This was one of the most heart-warming Elena wins. I loved how she treated every tournament she entered with the same degree of seriousness. She was a total pro.
I legitimately screamed and went complete buck fucking wild after Elena won this tournament. I was...18 at the time, I think, and it was probably the most inspiring moment for me in sport ever. I actually might even prefer this to the Olympic final because Safina is unfortunately Safina....
@@chriscze6153 I never went as mad for the olympics as other people did. It was the same when Venus won it in 2000, it's an amazing achievement for sure but it feels disconnected from the actual tour. Elena winning Moscow felt more like a sense of accomplishment for all the hard work throughout her career. Just my take anyways lol.
@@jmiller05 I recognize the Olympics as the greater feat between the two, she will always be remembered as the gold and silver medalist who lost two major finals, she won't be remembered for this win over Serena. But considering the context of this win with her career, this is without a doubt her magnum opus in terms of achievements. (I'm personally more fond of the 06 Tokyo final because it was her first and she played great - video of that to come in February!)
@@jmiller05 I think my first upload was December 23. I actually want to re-do a few of those older videos...but yeah, most tennis highlights creators just post random videos, which is fine, but I'd like to try and have my videos follow the season as much as possible. Even this year I did clay, grass, USO, and now indoor fall season. It's been fun. This channel was the highlight of my year for sure.
Up until 2012, I remember just being shocked Serena even showed up to these tournaments lmao. Serena getting to a non slam final was just funny. The amount of energy Serena puts into wta events compared to the slams will always be funny. I never used to expect Serena to win them. Serena just used to go out there and do whatever.
No seriously lol 😂 she rarely gave two shits about these little ass tournaments, outside of Miami, Charleston and some of the us open series events lol
@@nathangraham1760 no, let’s be real lmao, Serena only cared about Miami. Serena cared about Charleston like once, and Serena didn’t give two shits about them US Open series events 😂 Serena just played these tournaments with no game plan, just vibes 😂
As a Serena fan, I don’t find her disregard of WTA events for a large portion of her career funny at all. I honestly think it hindered her in the long run and she has considerably less titles than Graf, Navratilova, Evert, Court and even Billie Jean King.
One of my favorite Elena wins, you can see how much she wanted it. Both were extremely tense here. Not the best match in terms of quality, but it's still very entertaining to re-watch. I enjoyed the comparison between Oracene's and Vera's reactions. Oracene is a comedic genius, I love how she doesn't really care about any of it.
While Elena Dementieva lacked a great serve, I think her biggest liability was her nerves. She reached the SF or better at a grand slam in 9 out of 47 appearances: almost 20%. And won 72% of her grand slam matches. Great record actually. If her serve was that crippling, she wouldn't have reached those heights. She also played in the era of the Williamses, Capriati, Clijsters, Mauresmo, Henin, Sharapova, Kuznetsova. She just really chokes in the big matches. Either she doesn't show up at all mentally or she has a lead then gets nervous.

That's probably why she lost in the 2008 Olympics.

Elena Dementieva is a excellent Tennis player. Many game of her I am seen.
Oracene was priceless in this match.🤣🤣🤣This match turned Elena's career for good.
She was hilarious!

Start of Elena great run to Olympic. After this tournament she went into 2008 with confidence
The racket smash at 22:08 afterwards serena looked soo pissed in her face🤣🤣🤣
Elena is a fighter. One of the best products of Russian Tennis. But the spectators saw it as a war between Russia and the USA.
Serena's 3 match losing streak to Dementieva began from this
When else did she lose to Dementieva in 2008? Bc she had her number in 2009
@@bryanmartin5901 2007 Moscow, 2008 Olympics & 2009 Sydney Final
Elena is the best
One of the best tennis matches I've seen!
Lol idk about that LOL
🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤ Elena Dementieva - SUPER !!!
Дементьева наверно единственная Российская теннисистка которая была не удобна Серене
This was the year serena Qualified for end year championship but pulled out after she made the cut
She played one match: losing a 6-4 set against Anna Chakvetadze. Retired then withdrew soon after. But she did show up in Madrid to play.
@@javi.rt9790 oh yes I forgot 😅 about that
Oracene omg hahhahahahahahahah😂😂😂😂
Elena is the real Russian tennis beauty, not Kournikova. She is a PAWG also.
Elena was a frustrating player because she had no serve. WTA players were very happy the day that Elena retired.
Российский зритель - это, конечно, позорище. Их теннисистка в ФИНАЛЕ в МОСКВЕ с самой СЕРЕНОЙ играет, а аншлага нет.
it must have been like playing in hell, visiting Russia.

There we can see how Russian public don't respect Serena.

Elena was better.
Idk, I feel like Serena was literally acting here, let Dementieva win since it was her home country and just wanted some drama
