My son saw this episode with me and hopefully appreciates a little as to why Appa is sometimes hard on him during practice 🙂. He was smiling at times looking at me. Great episode, please keep it coming
Brought me to tears .... so blessed we are to be able to hear this candid talk with the stalwarts of music.... I'm.speechless at your humility.... pranams 🙇♀️🙇♀️🙇♀️
Ranjani and Gayatri, you have one of the highest young fan followers; these sessions are the best, as each word you uttered in this session is a life lesson for any profession, more so for a performing art! Thank you for starting these sessions!
Glad to see how you both evolved over years, from as toddlers singing Rara Venu to as artistes singing astounding RTPs ! And the discipline of appa is worth the rewards that are tangible now. And the underline message is how humble you both are & were, undisturbed by the heights you have reached ♥️ Warm affections for your sublime qualities, apart from the music ! My question for the next session - Please share an interesting episode from your Violin & Vocal (separate) classes that was a realisation point or something light, witty episodes with your gurus Sri TS Krishnaswamy & Sri PS Narayanaswamy. Regards, Vijay.
Simply great .... Now I’m learning Carnatic music and want to become a musician.. now I feel that how many hours I should practice daily the akarams , varnams etc.. Thank you ... ranjani mam and Gayatri mam u both are great inspiration for younger students ..
It is indeed very very joyful to listen to your demonstration bringing nostalgic memories of legendery Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar who could pack all the essential ingredients of major ragas in a capsule form in his concerts. Your struggle and the hardship you encountered is a lesson to students. Thanks a lot for this novel interaction with your audience.
Indeed you are so fortunate to have a father otherwise we wouldn't have got two nightingales singing and melting our souls. Thank God. Proud father proud daughters. I feel as a father of two female children's, I can feel the happiness of your father. Pranams to your father.Thankyou sisters.
I'm only a Rasika.I can understand and enjoy your speech as I only have interest and no training or in depth knowledge in music. As a Rasika I feel I can increase my knowledge by listening continuously to you.Thank you so much for this initiative to share with us.
Sashtang dandavats to your father. He is actually an artist who is responsible for shaping two diamonds so as to make them shine in future. He is truly an inspiration for young fathers like us.Learning how to shape your kid in every possible way. This video is a gem in all sense with many thoughts you shared containing major lessons in life. Thank you Rajani and Gayatri "Tai" (elder sister in Marathi ) for this beautiful video.
Absolutely superb! You talked about relentless practice and not giving up being crucial to success in music -- a point that needs to be revisited upon the youth of today [the generation that says "Dad! I'm told patience is necessary to achieve things, so get it for me! Now!"] Your taking up Kalyani was for me the 'sone pe suhaga' - for me that raga is the very essence of music. My humble pranaams to your father for the marvelous honing he has done to you both, giving us two gems in the classical domain. You've got the series off to a flying start, and we keenly await every Monday now. Thank you.
Love you "RaGa" akkas. Ragam Kalyani alapana is simply superb, and it's one of my Favorite raga also. Very nice to hear from you that how your father moulded both of you at your younger days. Truly agree with u that hard work always fetches laurels. A great salute to your father. Because of him now we have such two (RaGa) great artists in front of us. Truly blessed to hear your songs again and again and again🙏🙏🙏. Eagerly waiting to see your next episode. Namaskarams🙏
Wow. Happy to see so many positive comments. Keep us in total bliss all the time. In the year 2018, December visiting from Vancouver, could not get tickets to your shows. I was disappointed but watching a lot in you tube and i am happy.
The depth in that Kalyani, even within 3 minutes , clearly as a result of what they call Asura Saadhagam, Thanks to your gurus/Appa and your own efforts. But more importantly accompanying so many vidwans and Vidhushis have added to your vidhwat and made you two quite unique. Cant start talking about growing up in Bombay opening up your ears to the Shruthi perfection , Thehraav and bhavam of Hindustani style. Perfect recipe for future aspirants : Grow up in Bombay, have a Task-master Great Dad, Work tirelessly and start your career as an accompanist!
