This video is a godsend! I’ve decided to take the pumps for my two soap dispensers apart to wash them. I’ve had them for about three years and they have started sticking. When I reassembled them, neither were working properly, and try if I might, I could not figure out why. Long story short, I washed away the little clear balls. I googled ‘foam soap pump assembly’ and found your video.

The soap dispenser that I took part was sticking out push it down but there was friction on the way up. You can get it to work you just had to pull it up. So I took it apart and put some of the silicone grease on to help improve the upstroke. It works better but it doesn’t work like new right now. I’m hoping the grease will work in.Appreciate your comment thanks
Thank you so much. Couldn’t get the pump apart to apply the silicone grease but was able to slip some into the general area with a toothpick. Works better than new now!
Thank you for this video. I was trying to find a way to fix my sticking foaming pumps. Another video I watched recommended Vaseline, but since you mentioned that petroleum jelly breaks down plastics I’m going to buy some silicone grease.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Silicone grease is a necessity. Anytime you encounter a plastic or rubber part, this gives you the confidence that you can put it back together and not have it fail because it breaks down the parts that are made from oil itself. You can find the silicone grease locally at Lowes or Home Depot in the plumbing section. The stuff I use is Dow Corning number four. Once you have the silicone grease in your arsenal, you’ll use it all the time.
I too am trying to get my dispenser working again (it’s not foaming) and have tried a bunch of things… thanks very much for your video. Now I have another idea to try!
The mesh gets clogged. Soak the pump in vinegar for a few hours. Place the entire pump under water in a bucket and pump till the mesh is clean. Will work like new again,
@@74Voyeur just the pump. It's the mesh inside that has to be rid of the soap deposits. fill the bottle with just enough vinegar and pump it till you see the vinegar flow out, you'd have the mesh inside the pump soaked in vinegar. After letting it soak for a few hours, place the pump under water and pump vigorously to get rid of any traces of soap (a couple of minutes). Your foam pump should be as good as new. Just use dilute clear handwash (don't use any other kind) to refill.
So it takes the air from the container? Does that mean that I could have infinite foaming soap if I just keep the dispenser? Obviously not infinite but until it breaks
Very interesting. I've always wondered. I switched to all foaming soap dispensers in my home a few months ago. My question is, why they can't make these things so we can rotate/adjust the position of the spigot? It almost never lines up nicely with the front of the bottle and it bothers my OCD (I'm not really OCD, I just mean that little bit of OCD that's in all of us about certain things). I have one that comes out the side and one that even comes out the back! I've even looked at different brands and it seems everyone uses the same pump pieces even if the bottle itself might be different sizes and shapes.
How does air enter the filter component at the top? Isn't the air injected along with the soap as it enters the nipple of the piston? There are small ribs inside the bore of that nipple that would create gaps to allow air to be pushed into that area to join the soap. Also, I see that there are breather holes through the shoulder of the piston to allow intake on the upstroke. Is there are check valve membrane on the underside of that area to block air passage on the downstroke?
Would you please show how you detach the plunger (the top piece that your hand pushes down to extract soap)? On mine, there's an arrow on top, pointing to the left for Open, so to close/lock it, you turn to the right. It would be very helpful to watch how you disassemble yours. Thanks very much again!
I tried to fix a similar pump, because when I pressed down the head it didn't come up to its original place, so I bought silicone grease and I did the same as it can be seen, but it didn't fix the issue. Still stuck when I press the head down. Could you please advise? All parts look fine by the way, but it doesn't work.
thank you very much explaining in detail everything what's going on with a soap dispenser, but i noticed a soap dispenser that we use in a recreation park are attach to the wall, and when they are not in use the nozzle get sticky and the soap doesnt't come out. So the patrons get the lid out of the dispenser and they put their hands inside the dispenser to wash their hands. Who do you think I should call to get those dispensers fix. This place is in Sherman Oaks , Ca.
If it keeps pumping out the liquid from the sealed bottle, how does it manages the possible negative pressure(vacuum) in the bottle? If there is a hole, the liquid may leak during transportation.
I already disassembled everything because it became impossible to pump. But the head is intact. How does the head Mitt allow water to pass? I don't mean when it's assembled - I mean just the head... you fill it with Easter and not even a drop of water passes. Why? I can't take it apart to look inside since it's all one piece.
PLEASE HELP. I have matching foaming soap dispensers in my kitchen (hand/dish). My husband loves the foaming hand, but not the dish. Can I convert the same foaming dispenser to regular so they still will both match?
I think I loss the small ball on my foaming bottle when I’m cleaning it because it clog. Is there any remedy to fix my foaming bottle? The bubbles appear inside instead of outside. I think I put it in apposite direction but when I see your vlog you say there’s a small ball inside,
00:42 this is the one I'm having problem with.. it doesn't come back up when i pump.. i tried to disassemble, rinse everything out, i also tried to rinse with warm water then reassemble everything, but it still doesn't work.
I love foaming handsoap and have several glass disoensers. But each time I use one for a while, the top stops depressing and I can't get any soap out of the bottle. So I buy a new top. It happens all over again. I don't know how I'm breaking them. Help?! I'm not taking anything apart and changing it.
Soak the pump in vinegar for a few hours. Hold the pump under water in a bucket and keep pumping until you feel it become easier to pump. The mesh gets clogged with soap, this will clear the mesh.
"after I use my own foam soap mix to refill" Sounds like your refill, likely with regular liquid soap, is not diluted enough. Should be about 1/3 liquid soap, 2/3 water. Else it's much too thick for the aeration to take place.
Make sure the liquid soap you use is the clear kind. And dilute it till it is just a little soapy but still watery, if it is too watery, you can add a little more soap. You'll get the hang of it soon. I've been using this method since the Covid19 thing started, I've cleaned the pump by just soaking it in water overnight and pumping it under water a dozen times to clean the mesh, once in a couple of months now and it has been working great.
My soap dispenser has about 35% left and suddenly started dispensing the soap in a very watery form. No one added water to the bottle or disassembled anything. Why would this happen?
