    More like this, please. Videos on so called classical music are pitifully rare.

    Great video. I bought two lots of Philips LPs from ebay and was impressed with the sound of all of the 35 Lps. The sound is excellent and the pressings are great as well.

      35 Philips albums at once? That is a lovely overdose of quality sound. Were there any of the early "Hi-fi stereO" in there?

    Great video I am really enjoying hearing about the labels I tend to ignore with my Decca obsession! I agree that the Dutch pressings of Philips are consistently reliable and fine sounding. If however you do come across a UK pressing of Philips from mid sixties to early seventies some of those can be awesome. Most of my experience has been from grabbing loads of Quartetto Italiano and those early Brits take it up sonically a whole other level. I used to also think that some of my records were handled by the sloppiest short sighted people imaginable but recently found out those heavy spindle marks come from record changer turntables like the Garrards fortunately as long as the owners looked after their stylus they still usually sound fine. For me the best was saved to last the Bruch/Hindemith in stereo it is a late pressing but arguably better than early period. Glorious sounding on both sides and pricey in the UK including the mono which I have. The Hindemith was recorded in Walthamstow Hall nearly as good as Kingsway while the Bruch was,done in Studio 3 which the engineers hated due to dodgy acoustic which they compared to an underpass. However much I compare the two sides I can’t hear that much difference so the engineers clearly did a good job!

      Excellent info as always !!!! It is rare for me to find any UK pressed Philips although I will keep an eye out for them . I was just enjoying quartet Italiano Boccherini on dutch philips last night, very excellent!!

    great video! I always feel like Erato is a little underrated, I have a gatefold recording of Liszt's Faust Symphony by them and it's really excellent. By the way, I do think it's worth it to investigate non-Karajan DG recordings. What I've heard is that Karajan had his fingers in the engineering side of it and tended to really mess things up

    • @VinylBliss
      @VinylBliss  9 місяців тому +1

      About Karajan, that makes a lot of sense. it's like everything in the sound stage was sacrificed in order to get that signature string sound for better or worse. oh That Erato Liszt Faust looks to be amazing. Also James Conlon and "DMM" ?Yes please! It's now on my want list.

    Great video! Indeed, many of Deutsche Grammophon recordings-pressings are a bit lifeless and blunt, which is odd, considering DG had the best equipment and some of the best engineers (and usually larger budget). I'm a fun of DG sound overall, especially the 60's recordings (even by Karajan) and the 70's. The best pressings seem to be the big tulip ones (early 60's to 1968) and many of the 70's "urheber" labels. I recommend anything by Claudio Abbado with the LSO -- Stravisnky's Pulcinella is a reference, both in terms of sound and performance --, or by Boston Symphony Orchestra (William Steinberg, Seiji Ozawa, Kubelik). You should also check out the new "Original Source" audiophile series from DG.
    Greatings from Greece!

    • @VinylBliss
      @VinylBliss  9 місяців тому +1

      Agreed indeed! Many great large tulip records out there. The Geman pressed "Urheber" you mentioned yes they can sound fantastic but some are quite strange. I find myself having a DG session where I play only DG for a few days, that way I get used to that signature sound. Stravisnky's Pulcinella: I do have it and love it. I have been told that the Seiji Ozawa recordings have excellent sound, I do have a couple couple but not in good enough condition to judge properly and review. Also the Steinberg planets , I really like that performance.

    I like Kempff a lot, but like you said the DG/Karajan with Kempff sounds so screwed up. There is an 80 CD mega box of all his DG recordings. I wonder if it has a better mastering than the old LPs?

    • @VinylBliss
      @VinylBliss  9 місяців тому +1

      I don't have that box but in my limited experience with DG on CD, for the most part it seems they calmed down the crazy and usually sound very good with thier CD repressings. I have a 5 disc Karajan Festival set that sounds quite good, I can appreciate Karajan and Berlin much more. That set I would say is not as good as a Decca or EMI on CD but certainly acceptable sound and enjoyable.

    1- ''...a faun'' by Debussy started ''modern'' classical music , not Stravinsky's Pritemps , riot or no riot.
    2- Love Archiv recordings , but not its name for what it means, and certainly nothing tin hatted about that.. AND DO PLAY ITS CHORAL RELIGIOUS RECORDINGS.They are wonderfully meaningful, specially in times as these.
    3- Love me those Sarabande discs though, just and justly as that Leon's historic recording. ONE quite balanced indeed.
    4-Anyway, a belated Happy Easter , Mill and buy your house adds included back to Vinyl UNbliss for what a tangled web of tall tales those ''BOQUERINI'' pronouncing bots might be weaving next .
    5-...Shema!!!

      You know how I learned the pronunciations? Listening to classical radio for years. You should hear how I used to pronounce Kodaly! Don't worry too much- at least you're passionate about the music. That's what really matters in the end.

    • @VinylBliss
      @VinylBliss  8 місяців тому

      @@roward48 Thank you for that. I am struggling. Even reading Kodaly in your message I read in my mind " Ko-da-Lay" which I'm quite sure is terrible wrong. The problem is I don't talk classical with basically anyone in my day to day so never have the chance to hear it correctly. Can I ask how does one pronounce Kodaly?
