Video description:
Forest City is being built in the Malaysian state of Johor in the southern part of the country. Here, the Johore Strait acts as a natural border between Malaysia and the independent city state Singapore. It is one of the most ambitious urban development projects currently underway. An entire new city built from scratch.

Joshua张志鸿 so scary
You're right. I think le majeste law is absurd. Monarchy should not be immune to critics. Because anything they do will affect commoners.
@God is Great But people don't blame the Sultan or the politicians
They prefer to blame the Chinese
Just look at all the anti Chinese comments under this video that got hundreds of likes
It's strange that the Sultan and the politicians are the ones who are pushing for this project, but they prefer to target their hatred towards the Chinese instead
But that's to be expected, racists don't care whether their arguments make sense or not, they only care about spitting their hate

Building an eco city in an artificial island that destroys a sea meadow. How ironic!

@@LoxD123 I want to see your argument. Come on, don't be shy for what you've started.
Plus, with rising sea-levels from global climate-change this island-city will probably be underwater by 2050!
DANEIL LEE China destroys more ecosystem and causes more pollution then America. Maybe stop reading CCP propaganda
As an Malaysian viewer myself, Forest City started around 10 years ago. They said it would have been the future. But, construction was slow. They said there would be 4 islands, but now the project keeps shrinking and shrinking. And then this is the fact, most of the property there are legit owned by Chinese investors. Because our people can't afford. The government took our taxpayers money to find projects like this, but we cannot afford it. Another example is the ECRL project. Which now is a standstill. The johore state has been looking forward to sell Legoland to foreign investors also. This few months my country has been in a political mess, so let's see where the development goes I guess.
Edit: thanks for the likes, most I've gotten so far. I see my alot of Malaysians replying to this. I just wanna say please please don't use the racial stereotypes. We are Malaysian, we shouldn't identify as Malay chinese Indian. Only if we work together, then we will achieve greatness. Thanks. Much love from Malaysia.
Edit 2: as what mahathir said to the Philippines president. Don't fall into China's debt trap (*cough the BRI) as we already seen what has happen to Sri Lanka and Jamaica.
Edit 3: thanks for 1k, and I really appreciate your views and your opinions.
Najib's administration was horrible... then Mahathir's little plan to switch sides failed... now the pandemic is one of the the few things stopping infighting within perikatan... 😔 makes me so sad and this video makes me sadder, hope our country will get better soon
Well , the sea levels are rising it might sink soon anyway xDD

Nooooo not the legoland :(((
ECRL is not at a standstill though. Construction is still going on right now. Stopped for a while due to PKP but other than that, the PH govt stopped it for a while only to renegotiate. They did and it's going ahead.
I think you forgot to say, that this is built at sea level. Sea levels are ever changing and right now they are on the rise. The pace of this rise is only picking up, because climate change is a process that accelerates itself. You should mention that in respect with new development on shorelines. Great video, keep up the good work!
I pray that it floods there.

I'm just curious, any reason why very few Singaporeans post in youtube videos? I usually read a lot of comments from Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines but very rare from Singapore. Thailand and Vietnam are excused because they are not good English speakers.
@@wavemaker2077 their population isn't as much as their neighbors. 5,6m Singaporeans is too little compared to 31m Malaysian and the enormous 270m Indonesians... that's why their online presence around is not so visible..

Hey! I've been following you for a long time. I love your content and your work inspired me to start my own channel
Nice work mate. Subbed

No wonder why people say : "more chinese give more troble than benefit"
benefit only for them
Dinosaur roar
, exactly.
Chinese are not CCP they are the members of the communist.. I am Chinese and our ancestors are all Chinese. We were the peace loving people. We did not give trouble to anyone while in India nor did the Indians give us any hardship. Please keep your opinion to yourself.

British here but spent a week in Johor Baru edu city as my uni has a campus abroad there in 2019. Deffo a cool upcoming area, pleasently surprised, some hotshot property devolper dude took us near forest city & it looked ok. Having said that always clear it's not for local malays, even the area' we stayed in are just weekend spots for folks from Singapore to visit due to their crazy house prices which makes malay property cheap af. Bigger impact of Chinese tourists was in kuala lumpur which had loads (pre covid), looks like most airbnbs owned by Chinese who rent them to Chinese tourists even in my 2 weeks there was clear anger/frustration at being priced out the market from locals. Having said that UK has been same for rich people all over world who buy it properties as mere investments which forces locals out the market, used to be just london issue but sadly spread throughout the country. Canada is worst for this. Governments should intervene before markets fail. Although I must say this isn't really a traditional chines road belt initiative project or debt trap, it's more just corporate greed for profits as Chinese loves real estate seculation, which is even worse as debt trap fears are mostly just political & not as bad people make out. Defaulting to a private company is much worse than a Chinese govt who negotiates in good faith for political will.
You're very naive and totally ignorant about JB but somehow seem to be an expert after "a week". In summary, you know nothing.
It is plain silly when M'sia has lots of land and yet it reclaims one to build a city...
Land reclamation has been going around for tens of years in Singapore and Dubai. Hope neo give attention too to these environmental damaging projects.
Try justifying reclaiming land for a country as big as Malaysia, compared to a country the size of Singapore. It is clear this is a vanity project as opposed to Singapore's which is for neccesity.
Land reclamation is essential for Singapore. If you are in Singapore, you can visit the URA (Urban Redevelopment Authority) and look at the plans for land reclamation. The entire Marina Bay area is built on reclaimed land. Without the land, there wouldn't be the financial hubs there
Malaysia is reclaiming land closer and closer to Singapore's maritime border just to agitate the Singapore authorities.
@@kageyamareijikun so do the Singaporean, check your facts first before commenting
I mean, if the project was built on actual land it would’ve been amazing, literally what I and many people want to do in the future which is to offset air pollution, specially with an electric public transport , the problem is that governments know pollution is a huge issue and they don’t invest in it so private companies have to, it’s sad. But then again, if it was built on land, making a whole island is...a bit counter productive lol
Hello ! Love your content, keep up the good work !
The quality of this guy’s content is amazing. I can’t imagine how much work has gone into this.
Less than 10 shops opening, Abandoned ones easily more than hundreds, you do the maths. Average 1 tenant per floor, that is also counted as the current occupancy which they choose to show for good image.
Nearest township is at least 30 mins drive, if its not a ghost town i dunno how you refer it. A sanctuary for the isolated perhaps?
The intro song you guys are searching for.

