Driver’s Eye View - Zittau Narrow Gauge Railway - Part 2 - Kurort Oybin, Bertsdorf & Kurort Jonsdorf

- In Part 1 we travelled from Zittau to Kurort Oybin via Bertsdorf, the junction for the branches to Kurort Oybin and Kurort Jonsdorf. In this video we travel along the two branches from Kurort Oybin to Kurort Jonsdorf via Bertsdorf where our locomotive runs round its train in heavy snow.
The Zittau Mountains are situated in Southeast Saxony close to the Polish-Czech border. Daily trains connect Zittau to the health resorts of Oybin and Jonsdorf passing through attractive countryside and pretty villages along the way. It was snowing hard for most of our journey adding a little extra excitement as the loco crew cleared snow from around the points to allow our train to pass safely over them. Operations at Bertsdorf junction of the branches to Oybin and Jonsdorf were particularly interesting as our locomotive preformed a complicated manoeuvrer in the ever deepening snow to change direction from the Kurort Oybin to the Jonsdorf branch. This journey will be covered in three parts.

Fairyland in moving 4k. Wonderful.
Cheers, I'm pleased you enjoyed the ride 😊.
Knock, knock!
Who's there?
Oybin!
Oybin who?
Oybin waitin' for this Part 2 video! LOL
😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
Nice one, I hope you enjoyed Part 2 🤣.
@@Timsvideochannel1 I did. I was wondering how you'd react to the inspired knock-knock joke!
@@neilforbes416 That joke was probably your best ever 😂.
@@Timsvideochannel1 Oh gee, that doesn't say much for my other jokes! LOL😁
@@neilforbes416It was meant as a compliment, not as a reflection on the rest of your repertoire of jokes.
Witaj Tim.
Danke!
Lux video my friend, super
Cheers, I'm pleased you enjoyed the ride 😊.
I rewatched part 1 before watching this one. Still just as enjoyable the second time around. I love snowy train videos.
I also love to see snow, it's become a rare occurence in my part of the world (Southern England), making this visit to the Zittau Railway extra special. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
@@Timsvideochannel1 I don't get much here in my little village in the West Midlands. I especially like thee snowy videos after growing up my whole life in the central Pennsylvania mountains where blizzards were a common occurence.
@@pegallen6983 Winters are getting warmer here too, enough snow to go sledding was guaranteed back in to 60's and 70's, although not as much as you saw growing up in the Central Pennsylvania Mountains.
Hi Tim! Railway videos with snow are the best 👍. I have a 🍺 in my hand and enjoy and relaxed and etc. Best regards from Hans and Cheers 🍻🇦🇹.
What an excellent idea for later today!
@@TerryMcGearyScotland That's the best staple food of the world 🍻🇦🇹. Best regards from Hans, Austria.
@@johannperaus6890 Achieved as I sit here now! Sadly only alcohol free is practical 🙁I wish you a pleasant evening 🏴
@@TerryMcGearyScotland Thank you! 🍻
Hello Hans, I really enjoyed the Zittau Railway, made even better by the heavy snow fall and friendly staff. The beer in East Germany was good too. 🍺 Tim.
Nice to look back at some snow around the railway now its summertime!
Hello Mike, I felt cold editing this video, although on the day I don't think I noticed the temperature, I was excited in a childlike way just to see snow, we don't see as often as we used to here in the UK.
my favorite narrow gauge railways ( meine Lieblings Schmalspurbahn )
It was fun to ride in the snow 😊.
7:25 onwards - a beautiful ride through an 'avenue' of trees 👍.
The driver always gets the best view, it was really nice of him to allow me to share his view with the world and "Yes" the avenue looks amazing.
Hi Tom. Thank for another great tor. Stay safe. James.
Thank you James, I'm glad you enjoyed the ride 😊.
Sehr gutes Video, ich liebe einfach Schnee
Hi, I'm glad you enjoyed the snow 😊.

Olá, é sempre bom receber notícias do Brasil e "melhores votos" do Reino Unido.
there are driving steam locos too (i think like 7)(this is one out of 2 Diesel-locos)
I did see some of the steam locomotives, but they were not running when we visited, I need to return again to see them in action.
@@Timsvideochannel1 they´re cool to see in action and are also very loud :D
@@Astro_guy14 That's a good reason to return 😊.
Sanding the tracks for grip? I think I’ve seen one where that was incorporated into the engine.
Sanding gear is often incorporated into the locomotive wheel sets. I saw the train crew clear the worst of the snow out from between the point blades at several locations, otherwise the snow didn't appear to hinder our progress. It was novel to see the tracks under a covering of snow.
4:07 Teufel means Devil in English, and if memory serves, Muehle(I don't have access to an umlaut, so I add an 'e' after the letter that was supposed to have it) means Mound or Hill, so Teufelsmuehle means Devil's Mound or Devil's Hill.
The translation for Mühle (Muehle) is the English word "mill". So it's the "Devil's Mill".
Sorry Neil, but 'Muehle' in German means 'Mill'. So 'Teufelsmuhle' means 'Devil's Mill'. I wonder what the Devil manufactured at Tefelsmuehle. Perhaps it was hellfire and brimstone.
@@MaxAtMyTube It's been some years since I was learning German, so I guess it's a case of the old Maxwell Smart alibi, *"Missed it by tha-a-at much, Chief!"* 😁

Wonderful thanks Tim, Do they run a snow plough before the train journey? cheers Bob. ps that looks to cold for me.😂😁💯
Hello Robert, it was a most enjoyable journey and to the best of my knowledge no snow plough train was used to clear the tracks.
