules" like reapplying every 2 hours every day is unrealistic, it's too expensive for most people and the 50ml bottles are way too small for that. Even just reapplying once per day will make you run out of the sunscreen super quick and not everyone can afford that especially if you are a student and don't have a full time job.
IMO it also seems unnecessary if you aren’t outdoors all day. Like, if you spend most of your day inside a office or school building while the UV index is at its highest, I don’t think you need to fret all that much about reapplying. Yes sunlight can get through windows but I think it’s just too extreme to worry about sun exposure to that extent. Especially if u aren’t sitting directly in front of a window all day. It’d be different if I was at the beach all day or wakeboarding or hiking or something

This is why I am happy I am in AU, options are varied. 50ml sunscreen at most is travel size in AU.
Do you have some recommendations for pale, acne prone, sensitive skin. I usually reach for mineral for these reasons, but after you talked about mineral sunscreens maybe not always being the best for sensitive skin, it got me thinking. So, do you have any suggestions for me?
I feel like for the past 2 years sunscreen was the only step of my routine that wastnt relaxing and enjoyable.
One of the reasons im even studying this in school is due to the fact that anyone darker than beige has to spend so much money and time finding a good mineral sunscreen that actually works for their skin both in terms of how it feels and looks and is easily accessible where they live and so on. This does not help the fact that sunscreen isnt emphasized for darker skinned people as it is for lighter skin toned people, rather it pushes darker-skinned people further away from its usage, which could prevent so many from developing sun related diseases. We constantly try to urge the beauty industry to develop wider shade ranges for all skin tones and Im glad that in recent years more skin care companies have been developing tinted sunscreens that work for darker and lighter shades, but we still have a way to go so its great to see people like you who've been bringing the awareness that will prompt further development.
Wow, you are the voice of reason. The apply every two hours regardless rule is insane. I wear La Roche Posay Invisible Fluid on my dry, sensitive, reactive Fitzpatrick 1, old skin. I am in the U.S. I read a blog post about an earlier formulation called Ultra Fluid, and this blogger said he thought the Ultra Fluid, using the SPF and PPD numbers, would protect from high noon sun exposure for 8 hours of UVB and 7+ for UVA. Now the Invisible Fluid is SPF 50 (though I could care less about UVB protection) and PPD 46. Are these numbers really equivalent? Don't know, and really don't care. In the summer, when the sun is up for 16 hours, I reapply on my lower face and sometimes on the front of my neck once or twice. In the winter, when the sun is up for 7 or 8 hours, well, maybe once. I go outside to get the mail or fill a bird feeder and I sit behind black out drapes in my E-W oriented home. I wear UPF clothing from Solumbra and Coolibar from about April to September, then I switch to my beloved merino wool clothing from Icebreaker. I've become sophisticated enough to love polyester and percentages of polyester, which is UPF 50 without even trying. One last thing. I look much better in hats. I've worn hats during periods throughout my life, but in the last few years, I just said, look at this enormous collection of hats! I should just wear one every day. And I do. I put them on after sunscreen and eye makeup, and they don't come off until night time skincare. I don't take them off inside. At this time of year I like hats from Betmar, Tula and John Callanan. In the colder times of year I live in my Scala wool cloche hats and two excellent Callanan boiled wool cloches that were total eBay scores, as well as others. I have top hats, sun hats, fashion hats and even I have a gaucho, which is a very flat hat. The only hat style that I don't think works on me is the bucket hat. Meh. I wish I was born 30 or 40 years after I actually was. We didn't know anything in the 80s or 90s or even the aughts. We've really only known about UVA and the damage it can cause for like the last 12 years. If even.
Also, I'm always aware, now anyway, of where the sun is in the sky at all times. I use the visor in my car to block what I can and I see where it is hitting me and make note of it. In the U.S. we are at such a disadvantage. Mineral sunscreens, which are not really my jam, flaking off my dry skin as they do after just a few hours of wear, are criminally expensive. Even though I am always buying other sunscreens, most of them just sit there collecting dust while I carry on with my Invisible Fluid, which doesn't migrate into my eyes or rub off on my neckline, or stain the inside bands of my hats. Other sunscreens migrate from my forehead right through my hats... big diffuse white curve on some of my black hats. The Invisible Fluid is the most elegant sunscreen I've ever used. Well, I do agree with you. The Asian sunscreens are truly aesthetic, I just don't trust them the way I trust my HG sunscreen. It is truly my favorite thing to apply.
About the mineral sunscreen for POC convo-- I disagree, but I get it. I was fine with chemical sunscreens until last year when I started getting eczema flare-ups on my face for the first time since childhood. I've had to use exclusively mineral sunscreens and only *just* started finding physical-chemical hybrid options (thank God for J-beauty) that work for me. Even though I have a good idea of what filters work for me (ie don't irritate my skin), idk if I'll ever go back to 100% chemical sunscreens. There are options out here for us POC; besides the popular ones, unfortunately, it requires some digging to find more options, but they are out there. By and large, as long as there's zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, a white cast is inevitable. But I'd take the tiniest cast over trying a sheer chemical sunscreen that could potentially wreck my skin barrier. Not after all the work I've put into reparing it lmao.
Lol what was shown on screen wasn’t my own opinion at all. POC still might have a need for mineral filters and I firmly believe options should exist. I’m waiting for a GOOD brand to drop an affordable tinted option with RANGE, but yea no, I believe everyone should have the ability to use the types of sunscreens they want
BTW if anyone has combo, acne-prone, dehydration-prone, eczema-prone (LOL) skin and wants some hybrid options, I highly recommend Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Milk, Suncut Mild Care Milky Gel, and Allie Extra UV Gel. All of them are fragrance- and essential-oil free; all except the Allie one are alcohol-free.
@ yeah, I meant I disagree with whoever commented that on your instastory😅 I hope so too!!I understand it must be hard to formulate a broad spectrum mineral sunscreen that is elegant on even the deepest of skin tones. One day we’ll get more options, I’m sure of it🥲✨

