The opening had me dying laughing. While ill admit to myself and the cashiers that i have a plant problem, ill never admit it to my husband which is why i hide them in the trunk and wait for him to go to bed to bring them out. And no receipts. Ever. I cant have him finding evidence.
I think people put plants in my car when I am not looking. That is what I tell my husband and I am sticking to it!! Also regarding the patent information , I wish there is a place to figure all that out. I hate over paying for a PW plant when it is same as the “black pots”. I don’t mind paying move if they have improved/tested the plant. They deserve to be paid for their time and research. I appreciate the fact that you talk about this type of information. Your knowledge is helping us all.
I’m certain there is a plant gang stuffing plants in my car wherever I go 😀 Knowing the plant patent info isn’t always that helpful because there’s not an easy way to find out where to buy the alternative - and very few places would carry both. Depending on where you live, it can be a good idea to shop around for PW plants - I’ve found the prices tend to highest in suburban areas - meanwhile, I’ve been to rural areas where they charge exactly the same for PW and non-PW plants.
@@UpNorthGardenMI. My local GREENHOUSE charges the same for PROVEN WINNERS as other plants. They go by pot size. Unfortunately they don’t carry a wide variety. I would love it if they did.
Corey I have been growing the rocapulcos for the past few years (zone 8b) and I have noticed that they can manage well if they are in very large containers that can hold a lot of water. The ones I have in smaller pots struggle so much even watering twice a day
Geezus Corey! Now I have to find Rex Begonia -- really liking that purpleish foliage. I haven't seen that anywhere near me this year. Looking forward to progress video on that. I like the shirt -- it looks good on you.
I ended up using the internet to connect the dots. Both Proven Winners and BallFloraPlant are forthright about the patents numbers - it just takes some sleuthing. I’m still dumbfounded as to why I’m seeing such a difference in the Glimmer vs Rockapulco that I’ve grown.
You are just the sweetest, so honest 🥰 What pretty plants and combinations, I have not ever seen any of them! Where the heck have I been!?? 🤣 Thank you so much for sharing a new to me recipe!
I really appreciate seeing other plant options and learning about them. Sometimes I feel you tube is owned by pw and while they are great, they are not the only good thing available!! Thank you!!!
I bought two different looking Rex Begonias this spring. They are absolutely beautiful and I’m happy to know they can be a house plant. Thanks for the info.
That touch of silver would be incredible!!! I’ve never grown it in a shade/part shade container, but it would be worth a try… now I just need one of those to follow me home 😆
Good job, Corey everything looks great. You crack me up would love to have you in our area. I am considered rural oklahoma, so have to travel a ways to a nice garden center or nursery. Have learned from your experience and knowledge.
I can identify - I can't figure out how those plants get into my car, but once they do, I have to bring them home. (Just today I got some great deals on 75% off plants at Lowe's.)
Hi Corey! I've actually noticed a dramatic difference among the different Rockapulco colors and it has me stumped. Apple Blossom has been amazing for me--it blooms tall and lush and tolerates heat. Coral Reef and Purple are total duds, though. They drop their buds and wilt in the heat.(last week in Fort Wayne, IN was brutal!). They also don't get nearly as tall as the Apple Blossom. This is side by side in the same container as AppleBlossom. I wish I knew what to do to make these happy!
Oh no. I’ve grown Coral Reef twice and it was great. I’m a little confused by that inconsistency… and it makes me wonder if there is a specific condition that causes problems… but I don’t know what that is.
I’m in SE MI spend a lot of my work/home gardens budget with them. I’m headed to Meijer garden center to see what goodies they have now. I hope they have the trailing zinnia. Love the Rex begonia.
Very true, they’re incredible at marketing (and their plants tend to be good performers as well). There are only a few plants customers consistently ask for by brand name - and PW has several of them… Bubblegum Vista and Limelight are the most commonly requested here. PW is also very good to work with as growers. Loads of education, resources, and support… there can be some frustration with their pot requirements and the cost of plants, but each grower has to weigh those things based on their business.
Hi Corey from Connecticut! I'm new and love your channel, such great information! I purchased a premade Proven Winners Container Style from my local Lowe's that has Rockapulco in it. It's the "Gloria Rose" and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! It has Diamond Frost Euphorbia, Proven Accents Hippo Rose Hypoestese Phyllostachya and the Rockapulco Rose. I replanted it in a larger pot. It is one of my favorites, so very pretty. I saved the tag hoping to make my own next year.
I keep telling myself before I leave home that I'm absolutely only going to pick up what I only need to get from town and it's funny how I walk by the plants they pull me in. Like seeing all these little flower petals up saying "pick me!" 😂. I'm the one that messaged you about what colors to put with my fushia color plants. You hit it on the head of what I was trying to figure out. What pinks to put with fushia color or putting any pinks together. I wish I had your eyes to figure out what color tones of pinks works together. Any suggestions???? Can't wait to see what follows you home next😂😂😂
Hi Corey Great video as always. I don't know how you find the time but its impressive. I remember growing El brighto coleus years ago so when they said it was new I thought what the heck. I later came across the old tags and went ah ha i knew it. I do think the color is much improved though. I did read that their Boldly geraniums are just Calliope geraniums in their catalog. I guess the only way to know the difference in those double impatiens is to grow them side by side
I love shopping plants at Meijer! Can't resist walking thru the garden section anytime I'm shopping there. Acutally bought clearanced Japanese maples there a few years ago and now one of them is huge!!
Hi Corey, love your videos!!!!!! Have you ever grown Dahlberg Daisies? They are beautiful mounding daisies. I grow them every year, they do great, light care. Some might say you don’t have to deadhead them but I do. Also, I have collected seeds from them and use them every year. I am not a pink person but I like your mix of pink and yellow.
I have been hunting for my black and blue salvia I am not finding g it but it seems a least 2 plants from each place follows me home,, lol now I need more large pots lol.. vicious cycle being a plant addict
And then when you find good pots, you have to buy a whole bunch because you might never find them again. Then you need to fill them with more plants… yes, I can relate.
This is my second year growing them. To be honest, I just plant ina large pot (15” or larger) and keep them consistently moist and fertilize once a week with a water-soluble fertilizer. Sometimes I deadhead, sometimes I just leave the spent flowers - I don’t do anything special and they just grow and grow.
I bought some new pots today and they do not have holes. The bottoms are flat. Should we drill holes in the bottom or sides? Love your videos. I learn so much. :)
Well now I am just going to watch you more based on your need to know! Similar to mine, hence why I could never finish writing my PhD lol. I appreciate your geekiness and willingness to say you think you did something wrong, but like another commenter stated you should contact PW and see what kind of tricks they are up to- I mean confirm that the catalogue patents weren’t misprints. Because mistakes happen.
Angelonia was the biggest disappointment this year. I put them in an LOT of pots. All proven winners and all underperformed compared to all else. First and last year.
I just cut off the stems when most of the flowers have opened or if it starts growing in a weird direction. I trimmed some in this video ua-cam.com/video/Y1vbgVpZzmQ/v-deo.htmlsi=1xZI98gBc6LOQDig
Hello I watered all my flowers this morning at 4:30 AM took me 2hours. It was so beautiful. I’m home now. Look at it all petunias r dead. I just replace them with begonias and Sun patients. All my soil is moist. I don’t know why I probably have about 30 petunias left that’s it. No more petunias next year.
Where are you located? If it’s too hot and dry in your area, getting them the amount of water they need would be very different than it would be for us in Michigan.
Hi!Wilmington Delaware all my impatien, sun, patiens begonias, celosias n vincas doing really good every year. I love the petunias, but I just can’t grow them.
