GameFreak seems to think that, since 10 year olds played Pokemon Red and Blue back in the day, it must still be 10 year olds playing the games now, so the game can't be too difficult or open-ended or else it might be too much for them to handle (it isn't, but that's another conversation...)

@@FaceAClak I started with evee as well but not shiny, a shiny espeon would have been pretty sick. I spent days and days hatching eggs on my 2ds for a couple shiny evees back in the day.

Pokémon Crystal Clear is probaply the best Pokémon ROMhack I've ever played. I used to play the versions even before 1.0, and now that this short threw all these changes at me, I know EXACTLY what to do for the next 2 months.

This is probably the best Pokémon rom hack I’ve ever played. The amount of replayability is unparalleled based on what order you want to challenge the gyms, the amount of options to construct teams, the character customization, the choice of over 30 starters, the gym leader/elite 4 rematches, super bosses, the choice of starting in any town/city, access to all legendary Pokémon, the custom music, and the list goes on and on. Playing the original GSC just feels so inferior after playing this which is kind of a shame.
Can I just say I love that you use the Pokémon TCG battle music. I spent long hours in the car on this game. Iconic.😊
My favourite rom hack. Modded my 3ds so that I can transfer all Pokemon to Pokemon Bank and Home. My 1st Dratini i bought in the game corner was a shiny as well ! So many good memories with this game ❤

By the way, Pokemon Crystal Clear also has trading compatibility with itself and the official gen 2 games
I see Gen 2 (the Generation that got me into the Pokemon game and series) and the possibility of an Eevee (my favorite Pokemon) as the starter caught my interest
I used evee as my starter in this game with no regrets.
I did a new game + with Eevee as my starter for this reason, but I soft reset for a shiny Eevee so I could get shiny Espeon

Well, I wouldn't have a Shiny Female Eevee if it wasn't for that case. Played everything else normally, just wanted that for my starter specifically.
Last i heard of this rom hack was that the dev took a massive fuss about something and I had to use an Internet archive link to play it
Also the main dev stole a bunch of code and assets from other romhacks IIRC (don’t quote me on this)
@yosh9192 yeah this is simply untrue, it's always the same drama since ~2018. To give light into the situation, CC is a closed source project at least originally, which pissed off a fair amount of creators of romhacks for gen 2 and the pokecrystal repo team. ShockSlayer aka the creator of CC credited all things he used in CC and contributed to that repo team over the years for bugs that he found. Also he deleted the link and site due to Nintendo going on a dmca trip on romhacks at the time.
They also refuse to release their source code so that others can use their work. I played Clear before, it was just...aight. Now I refuse to touch it and support such shitty practices and people behind it.

I tried this a few years ago, but the thing that killed it for me was even though trainers scale with you/your badges, wild pokemon did NOT. If they fix/have fixed that issue, this might be perfect

Crystal Clear is neat, but it's not the only Gen 2 romhack that's really good.
Do research people, you'll probably find a lot of Gen 1-3 romhacks that you'd like!

Did you ever watch TFS plays Pokémon Soul Silver Nuzlocke! Easily one of the best Nuzlocke series. Hysterical content, especially watching them get Chikorita and getting furious that the stupid thing just won’t die no matter how hard they try
Crystal Clear deserves all of the love. It seriously takes what even game freak considers the pinical of the original pokemon game concert (crystal) and adds soo many unique quality of life and fun gameplay options. Its so nice to have a huge list of starters to pick from, the customization, the gym scaling and openworldness and just taking so many little things and polishing it. Its absolutely one of if not the best classic style rom games.

Definitely agree with Crystal Legacy being better, but it was fun for a one time thing. Would rather replay Gen 2 (and Gen 1) in its natural state.

@@videorelaxant2780 yea I agree with that staleness. I played it and some functions are definitly super cool. But it feels (to me) that Crystal Clear is just a 'demake' of the magic HGSS had. And honestly HGSS can't be topped as one of the best pokemon games ever made.
Crystal Legacy tries to enhance the nostalgia, instead of changing it, a concept that works well. Cant wait for Emerald Legacy, that one is gonna be sooooo fire too
I played this a few months ago and honestly it's one of the best Pokémon games I've played official or not
Only problems I have with it:
- there's no story
- latest version Cerulean City music is modded and is not very good imho

To be fair the story's have been so bad and hand holdy in a lot of the latest games that not having one and just getting to play is almost a blessing 😂

Honestly those are always my favorite roms, just the base game but with quality of life features, or even better a whole new ultimate edition, basically what emerald was for ruby and sapphire, give me a black and white that has no version exclusives i get both legends, maybe no trade evos, and a bunch of other stuff like maybe more pokemon per route so instead of the final member of my team being right before the elite four I can find em before the sixth gym at the latest, yes I’m talking about ruffle my and deino

They dont write all the software. They reuse assets, use the game engine to develop from there. It's much easier than creating the game from scratch, way easier.

