- Join the Colonel and I for a ten-mile float on the beautiful Mad River.
Things didn’t quite go according to plan. Our relaxing kayak trip went South real quick when an unexpected catastrophe occurred.
We put in at Lippincott Road in West Liberty Ohio and took out at Route 55 on the South side of Urbana Ohio.
I thought my contacts were old and dirty because of how out of focus everything is... then I remembered it's a Jason Wish Production... the Colonel is the only thing that saved this video....🤣
Yeah yeah yeah I know stupid G7X! Definitely struggles with what to focus on when the background is moving.

Colonel and I always enjoy making a few wisecracks about Pete, lol. Been trying to plan something with Pete for nearly a year....its tough when we all have busy lives and families and live so far apart.
Man, had to laugh at some of the banter! Especially joking shade at Pete Beck & River Kings! "Thought it was something you got at Goodwill" HAH!! Congrats on being an Honorary River King! Sucks to hear about your drone mishap. I know that had to be a sinking feeling seeing it fade away in the murk. The Mad River certainly looks to be a wonderful paddle! You guys would be a blast to hang with!

Looked like a great trip till you lost the Mini!! I used to troutfish the Mad near West Liberty many years ago. Brought back some great memories. I may have to get a kayak for summer!!!😎😎
I have had so many people tell me that they used to trout fish the Mad....very popular trout river indeed. I'm still recovering from the loss, lol...time to shell out another $300. Thanks Fred!

Great video Jason & Col. Kayaking is definitely on my bucket list! I can't believe you crashed your drone! I killed mine in May & my new Mavic Mini is here on Friday. I bought insurance this time! We should hit Vesuvius with the Col.
Vesuvius would be a great place for the ol' Colonel! This drone had care refresh insurance, but it does no good if you can't recover the drone! Getting a new one this week....hopefully I can buy just the drone and not the controller too.

I'd be nervous enough to use a camera on a kayak, let alone a drone LOL! I dont own a kayak, but been kayaking a few times. Kayak camping sounds like a great time!

We will float it again sometime. I've been to the Air Force Museum, but its been awhile.
Wow that bites!! Do you have drone insurance? Actually is drone insurance.
It had care refresh insurance, but for that you have to recover the drone so I am out of luck!
Great video...took my wife and three kids there on July the 3rd...BIG MISTAKE...Just like you described, a lot of drinking and Marijuana and people were very disrespectful. We still had a good time and look forward to going again when it's nit as busy.
Yeah, we try to avoid the busy weekends when the weather is nice.. If your ever able to go through the week you will have the entire river to yourself. I did a 17 mile float from Lipponcot to Springfield a few weeks ago and only saw a few people near Springfield. Last night, July 4, we did an evening float from West Liberty to Rt. 36 in Urbana and only saw two groups finising up their trip, so picking the right time to go makes a huge difference.
I always like to stay on the water in June July and August. Wait a minute........ did you loose your drone or Helmandollar drone 😂😂.
Yeah the water sure is nice in the summer! I bought Jason Helmandollar’s Drone two months ago, so in a way I felt like I was losing his drone as well LOL.
I want to come down there sometime and kayak with you!
Heck yeah, let’s do it! I’m telling you kayak camping in the summer is so much better than just plain old backpacking 😁

That stinks about the drone. I have been nervous to use mine on kayak trips. Maybe I will just stick w/ my phone and GoPro. BTW, I believe the camp ground where Brush Creek meets the Ohio River is now open. Just something to consider for future trips
Hey man, was just answering a comment on this vid and saw yours...not sure how I missed it! A few weeks ago I ruined my G7X Mark 3...it got a little wet at a low head dam and won't turn back on, holding out for a mark 4 now, lol. Anyways, hope your doing well, and I still want to hit the Brush Creek someday...
@@jasonwish- let me know when you're ready. Especially for the upstream sections, probably want the water level at SR 348 (closest marker) to be at least 3.5 to 4. Hope all is well.

Is this the same Mad river that runs through a Metro park up around Dayton?
Yes, the mad River begins in a field right near the Colonel‘s house and ends at deeds park in Dayton where it flows into the Great Miami River.

I was up there for about a year back in 06.
I did a lot of fishing in that area.
I remember a lot of current in that part of the river. I tried to wade it,needless to say... It didn't work! 😁