hey ramon, love your videos but i live in australia and our sun is very much more intense than other places. that is why i like to use SPF 50+ bc i need it down here. that is the reason why i use spf50+, not because i want bigger numbers, we need it down here. love your vidsss❤️❤️❤️
I have permanent makeup eyebrows & liner & have been told by sunscreen companies that you can NOT and should NOT blend in the physical sunscreen too much or you will undo the SPF. It has to sit on the skin/brows to do its job. Well, that would mean I have white brows if I could not blend it in, and chemical is not an option because my eyes sting to death if I get chemical sunscreens anywhere NEAR my eyes (unless there are some that don't do this that I don't know of). Told any form of hyaluronic acid, Vitamin C can fade permanent makeup if in a sunscreen applied to permanent makeup (brows, liner). Almost every sunscreen I have looked into has some form of hyaluronic acid--typically in the middle or close to end of ingredient list and Vitamin C which all can fade permanent makeup. What are your thoughts? Thanks!!!!
Great vid I was interested from beginning to end , I am a lil more bronze than you Ramon and I only use mineral spf I understand the frustration from people with a bit more melanin than I the industry needs to offer more tinted options for those who do like mineral and yes the size needs to be more generous I’m waiting for a sun/skincare line that’s going to break or shake up the Internet and industry like affordable brands did with skincare and formulate great spf options both chemical & mineral for the face at 2oz- 3.4oz at an affordable pricing who will be the one to really go back to the drawing board and offer a real collection/ line of spf that has something for everyone ✍🏽 🤔 ☀️🏖🌱🐰♻️🖤🤎💛🤍

Would you say you should alway wear sunscreen in your home even if you do not have direct sunlight on you skin throughout the day? I understand that being next to a window with the direct sun shining through would make sense but if you have windows but no direct sunlight hitting you, what would be your take? Also if the outdoor UV rating is below 2 , is sunscreen even needed indoor or outdoor? Thanks!!!

I don’t know if I have a sensitivity to a mineral filter or WHAT, but I’ve tried like…10 different mineral sunscreens and they all made me itch. And then even most of the chemical ones made me itch - even the verdio (?) sadly. The only one that doesn’t irritate my skin is the Canmake one, go figure 🤷🏽♀️. So I definitely agree, mineral doesn’t always mean sensitive skin safe. I know Canmake is combination, but I think it’s that both the zinc and titanium are in low concentrations. The dose makes the poison as they say…
Oh yes, itch. I forgot to mention that too. After a few hours they are flaking off my face like so much snow, and I'm scratching at my jawline like a dog.
I have a tinted chemical sunscreen that is a little too light weight. I have a thick mineral sunscreen that leaves an extreme white cast and takes a bit of effort to spread. What is the research or opinion on “cocktailing”/mixing 2 different formulas of sunscreen?
Do not mix sunscreen with anything else before application.