I think that Crystal Clear has a really good concept but a one single flaw that makes it really rough to get into: the levels of wild pokemon do not scale. If you start in Blackthorn, you'll be surrounded by level 25 graveler (admittedly not too high of a level, but when you're only level 5, that's an issue). Unless, of course, it's been updated to not do that since I've last played
Polished Crystal is also very good. Basically feels like a "Director's Cut" version.
Well now I know what I’m setting up when I get home from work.
My favorite part about this hack is how extensive the devs were about making sure the Pokémon within are completely legit. You can insert this into a modded 3DS and bring your Pokémon from it to Pokémon Home without any issues! Also, if you can get either a physical GBC cart, or use an emulator, it’s fully compatible with Pokémon Stadium 2. I LOVE this hack, it’s so incredibly fun and there’s so much to explore!
At this point pokemon company should just host competitions for teams of fans to make games like this, then pay the team to then take and develop it further for an official release. This is one of the few cases I believe the fans actually know what they want.
I remember getting this a long while ago. It definitely came a long way. Another good one is Crystal Legacy.
My favorite rom hack remains Pokémon Prism (based on Crystal but with its own brand new adventure and some features from newer generations). By the way, I think I recognized a "power ranger guy" in this rom hack I saw in Prism 😁

I think Pokémon Crystal Clear is a good ROM Hack although I wish there was a 3D remake of the Gen 2 Pokémon games and if they do it then Raikou and Entei should be the mascots with Suicune being your ride Pokémon and they should bring back Shadow Lugia as a rival to normal Lugia
I got my shadow Lugia 2 days ago, is do dope! I love this romhack!! I love some shinies ate different , and an easy to shiny hunt in a way! Also love the events

I am 195 hours into crystal clear and I an still discovering new things the developers put into the game. Best rom hack i’ve ever played.
Version 5.55 is my favorite because if the music idk what happened, but they took some out

MOST ROM hacks are better than what Game Freak puts out.
Cause most romhacks take years to come out, reuse assets, are done by people who don't get paid so money is not an issue while developing, if done badly they dont ruin a company, dont have to go through exhaustive quality control, and most pokemon fans just like 2D games for nostalgia so anything in 2D will be "better" for them even when its way worse.
Bro I thought I was mad when I played the ROM in 2011 pokemon liquid crystal and they kept making it better and better.
But crystal clear, takes it out of the park and takes MVP
It's definitely the best gen 2 hack I've played, if only for its expansiveness and insane degree of polish. But purely in terms of entertainment value, Super Gold 97 is right up there too.

The way this level of adaptability is possible in the Gen 2 engine but Scarlet and Violet could only handle removing map blockages and otherwise doing a normal game is absurdly sad
Crystal legacy is also best for that nostalgia feel
CC is the best Gen 2 Pokemon game. It sets out to do the two things required of a Pokemon master: to be the very best like no one ever was, and to Catch 'em All. This game is exactly what I want out of a Pokemon game, that's why I've started a new file more than 40 times over 2 years. I love this game.
I wish Pokémon or a hack team could put all the Pokémon games into one game. Imagine how crazy that would be.

I played the game nearly 100% twice. Once on my psp and again on my phone. Honestly it just keeps slapping with each up date.

Its insane just how much they crammed in here despite being a gb romhack, even most ds and gba romhacks dont get this much attention to detail. Its definitely up there as a top 3 hack for me.

Crystal is my favorite game what, id be dead by now if this existed back in the day
I prefer Polished Crystal just due to the full systems update, from physical/special split, to natures, to abilities, to all evolutions of Gen 1&2 Pokémon added like Sylveon and Yanmega, etc.
Plus the improved post game, battle tower, and EV/IV analysis, modern PC Box, etc.
There should be a rom of Pokémon where the graphics are that of xd gale of darkness, but also have all the Pokemon in it.
Damn TPC is sleeping on how great Pokemon could really be! Now I understand how they've been playing it safe the whole time.

Crystal Clear is by far my absolute favorite Rom hack that I ever played. The exploration,references, an Hidden events set it apart from every other rom. Everyone's path is different and you take it all at your own pace.

The game takes its features and references seriously an always puts a crazy spin. So if you play as a Girl you won't fight Red at Mt silver you'll fight Blue (the female protagonist from the Manga) not to mention they have a lot of events based on the Manga

a little advice, since is a "open world" game pls do not try to get your dream team too early and grind exp before beating the game, i did that and man was boring, even the "secret battle" was so easy , the moral is "dont overlevel you mons, kids"

Emerald enhanced is for you. They have new game + mode that increased the level cap per play through. Quite a difficult curve at times depending on the mode you play.
This is my Go-To Pokémon ROM, I have done so many playthroughs in Crystal Clear.
