    📄𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻:
    This small object - the soap pump - is used billions of times everyday by people all over the world. It keeps our hands clean and so helps protect our health. Let’s see how it works. In order to understand its working mechanism, we’ll look at a simple version of it - a syringe.
    As you know, if we plunge a syringe into a liquid and pull its plunger, it sucks up some of the liquid. If we push the plunger, the liquid is forced back out. What if we add a one-way valve on the seal?
    When we pull the plunger, it sucks liquid like before, but when we push the plunger, the one-way valve is opened and liquid starts to move into the barrel. In order to create enough liquid pressure and make the movements easier, we can add a plastic ball and a spring between the tip and the seal. Now if we push the plunger and release it, because of the spring, it sucks up some liquid. If we push the plunger, because of the plastic ball that plugs the tip, liquid starts to move into the barrel. If we release the plunger it sucks up some fluid again. Eventually liquid reaches the top.
    The soap dispenser pump works in the same way as the syringe mechanism. When we push and release its head the first time, it sucks up some of the liquid soap. After the first push, if we push again, the soap that’s sucked up passes through a one-way valve and reaches the nozzle.

      Same..but no more! My 5yo kid asked me how the soap comes out of the bottle..and here I am.
      Now we both know 👍

    Cool.
    Just to clarify, the red balls act as one-way valves that allow for air evacuation in the chamber beneath upon the downstroke of the cap, loading the chamber with fluid then the spring mechanism completes the pump cycle during the upstroke by returning back to the original position. Repeated pumps move more fluid closer to the orifice/opening of the pump.
    I see that the downside is that the spring is in contact with the fluid, limiting its use to non-metal corroding liquids.

    The pump design prevents air from entering the bottle to maintain hygiene and prevent contamination. However, despite the decrease in volume as the liquid soap is dispensed, the bottle doesn't collapse or deform. Why is that?

    This is out of context but can you please tell me how did you make this animation? It's wonderful. I need to present the mechanism for my university project. Please help! I would be really grateful.

    what is the purpose of the plastic ball

    • @ScienceWorld1
      @ScienceWorld1  Рік тому

      I think you talk about the plastic ball at 1:56. That ball keeps the soap at upper part. So on the next push, soap is readily available and poured into our hands immediately.
