  • Karen Carpenter was an American singer and drummer who was the lead vocalist for the 1970s duo The Carpenters, which she formed with her brother Richard. She was known for her distinctive voice and her ability to convey emotional depth through her music.
    Karen Carpenter was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1950 and grew up in Downey, California.
    She began playing the drums at an early age and eventually became the drummer for The Carpenters. In addition to her work with The Carpenters, Karen Carpenter also released a solo album in 1979. She struggled with anorexia nervosa and died of heart failure at the age of 32 in 1983.
