  • The Sikh community is an important part of northern Californias cultural tapestry, yet the Sikh religion and cultural traditions are not widely understood. This documentary captures Sikh social and family life, spiritual life, and economic and work life. Witness a beautiful Sunday service at a gurdwara, a Sikh wedding, the tying of a Sikh turban, and a look at the game Kabbadi. Visit tinyurl.com/otbvy8 for more program information.

Sikh means disciple mean a Sikh is a student born in the world to learn
      We all are born sikh
We learn to talk we learn to speak we learn to walk we learn to love and we learn to give that’s what Sikhism is
Google it you will find a magic

Sikh simply means two things. God's disciple, and perpetual learner.
There is no hell in the after life, except present now on earth, so our individual job now, is to be the best human possible, so we stop further reincarnation.
The hell is the process of being reincarnated again, which is only stopped at becoming close to human perfection, where one then resides in soul form, with the creator God.
Judaism, and oddly Christianity, also have similar reincarnation concepts, to Sikhism.

I am by no means an expert but i do understand, we are creating resentment and beforee you know it... our quom will be divided by caste, colour, creed... everything we stand against. SSA . Small Correction : Guru Gobind Singh Ji baptized the sikhs with the 5 K's,NOT Guru Nanak Dev Ji , as the speaker Veer Sukhcharan Singh mentions in the above video..That might just be a genuine error on his part & the word guru nank might be in his mind , since he's president of the guru nanak sikh society .. Secondly, let us not lose track of the most important philosophies of sikhism..meditate on god's name , do kirat or good karm , & share before eating , care for your fellow man..

❤ yes, indeed. This will be my 4th video in a row on Sikhs. I don't know what started my curiosity, but I am very glad I followed threw, and even happy to know videos like these exist.
Maybe its my upbringing, but I always considered it bad manners to ask questions about someone's personal beliefs and faith. I could never walk up to a man wearing a turban and just start asking questions. BUT...I am beginning to understand that the very word "sikh" means to learn. And i also learned a guru (Gu =dark Ru=light) is one that guides you from the dark into the light.
I can respect the purpose of this faith: to learn, to serve others, to protect, to work honestly and work hard, and to sit as equals with your neighbors, and all of Gods creations.
They DO NOT preach about conversion, and welcome all forms of worship of God to live among them. This is the only religion **that I am aware of*** that lives in harmony with the nature of all creation. I am really surprised I am only just now learning about this.
      The pillars of Sikhism

I wish the program had been a little longer. They did show a wide range of the Sikh spectrum but not enough about Orthodox Sikhs, especially women. Wish they went into the history a little deeper and emphasized/explained Gatka more as it is the main* Sikh martial art. Still, good points were made even though it was also Punjabi centric and didn't depict or mention any non Punjabi Sikhs.

The film have a negative view of Sikhs most of the people in the film we're not respecting or practicing Sikhs , being in the military is nothing to be proud of without your faith. Also not showing more Sikhs who were practicing getting there understanding would be good there is plenty of well educated Authodox Sikhs in USA . The lad saying he feels better and more excepted by cutting his chair and denouncing his faith , he was a very very bad example of a Sikh especially as it should've been pointed out the importance of hair , in Sikh history upon till now Sikhs have sacrificed their lives but not give up their faith as easy as people not excepting them HS

TBH, kicking your own son out of your house because he fell in love with someone outside their race or religion doesn't seem very Sikh to me, neither does constantly lying to one's father.
You should speak the truth to your father and family. You should also recognize that love is love and it comes from god. Who are you to pass judgement? We are all equal and come from the same creator.
Maybe god placed his girlfriend in your path because she needs your guidance? Or maybe you need a lesson from god on acceptance of others and humility? This is how a Sikh sees things.

We Sikhs are a very heterogenous population, with our own distinctive personalities, even though we share common values.