Please review the Eucerin dry touch cream gel at Boots. It's very similar to their oil control one, (which is a hg), but its better value (like 200ml instead of 50ml for a similar price)

@@rionamcauliffe5469 synthetic fragrance. it has parfum listen on ingredient list so its not fragrance free if that's an issue for you. i would go to boots and put some on your arm and see how long it lasts. I am not allergic to fragrance but i dont like it lasting all day esp if it's a fragrance i dont like..I was in a rush and bought it due to the 3 for 2 offer but i did a test on my arm and to me, the fragrance lasted all day and gave me a headache...luckily i was able to return it..i like the Eucerin oil control for face but will stick to Altruist for body

Hey Ramon ! I have 2 questions about sunscreen and makeup :
1. If you apply a waterproof, quite resistant sunscreen, does it move less than a non waterproof sunscreen when you apply your makeup on top ?
2. If I wear a tinted oil (the Kosas one) can it break down my sunscreen that's underneath ?

I have always wondered about that. I watch a lot of You Tube channels, and when U.S. You Tubers allow their mineral sunscreens to set up and then go in with primer, foundation, cream bronzers, liquid blushes and highlighters, I'm always like, "Aren't you messing up your sunscreen?" If I put anything on top of my Invisible Fluid sunscreen it's IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation, which at least has a little zinc. I pounce it on with a soft foundation brush, many hours after sunscreen application + reapplication. Am I compromising my coverage by doing this?
@@SusanSlattery I know right I am so lost ! I guess it really depends on what sunscreen you have applied and which amount, and what makeup products you put on top and how you put them, but overall I don't think it is possible to not mess the sunscreen just a little if you want your makeup to be well spread on the face. The best solution I have found is to dab every product really gently with my fingers once the sunscreen is set. I only wear concealer and blush, I stopped wearing a complexion product all over the face when I started wearing sunscreen because I just struggle to make it work I am always scared that it affects the protection. And there is also the fact that when the sunscreen is fully set underneath, it can make your makeup look awful when you move it with the makeup application, but at the same time if you apply your makeup when the sunscreen is not set you are risking to dilute the sunscreen or to have uneven spf coverage ugh
@@TheChoupistar I don't wear blush or concealer. I use a tinted moisturizer or IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation (with SPF) to cover my redness. When I try gently tapping on blush, all it does is reveal the broken blood vessels left by my vascular rosacea that I covered over with foundation. It's like the blush dissolves the foundation, or pulls the blotchiness right through. So I walk around like Foundation Face most of the time. I just use it to cover my ugly redness.

heh.. people keep recommending mineral sunscreen if your skin is sensitive, so far 2 of the mineral sunscreen I tried slightly tingles, burn or itches my skin depending on the condition. I have Biore Aqua Essence and I could wear that with out having to put on a base or say a little prayer that my skin won't tingle badly
Also I am in the boat of wearing just enough, I tried the 2 finger method and I am like... why does this feel very greasy and this tone up effect is way too much
Controversial opinion on one of these controversial opinions: the obsession over spf is not really widespread in fact it's probably quite the opposite outside of the skincare community and among the wider population, who still think an spf 15 in your foundation drops will be enough. I'll still continue to generously provide free sunscreen tips (and applications!) to any clueless friend or colleague who is willing to be educated 🤓

Loved the video, but i would love to know your opinion on the one I submitted. Since most Cruelty free brands that are based on the US are small companies, do you tend to trust their SPF ratings and lab studies as much as you do with bigger companies?
Generally yeah. I mean, they all have to go through the same tests. They might private label their sunscreens, but they still have to test them in the same system as other sunscreens being sold in the US market

Does UV-PF clothing make a big difference? I remember seeing this study that found it barely offered more protection than lots of normal clothing, but I might just not be scientifically literate enough to discern how great of a study it was.
I’ll look into it more, but basically see it as another precautionary step. Sunscreen + UPF clothes + hat + avoidance of direct sun
Whenever I wear certain chemical lip sunscreens or even sunscreens on my face I notice they’ll run and I can taste them in my mouth, is there any harm to this?
For lip products, no. They’re tested and regulated under the pretense that consumption will happen and they have to be proven non-toxic and safe to use in the manner. For face ones, still no.

Very informative, thanks for this, although I had to slow it down a little. You speak so quickly. I definitely think people need to calm down with the sunscreen-shaming and remember that there's a certain level of privilege that comes with having so many choices of sunscreens to use and diligently applying it without thinking about how much it's costing (#firstworldproblems). Some people can't afford to and have bigger things to worry about, such as putting food on the table or keeping a roof over their head. Also, people are free to live their lives how they see fit and if they don't apply sunscreen every two hours, day after day, is anybody really going to die or go to hell for that? No.

