Cod Fishing from the Shore over Mixed Ground | Sea Fishing UK

- I had my first trip out this year Cod fishing from the shore. Fishing over mixed ground.
I arrived over low water and had time to check out the rockpools to see if I could find what the cod could be coming in to feed on. After a quick look in the rockpools I headed off to fish the other side of camels island fishing into the kelp and rocks in Marsden bay.
I had the drone with me and it was interesting to get a look from above over the ground I would be fishing into, to see the kelp and rock that the cod would be coming in to feed over.
It is still quite early to be fishing for cod here in the North East but they seem to be turning up a bit earlier this year and with a nice swell forecast and high water coinciding with darkness the conditions were to good to pass up.
I managed to catch a couple of cod and Cole fish and it was good start to this years cod fishing. I plan on Cod fishing through out the winter from different marks along the North East coast hopefully there's more to come.

Fantastic video yet again mate 👏 I love the way you come across and the information you give. Looking forward to some more of your winter fishing. Thanks again mate 👍
Thanks for the kind words mate 👍
Sad to see this. Once upon a time the north sea was full of cod - of all sizes. A shadow of its former self 50 years on!
Your content just gets better and better.
Love the drone and underwater footage.👍👌And your desire to share your marks and how to fish them is admirable to say the least.👏👏👏
Hope you catch a cod to give you the same joy and excitement that your earlier pollack did.😁
Total respect, and thank you for sharing.👌👍👏
Stay safe. 😷
Thanks for the kind words Ian 👍 stay safe mate 👍
Glad you caught some fish. Another good video. Got back to the car and found some surface lures stashed in my bag 🤦🤦
New subscriber here, great video mate. The north east and Yorkshire coast is the best for winter cod bar none. Atb 👍

Thanks Mike, I would have to loved to fish back then. I'm happy to catch any size fish but its the chance of a big one that keeps me going back for more. Stay safe mate 👍

I’d love to analyse more of the coast from that high up. Particularly off camel rock and down Whitburn from marsden.
Yeah its great being able to see what your fishing into all the structure and stuff where the fish might be feeding.
I’m probably one of the early subscribers of your channel. I’m amazed how well your videography and editing has come on from the early days. The clarity underwater it’s brilliant it’s make watching the video a joy.

Nice session Gary mate,, I was up Kinlochleven a few weeks back kayak fishing and caught loads of nice fish mate, loads of big ling and pollack some nice wrasse and obviously loads of mackerel we then took a drive to the top of etive and fished the top end for a day and caught nothing what so ever, we weren't to bothered as it was sunny and zero wind so was still an amazing day. Tight lines mate 👍
Thanks mate 👍 sounds like a canny trip. Always good when the weather plays ball. I cant wait to get back up there will probably be next year now. I've been getting the bits sorted for my kayak only managed to get out twice on it this year its abit of a learning curve but good fun. Tight lines mate 🎣
Another top video like the new intro 👍
Thanks 👍
Great film/video, really look forward to your output only wish there was more.
Thanks Richard. I'm working on trying to get more videos done, I'm going to try to put a new video on every week.
Great filming - and editing. Not too keen on chest cam footage! sorry. Nice session , very rough looking ground , were you casting onto sand? those rocks would scare me at night! but I am getting on a bit now. I used to catch lots of small codling, put them back saying 'come back next year' - they didn't.......
Thanks kerry, I was casting into mixed ground its mainly rock and kelp with patches of clear sand.
Fantastica pesca amico mio 👏👏👏👏iscritto con piacere al tuo canale
Grazie compagno 👍
Hi mate, great video! Thinking of taking a trip up to the east coast as I've some holidays to use up in march. I've been looking at a few marks... roker pier seems decent. With you being local where would you reccomend? Cheers Tom
Hi mate thanks, yeah roker pier is canny, its closed for repairs at the min but they say it should be fixed by March. If its still closed in march then south shields pier isn't to far along the coast from there. Both rivers are worth a try mainly just flattys around in the rivers. If your looking for rock marks then the leas and Marsden areas are worth a try. Sandhaven beach in South shields is also worth a try.
Thanks very much pal👍😊
What braid was you using,thanks
sorry mate missed your comment, its just cheap generic braid for the rocks.
Hi mate class video is it safe to fish there on hightide? Is it fine to get cut off? Never fished this spot but was thinking about giving it a shot tomorrow any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Hi thanks mate. I fished there over high tide and was fine just make sure to check the conditions the weather and time of the tides. You don't have to fish off camels Island you can fish from the bottom of the path and just cast a bit further. Let me know how you get on mate.
Thanks for the reply mate I will do appreciate ya help and keep up the amazing videos absolutely brilliant.!!
Can i ask is it best to cast towards Marsden rock am sure I was reading early on the Internet cheers again.
Thanks mate, yes cast towards Marsden rock.
How do you kill it tho
Do you fish from the beach at the grotto pub mate?
Yes mate usually fish there in the winter. Ive got a couple of videos on my channel from last year fishing from in front of the grotto pub.