@hunkpunk123 It's like when i used to go to the gurdwara and the baba would force us to sit there and teach in this very strict manner. I lost faith [that was then] today Punjabis are leaving Sikhi because no one teaches with love, they go to the gurdwara and see the religion of their fathers and mothers not of their own, because it's more appealing to hang out with friends than to learn from a baba who is more interested in the money coming in from the Bebe's and the Uncles.

Am against the use of word "Temple" instead of "Gurdwara", the reason would be that most Americans does not know what a Gurdwara is, but if you are not educating them, how would they? Nobody else use this word in any religion like.......Christain Temple, Muslim Temple, Jews Temple.......then why Sikh temple? It just gives an impression that it has something to do with hinduism....which it is not.

    • @ravinderonline
      @ravinderonline 3 роки тому

@george shah it is common knowledge that it is called darbar sahib in the community, which means gurdwara, Harmandir sahib - the name for obvious reason in those days for people who didnt knew what a gurdwara is, which means the House of God......again, nothing to do with hinduism

    • @ravinderonline
      @ravinderonline 3 роки тому

@george shah I know where u are going with this and this makes me blunt in my response. For ur knowledge I would mention that there are versus (in Sri guru granth sahib ji) of many so called hindus saints, who were even not allowed to enter a hindu temple because they were from lower caste, and bani of Muslim saints too are there in Sri guru granth sahib ji which is a symbol of universal brotherhood.
By the way if u are trying to prove that sikhs came from hindus, yes they came from hindus (and from muslims too) who were not treated like humans in their own hindu community. Once u leave a community behind u start afresh, that means that it dioesnt matter if u were a hindu or muslim earlier, u have now embraced sikhi and erased everything of ur past (I guess this goes for every religious conversion). One leave a community or religion coz he or she is not happy being in it in the first place or they dont feel worth pursuing it, so if somebody was "once upon a time" born in a hindu family and now converted to sikhi, it doesnt make sense (for you) to feel proud or brag about it (infact one should have an opposite emotions on this) ....or maybe they did convert to sikhi and thats the reason you feel frustrated which is clearly evidence from your low life question....isn't it? Dont you have anything better to do in life than to try to prove that sikhs are hindus?

    • @ravinderonline
      @ravinderonline 3 роки тому

@george shah really? i dont think the tone of your questions suggests such innocence (even from your earlier comments & your last line surely put a stamp on the kinda person you are). For what i know about our discussion you surely do know alot about sikhi, and if you are so much interested in getting more knowledge (especially about hindus in sikhism) you can surely get it on google too. Now u want to twist the table on me (since you are cornered and have no return argument).....that wont happen (i dont intend to waste my more time with you), people can see the way you are putting your frustrations.....so do i....so if you didnt intended to be rude to me...then you better get a course on how to write a polite request letter......

To the young Sikhs who disregard their heritage - you can be both 'modern' and a Sikh, at the same time. Don't change your Sikh name to Harry, Dave etc. You have no need to anglonise your name. When you do that, you give the white the upper hand. He/she thinks that they are so special, that you want to be them. Never think that you are neither higher NOR BELOW