But that's totally fine, some people love sunbathing more than having less wrinkled skin and it's a personal preference. Really, just don't act like your skin is going to be as healthy as others who use sun protection.
As far as skin sensitivity with SPF, is it the same with eye sensitivity to SPF? Totally individualized? I find my eyes are verryyyyyy sensitive to sunscreen getting in it. And also find super hard to trust a recommendation that it “doesn’t sting eyes” (I’ve been burned before). Who and what can I trust 😭😭 just gonna keep crying over here haha

Not necessarily. Korean and Japanese sunscreens are famous for their elegance for sure, but you can get some nice American and European ones that’re also lightweight and elegant as well

No! They both have similar functions of mechanism and really it comes down to formula preference. Technically chemical sunscreens have the ability to be formulated to offer much higher protection (reason why all high SPF and high UVA sunscreens are chemical). And a big issue with mineral sunscreens is people not wanting to deal with white casts so they don’t put enough. But at adequate amounts on the skin an SPF 50 broad spectrum sunscreen is just that, mineral or chemical

teaching people from the very young age, the importance of sun protection. I think a lot of people don`t even know they are supposed to wear spf daily. Let`s make that a habit, like waching your face, or brushing your teeth :)
My controversial opinions: chemical sunscreens are great, except for the eye sting. Not really worth it. And the water resistant ones, ironically, *really* hurt when they get in the eyes.
And #2: I haaaate spray sunscreens, *especially* on the face. Most bottles say not to spray directly on the face, haha. If I didn't want to be able to breathe for 10 seconds, I'd just spray my face with bug spray, same effect 😂
Tbh idc about uvb much. We dont get much this season..in my country. Im Always inside. The only ray im more exposed to is UVA. Burning isnt rlly my main concern

I still think that doing skincare without sunscreen is pointless and a total waste of money. If you don’t want, can’t or don’t have access to sunscreen stick to simple cleansing, moisturizer and sun avoidance and other protective measures as possible

If a mineral sunscreen is taking forever to rub into your skin then you're not using the right mineral sunscreen or get a tinted mineral sunscreen
I feel sad that everything irritates me. I have tried countless sunscreens (mineral, combo, completely chemical), and my rosacea skin is just not cooperating... And there are people that don't want to use sunscreen :(
I found that alcohol is the greatest culprit for my rosacea to be irritated. I now use a chemical sunscreen with the same filters as another that caused irritation but because it is more moisturising and doesn't contain alcohol I have no irritation. But everyones skin is different. I also found that niacinamide in a hydrating serum or moisturiser (not The Ordinary) and azelaic acid can calm the irritation so other skin care is better tolerated.
@@sara_387 Yes, I avoid alcohol in skincare products. Unfortunately (for me), azelaic acid just made my condition worse. That shows how rosacea affects people differently. I am still debating if niacinamide hurts me or not (I have to stop a moisturizer tha has it due to my skin being more irritated, and I am using another one that doesn't have it just to experiment).
I have vascular rosacea. In my 30s I simplified my skincare and it calmed down. In my 50s now and using Retin A and other actives, and my skin is pretty calm since I recently converted to La Roche Posay Toleraine products. I use microfiber towels on my face and do not rub it much or even touch it. Gah, when I first started Tret about 4 years ago, my face was so itchy, my favorite thing was physical exfoliation with a Wonder Cloth. That's history. Now I have a skin care routine that works for me and keeps my redness at bay, though frankly I'm discussing V Beam laser therapy these days with my dermatologist.
@@SusanSlattery I started Vbeam in May this year. I still need two more sessions to see results. Interesting to read your good results with Retin A. I am going to ask my dermatologist about it. I have the fun combo of vascular rosacea plus the papules. I am also using LRP Toleriane moisturizer. Thanks for your input!

Some people may like lighter skin on themselves, so they can do that through safe skincare and sunscreen use. Some like darker skin so they can use sunless tanners to achieve that. There is no colorism in an individual's having their own taste. Just because someone thinks lighter skin fits them better doesn't mean that person is going to discriminate people with darker skin. A lot of people do skincare to reduce their wrinkles, is this ageism? No, they don't like the appearance of wrinkles on their skin so they do safe skincare to get rid of them. Please let's not assume that people can't have the conscience to be independant from colorism, which exists as a big problem, only in some parts of the world.
This is why I am happy I am in AU, options are varied. 50ml sunscreen at most is travel size in AU.
