Jets 4th overall pick Sauce Gardner said the toughest WR had had to cover in his college career was Steelers 4th round pick Calvin Austin III. Austin is a speedster at 5'7 170lbs who ran a 4.32 at the NFL combine. The Steelers needed some speed in the WR room and the additions of Austin and George Pickens certainly help that out. In his career at Memphis, Austin tallied 156 receptions for 2,541 yards and 25 TDs. #Steelers

I’m from Memphis and watched him all year, the highlights don’t do justice to how good his hands are. His moves off the line are next level too. He was our main receiver. Heart of warrior.
a bit like jameson williams, i had a tough time to judge their highlight tapes. most of the catches are deep and running away from everybody... if they add more moments, like make defenders missing, moves at the line of scrimmage, those kind of moments i would appreciate...

Being a University of Memphis fan, this was great value where he was picked. Forget about his size he'll be a fan favorite really fast. He loves the big moments and always produced when the lights were on and he's instantly the fastest guy on the team.

Nah… He began his college football career at Arizona State University in 2015, before becoming a graduate transfer to the University of Memphis, but yea he was a really good QB for Memphis, in his three-year stint from 2018-20 he lit it up, He is the Tigers all-time leader in wins, passing yards & TD’s. He was invited to the Tennessee Titans’ rookie minicamp after going undrafted but didn’t earn an invitation to training camp. Now he plays for the Tampa Bay Bandits in USFL

As a Memphis fan, I can tell you this guy is legit. Blazing speed, can catch a tough catch, he is amazing. He was a man among boys in college. I think it will translate to the NFL, even though everyone is a man there.

Honestly his run after catch might be the best on our WR squad he has good hands good route running but honestly I don’t see beating Pickens at WR 3 can’t wait to see him on the field tho
Use him for like screen plays and special teams or even sweep or something and long balls
He may be Diontaes replacement, that’s how I look at it. They’re not paying him 20 million, and if they do, it’s a bad move imo.
He could easily get on the field early on for screens and jet sweeps
Austin's speed should force the deep safety to back off the line. You can't let a guy this fast get behind you. That will even help our running game.
DJ lead the league in YAC with duck at qb with 2/3 the receptions a lot of others did. Can’t say he’s better than that without playing

Honestly I think both our wide receivers were wake up calls to our current receivers. If Johnson can’t catch the ball on 3rd down, he can and will be replaced. If claypool can’t catch contested passes consistently, then he can and will be released.

@@jaystrong5018 Not just released, but he could be traded or not resigned…..I think with his little showboat stunt he pulled with time running out and his inability to fight through coverages, he definitely isn’t safe from either being moved or us just not resining him at end of his contract because Pickens can literally do everything he does, but better…. Same goes with Calvin over DJ
Claypool definitely not getting released and most players can't catch contested passes regularly any way. That's why they're 50-50 passes to begin with.

I saw a photo of him catching it, and though he's only 5/7, it looked like he had these HUGE gloved clown hands. The Steelers have had a couple mini WR's over the years, but they rarely get open. I read this kid is a good route runner and studies DB tendencies. He will be deadly for us.

Ik some are not high on the Kenny pick but if y’all were really thinking that we were gonna copy the league and get these superstar QBs you’re sadly mistaken! We do NOT need that.. just a QB who does his job! Who can keep the offense alive and play with a lead.