Same here, Jakarta Indonesia
For those who are comparing the Philippines with this info, allow me to explain further...
Here in the Philippines, we also have this "futuristic city" called New Clark City. The project was funded thru PPP and the developer of the city is BCDA and no, this city is VERY Filipino based in terms of design and infrastructure.
We have a huge external debt right now but the debt isn't coming from China only. We have a debt from other countries as well since our president is busy negotiating with Russia, Japan, China at SoKor to boost our economy by attracting foreign investors thru speeding up our infrastructure projects that is vital for logistics and public commuters. That's why we have this debt, because our president is investing for a better future of the Philippines.
Bobo. Over explaination. Wala namang nagtanong. Bulbul.
in Jakarta there was a similar project, then the governor was overthrown and the project was explicitly closed by the new governor.
And the new governor continue the project without any mass protest 😂

Hey man, really nice and interesting video! I have soms feedback for you: there is some static/background/noise on your voice audio track. This is a shame as the quality of the rest of your video is so high!
Sounds like ocp the mega-compaction from the robocop movies trying to build delta city from Detroit. Or other words a company trying to build their utopia.
We Malaysian have the most beautiful city build on our land but, sad it's not for us. Not for Malay, indian or Malaysian Chinese. But for China's government and Singaporean. We can't even afford it. In the end, the benefits only for them.
The concept is beautiful, it would be an amazing breath of fresh air (excuse the pun) if all urban cities became intertwined with nature.
Are you kidding?!
No? You don’t think a clean energy city that’s intertwined with nature and has subterranean roads isn’t awesome?
First you kill natural flaura fauna to built stupid nature city Utopia..

To surround and choke India
@Saccha Nastik since it is hard to pull bigger nations into debt trap, it is smartly pulling all the surrounding smaller nations into debt traps and using them as proxies for China. It is aiming every single nation which may have the chance to be a rival to China.
I hope that our new prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will be able to do something about this huge project. From the current situation of Covid 19 in Malaysia, I have many hooes on him since he has shown us how capable is the current government can handle country problem
Same! I hv great hope for TSMY. Hopefully he has plan something to deal with this issue. 😥
Its too late. Your forrest city is doom to be a ghost town. Nowadays even china do not like money to flow out of china.
Your johor sultan wish the project will boost johore local economy but now after Dr mahathir pour cold water, and china control flow of money out from china , it will be tough for johor.
The property in singapore is booming now inspite of covid 19. This is due to non racial open minded policies that does not descriminate foriegners nor any race. Its unfortunate malaysia still had racial policies that impede her growth inspite of being rich in resourses.
These people should learn from Pantai Indah Kapuk in Jakarta. Its thriving
this will become like ang other ghost cities in china
It's a 2nd home for CCP fearful Chinese people.
Most business people fear the LEFT wing government. Matter of fact. When the UK was under Labour party, millions of Englishman fled England for right wing states. 🤣💡
Kong Thai What right wing states?
"What is built so far" does not show that "car-free" and "road free" city at all though. That is not surprising. Multilevel city design has failed to deliver time and time again and instead lead to expensive, hard to maintain, inflexible cities which are often featuring an arcane layout that is nothing short of a labyrinth for pedestrians. It doesn't surprise me at all that what is built already from Forest city looks like a generic Chinese city, even if a bit fancier. That means huge roads, which can not be crossed at level, car oriented design. It is an illusion if you believe you can make a city attractive for predestrians and humans, if you merely dig the cars (which is hardly possible in the first place on land reclamation land on which underground construction comes with a ton of challenges and very high costs.
This was just a comment on the city design itself. Of course there is also the mentioned implication that this is basically a corporatist city state where one private holding controls all "public services" and that holding is largely controlled by a communist superpower. What could possibly go wrong?
Plus fragile

For China, Forest City is a strategic military location. Imagine replacing the Forest City to a Military Base? ...the constructed buildings can accomodate a minimum 700k PLA officers. And the strategic location allows coordination with the Chinese military base recently constructed at South China Sea. Forest City will play an important military role at intercepting and controlling the traffic flow of ships and vessels bypassing the Straits of Mallacca and South China Sea.
