Hi William! In the last few episodes, we saw Timber and Dub building instruments and games and things to keep busy, they both struggled with the boredom. You on the other hand, always seemed cozy in your shelter, and didn't seem to have the same struggles. What did you do in there?! How'd you entertain yourself when there was only four hours of daylight?

Did you come up with the snare on a stick yourself over the years? or is that knowledge you had passed on from elders?
All your other techniques look like good old fashion bushcraft, done perfectly and on a very high level; but that snare on a stick is just something I've never seen before.... and it looked super-effective in your hands!
Good job this season and congradulations. A well earned victory.

    Three questions:
Do you feel the show/editing team represented who you are in “real life”?
Looking back, are you still happy with your chosen 10 items or would you have chosen something different?
If you had to do it all over again, what would you do differently?

How close in your mind were you to tapping out? You certainly looked pretty comfortable out there.

Several of the other contestants had to go home, and lost, simply because they were unable to have a bowel movement while they were there, was there anything special that you did, or foraged, to help that along. Why do you think they weren’t able to go? Just lack of food or fat perhaps? Perhaps not drinking enough water?

I know myself I would be so jumpy after a while with only my own mind to create fear I would lose my mind. There's no shelter strong enough to stop a determined grizzly, Sleep would be a problem. my way, you'll have 9" of wet/frozen debris on the outside of your sleeping tent. Between that frozen debris and the tent itself is 6" of dry debris. The producer's tarp is folded in half, stuffed with 6" of dry debris, folded in half again and its edges are tied. This makes it a sleeping bag, set up on the raised pole bed. There's no reason to remove any of your 8 layers of clothing, or the 1/4" thick layers of dry grass/moss between each of the clothing layers. So you're inside of those clothing and debris layers, on the raised bed, inside of the reflective tyvek bivy, inside of the debris-ibag, inside of the debris stuffed tent inside of 6" more dry debris and 9" of frozen debris. Since you wont see freezing temps, even at night, for a month, nor temps below freezing in the afternoons for another month and wont see 20F or below for more than 2-3 weeks, why would you even think you'd need a hear source inside of your tent, or a sleeping bag? As an insurance policy, have 4 head-sized rocks and a row of 4 pits under your raised bed. In half an hour, a pair of Siberian fire lays will heat those rocks plenty hot enough in half an hour. Snuff the flames with ashes, and dry, loose earth. Bury some coals and charcol in the ashes, keeping the fire "alive' for 12 + hours. Move the hot rocks into the pits. Surround each stone with a 2" thick layer of dry wood ashes. The ashes will drastically slow down the heat loas from the stones, giving you at least 20F degrees of warmth for at least 5 hours. remove the ashes as needed for more heat. remove clothing layers as needed if it's too hot.

the tent only needs to be 8 ft ong, 3x3 at the foot end, and 4 ft tall and 3.5 ft wide at the hed end. the pole bed needs to be 10" high, 30" across and 5 ft long. Add a ft longer "extension of the bed, for sleeing. Then when you need to use the chamber pot, just updend the bed extension onto the main part of the bed, turn sideways and use the chamber pot.

make about a 1.5 gallon basket. Stuff it half full of loose, dry diirt and use it as a chamber pot, Then you wont have to go out into the cold rain and wind, put on and then take off your clothing, etc What a pita when you can just kneel or crouch over a small basket. Wen you DO have to emerge from the sleeping tent, go empty the chamber pot into the latrine-trench, replace the dirt in the pot and return it to the tend Cover the wastes with dirt and not have a stinking, mass of a camp that will, sooner or later, result in crap being tracked into your shelter. and probably make you sick. all it takes is some crud gets on your hand, rubbed on your eye ,or into your nose or ear, drop a particle of it onto your food or into your water and pesto, you have debilitating case of dysentery for a couple of weeks, making them medically pull you off of the challenge, duh

you'll have 70 sq ft of the tent left after you make the 8 ft long, 3.5 ft triangular cross section sleeping tent. That's plenty of material for making the liner for the water basket, the little stone-boilng pit (for cooking the tarp and tape pants, the tarp and tape, air tight containers for tinder and food storage.

you can flat do without the axe, cookpot and ferrrod. No other part of gear is needed to replace them. (directly) stuff that has other roles can do that. You dont want the saw, either, just the 8" of saw teeth on the modified Cold Steel shovel. That frees-up 3 gear choices, just like that, That lets you take the 3 lb block of sea salt, the rations of pemmican and gorp. Those items, mixed with cambium and used wisely, keep you going full-bore for 9-10 days, and by then, you're netting will be catching plenty of fish, birds, rabbits.

Did you build a second or third one? To decrease the chances of losing all of your food cache?
Since leaving what would you do differently regarding your food storage both in the ice and without the ice?
    Nb. Bloody well done mate!

your sleeping tent needs to be little bigger than a coffin, Because it's reflective, sealed and insulated, there's no need of a heat-source inside of it, even at 0F, which you'll never see cause you'll never see the first of December. Make a separate, work pavilion out of the Producer's tarp.. YOu can have the one way projected heat of a Siberian fire lay out in front of the pavilion, on days that rain makes it necessary to have the pavilion (and also be outside of the sleeping-tent). The tarp and tape tent only requires half of the reflective 12x12 tarp to make.

William, are you trying to feed all of nature, or just the animals around your shelter?
Just teasing, you're doing great, so fun to watch. I like you're attitude.

How did you stay warm all night with no fire in your tilt? I noticed both Dub and Timber struggled to keep their feet warm. Did you feel any ill effects from the cold at all? Are you part polar bear? 😂
