Hiya mate. Just going to answer your questions... And add a bit more.
Caves: ALL caves will yield ALL minerals. Just place down extractors and choose which ones. (Iron is only obtainable from looting, extracting from outside caves or getting lucky mining the rocks inside.) Yes you can build in that cave with the waterfall. Can only extract minerals from big cave on the left though. (Scorpions: Craft a pair of boots, go into menu settings, turn off scorpion damage! ~Turn back on if removing boots. ~Play fair.)
Storage: Make 2 stick stands, a firewood stand and at least one log stand. Make at least one stone crate and coal crate. Make at least 10 storage crates and label them. ~Keep stuff organised early and it won't become a pain trying to find things later.
Bone Spears can be crafted on the player. 2x better than stone spear.
Shield is 3 planks and 25 iron fragments. Crafted on the workbench.
Crossbow is now better than the bow. Bolts do more damage than arrows. ~Vambies can't dodge crossbow bolts.
New POI's: YES! They're Military in nature... and are guarded by 3 Vambies. (No special military items though.)
Best items to sell: ALL items have their sale value at the bottom right (in yellow) when you hover over it. ~THE best items to sell are: Cement (8 gold per 10-stack ~ full box is 320 gold)... Fishing bait (280 gold for full box)... Plastic's worth a fair bit. Other items like Mechanical and electrical parts are now too valuable to sell. Tea & coffee is worth quite a bit though. Combine with a can before selling it... It's worth more.
Exploring POI's: Take rope with you and craft spikes when you get to the POI. Each spike trap will stop 4 or 5 Vambies before breaking. Easy kills. ~Large town with apartments only has one Tech Point. It's in the Police Station. Large flask and money are in the central courtyard. Only one entrance (...opposite the Police station) ~Can use spike trap to jump onto fence. (Don't forget to take it with you!)
Next Tech Point: You have the necessary items to progress already, Most of what's left is more for easy living than necessity to live. I would suggest the Advanced Workbench, for better tools and weapons. You will need to unlock the grinder with your subsequent T-P.
Chairs reimburse health. ~Make a chair!
Greenhouses (& sinks) now have to be plumbed-in using pipes crafted on the advanced workbench (Find on last page in Itempedia). Greenhouses do not require heating... excellent place to wait out a winter storm. ~Place a chair in a greenhouse = Laughing!
Build a small defensive base next to the swamp. Build a Butcher Table there. ~4 Croc-skins and 2 rope gets you the big backpack (crafted on Loom).
Only loot what you can't readily obtain from other methods! ~ Rope is ok if building spikes but stones, bark and fibre are essentially worthless... ~unless your axe breaks. Other items like glass and bricks can also be easily crafted from abundant resources. Large bones sell to trader ok but are worth slightly more as fragments. ~It's generally best to leave them for more valuable items.
Fibre can now be burned as fuel.

@@ForgeStorm Keep that one there to produce stone & iron. It'll help speed up iron ingot production. Create a new one inside the mine. ~Don't forget to take (at least) 4 biofuel. ☺

I think Deadjesta has said it all, except one important thing he missed, The Butcher table is by far the best tech you need. Because you get more meat from the butchered animals plus Liver which improves your health when cooked and eaten, plus you need to butcher them to get Animal Hides for the Quiver and Croc Skins for larger Backpack, and the Pronunciation is IN--GOT!
