44871 Replaces Tangmere at a Hot Carlisle 19 09 24

- Tangmere was due to haul The Dalesman into Carlisle on this sweltering September day - but she had failed two days earlier and was relieved by Stanier's Black Five 44871, providing some welcome variety for those who turned out for the occasion.
Oh wow, if anything was going to replace Tangmere, why not a stunning Black Five. A beautiful piece of Engineering. A refreshing change… Looked a really hot day, considering that we are now into September. Another super vlog Tim. Very good production (as usual!!) 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you. It WAS a hot day for hiking a mile or more each way with heavy equipment to do the aerial filming - but worth it, I think. Best wishes.
Great drone footage Tim, must find an old map of Carlisle to see the old lines around the station. Nice to see the 5 again.👍

A nice change to see a Black 5 Tangmere has been flogged so much recently I am not surprised it failed again. It was really warm again today for my day out, now the climate has changed September is still a warm month.
Well, it's failed with a vengeance this evening - video should be online in the morning.
Disastrous day for Tangmere but a lovely day for a trip to Appleby!
@@schoolshorts Having seen the video you took of Tangmere I am glad I was not stuck on that following train to Leeds. What a disaster.
I always wonder how a 5MT is supposed to match the timings of a 7P5F. Of course I guess the same was true back in the day when a fleet of Thompson B1s, they themselves being 5MT, were called upon to stand in for the entire class of Bulleid pacifics when they were temporarily withdrawn to correct a major design flaw.

Great video as always Tim! Must’ve been nice to see a change instead of tangmere, cant beat a black 5! was 44871s driver the same driver as tangmeres on the 31st, i think i recognise him.

The driver is Mick Kelly, one of the regular WCR crew and a very friendly man. Have a word with him if you bump into him when you're filming.

Very good video and nice to see a change of steam train this time but I noticed that the station wasn’t very busy in your video but good to see the Royal Mail trains are still working I wonder how long they will stay working Tim

The preston dock bitumen trains are finishing as well. Going back to road transport.

If it’s road transport for the post from England to Scotland it will take a lot longer for anything to get anywhere it’s why the trains need to keep going or the uk will be going backwards in terms of the postal service and wouldn’t be good especially when there’s no post at the weekend now
Update on Tangmere tim, its failed near Kirkby Stephen and the 1533 leeds bound is stuck on the platform at Appleby
Oh dear - and it was going so well.
Tangmere got taken off at Kirkby Stephen to be dragged back to Carnforth think through Carlisle, diesel charged past with the stock back to Carlisle to potentially use London road junction and go WCML
Thanks for that Michael. A bit of a blow for the passengers - and none too pleasing for the passengers on all the other trains affected by it. Hasn't been a good week for WCR I'm afraid.

Within the past hour she has failed again - reported to have caught fire and is blocking the Settle and Carlisle line near Kirkby Stephen.

Has the steamer failed after leaving Carlisle.
A serious failure I'm afraid somewhere in the Kirkby Stephen area, blocking the Settle and Carlisle line. I believe the charter train had to be hauled back to Carlisle by the diesel - presumably WCML then to London.

Hi Tim, can you answer this for me please... why does Carlisle Station platform numbering start with 8 nearest the station entrance and 1 furthest away? 🤔