Sin - consists evil, crime - is universal problem, is ubiquitous. Humanity contaminated by sin. Sin in us by default, not learnt, not taught. Sin manifests in many forms. Sin is the opium. The origin of sin is unanswered.
    My journey.
Sin is pre-existing in all. Nobody taught us to sin. Sin pre-dates The Bible. The Bible explains origins of sin. The Bible provides remedy for pre-existing sin, through Jesus Christ death and resurrection. The Bible is best selling book in the world for this reason. Sin is real, The Bible is relevant. Sin is born at every child birth. Sin is disease of heart, and Jesus Christ is the cure.
Satan is the enemy, came to steal, kill and destroy. Misleads us to blame good loving God. God is not the author of evil.
Media, Police, Defense, Judiciary, Penitentiary, Security, Contracts confirm sin exists.
The origins of life, natural laws, sin, morals, purpose, meaning, conscience, music, creativity, intelligence, beauty, color, nature, water, air, light and amalgamation, remain unevidenced - elsewhere.
We love truth when it enlightens us, but hate when it convicts us.
Instructing to "Heart wash" from sin is not "Brainwash".
God created universe, placed natural laws, made man in His image, gave talents, instructed man to multiply and explore - The Initiation of Science. Science is the legitimate child of natural laws.
We are made with good purpose and meaning. We are good. Then sin entered and we all fallen. Disease, despair, deformities, deficiencies, depression, stress, guilt, greed, hate, anger, rebellious spirit, spiritual death entered. Sin plays spoilsport.
Unloose the Soul from the tight knot of sin. Soul outlasts death.
Sinners cannot save themselves from sin. Jesus Christ, the Holy God, intervened, willingly died on The Cross and resurrected, for remmissions of our sins, to save us from sin and hell.
We are weak at the core, however we try to portray otherwise. We need Holy God's help, who is willing to help with open arms.
Unable to find any motive any reason for Jesus Christ to die willingly on Cross and resurrect - except His love to save us from pre-existing sin and hell.
Nobody died for our sins and resurrected - except Jesus Christ. Exclusivity.
    Jesus Christ claimed:
"I am The Way, The Truth and The Life". "I am The Resurrection and The Life".
    "I am The Good Shepherd".
Jesus Christ has the authority to forgive sins.
Religion says "Do". Jesus Christ says "Done".
Religion is man attempts to 'search gods'. Jesus Christ came from heaven in 'search of man'.
Salvation from sin and hell is not earned through works or deeds or pilgrimages or rituals or ceremonies or traditions or cultures or meditations or public displays or making personal sacrifices or making animal sacrifices.
Salvation from sin and hell is free, but not cheap. Because Jesus Christ laid His life on The Cross, and resurrected.
God loves the sinner, but hates the sin. Just like a mother loves child, but hates disease in child.
We are saved by God's grace, not by our works.
Karma is getting what we deserve. Grace is getting what we don't deserve. Only Grace can be pre-fixed with Amazing. Amazing Grace. Karma is not Amazing.
GRACE: Getting what we don't deserve - i.e. forgiveness of sin, eternity in heaven through Jesus Christ.
MERCY: Not getting what we deserve - i.e. punishment of sin, separation from God, eternity in hell.
God offers grace and mercy for free through Jesus Christ death and resurrection.
Jesus Christ suffered, ridiculed, spat-on, humiliated, crucified on The Cross, and therefore He understands our pain. He raised victorious, we will too. Those who endure till end are victorious.
Jesus Christ coming again to judge all. The doors will be closed. Jesus Christ reveals every mystery, answers every question. He is The Alpha and The Omega. He judges everyone.
One day every knee shall bow, every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
The First Christmas - Jesus Christ came to earth from heaven to save us from pre-existing sin.
The First Good Friday - Jesus Christ crucified to The Cross, died willingly for remission of our sins.
The First Resurrection Day, also linked to Easter - Jesus Christ resurrected from death.
Jesus Christ made entry to Holy Heaven free through Him. Repent of sin and be saved. Easy.
The First Coming of Jesus Christ - He is Lamb, slaughtered for remission of sins to save us from sin and hell. And resurrected.
The Second Coming of Jesus Christ - He will be Lion, The Judge. The Lion and The Lamb.
Jesus Christ forgave all who crucified Him, and now forgives all, even who reject, ridicule and mock Him. He loves all unconditionally.
Believe, trust, repent of pre-existing sin in Jesus Christ that He died for remission of our sins and resurrected, and coming back to judge, accept Him as Lord and Saviour, and be saved from sin and hell. Any time, any where. Even now. Simple.
Nothing to lose, everything to gain.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
I found God loved me regardless of sins, weaknesses and rejections by others. As sinner I cannot save myself through deeds. He believed me and has faith in me. I am not in competition with others. God loves you all, individually.
(My journal. Journey to life - after testing all 'isms' and religions, after failing to find origins, purpose and meaning of life, after swallowing pride, egos, anger, hate.)