The Aalaap the Hon. Sisters demonstrated presenting Kalyani in minimum timeframe were excellent and proof of their hardships for attaining this stage. It is attainable after hard practice and devotion towards the art. If not guessed irrelevant it is just Marks twain coining out his quotations. Wishing prosperity to both. 🌺🌺
Always wondered why you both are in complete sync with each other. The answer is the 16 to 4 violins down to 2 and 1. Wow.🙏 to your amazing father. I shared this example with my kids and said, see.......😊🙏🌹
Ra GA sisters I want to congratulate you for imbibing your learnings to your student Spoorthi Rao. Yesterday I was astonished to listen to Spoorthi at Gayana samaja in Bangalore and the level of maturity she has at such a young age and it is all because of great gurus like you.
Thank you so much for letting us into your practice sessions. Each of your episode is priceless. My deep respects to your parents for raising such talented and lovely children. Just looking at you sisters gives so much of pleasure, hearing you talk doubles it and listening to your singing doubles it ‘n’ number of times. Thank you once again.
The Kalyani miga amogam mams.. it was really a big pleasure to listen too. What a great guidance of the elder to achieve such big recognitions, it's all about patience and passion...TQ for the great advice...humble pranams to both of u mam..🙏🙏🙏🙏
Hello Rajani & Gayatri. Most endearing video this has been. I have seen all your candid videos. Your style of presenting personal anecdotes mixed with classical lecture demos is a brilliant idea. It's like a perfect blend Madras coffee. I am telugu speaking with a lot of exposure to classical music in my childhood....Thanks to my father. Learnt some Thamizh from him through these music compositions. I must have heard to your rendition of Pandharipur bhooth mote and the murchana presentation atleast a 100 times. Wish you both all the very best in your musical and personal journey. You have spoken very well about building strength of character, fruits of patience and endurance. When you reach your milestone episodes, do make a DVD of these episodes. What is your influence of Carnatic music in your respective families ? Do your children feel pressured to be achievers like you? How did you both build your musical synergies so perfectly ? Thank you .
A lifetime of efforts poured into that 3 or 2 min alapana.Fabulous! That's what rigour does to you.And it shows! All Appas are the same.Only we realise when we grow up and have our own children.Good going.
What a great initiative! Thank you very much for sharing your wisdom. I am a Hindustani violin student. I love carnatic music as well and You two are my favourite carnatic vocalists. Hat's off!
Thoroughly enjoyed this session., especially your appa’s involvement. You two are blessed to have such a great appa. Conversation with your appa in Tamil made me smile. Thanks for the wonderful show.
Wow,got the secrets! Im happy that all parents r so,but only a few children r so disciplined nd faithful,,like RaGa.love this candid contact, waiting to watch every Monday, due respects🙏
What an insightful video into the things that made you who you are! Absolutely loved the role-play, and of course, mind blown by the alapanas. I have a question. Is there an age after which it's not feasible to be a musician? What does one do, if they're not a child prodigy, if music is a love that arrived too late? And most importantly, what does someone do to practice the way you did with your father without someone like that at home? What practices must one do on their own, outside music classes? - Your run-of-the-mill indisciplined, distracted millennial.
Amazing! Thanks for sharing you walk down memory lane... and all the work has gone to make the wonderful artistes today! I remember growls from kitchen (amma) when I practiced... “shruti cheralai...” ;) we forget sometimes that the beautiful statue in the temple is originally a stone that has gone through tremendous changes with sharp blows
Ranjani Gayathri are amongst my favourite singers. They are lovely, full of live, insightful, such talented artists, that I love their performances. Keep it up ladies
Thank you for the glimpse into your early years of practice. I’m sure young learners who are unable to see the tapestry that is being woven by their regular practice would be motivated, knowing their idols went through similar phases.
I truly enjoyed this episode 2 - music drills with Appa. Every word you spoke in this episode reminded me of my younger days and the grueling music classes I had with my guru. As every class begins with “SA..Pa.. Sa’”, I remember a class where I sang the first SA for 1 hour, and then my guru said “akaaram innum sariya varale, sruthi serale, that’s enough for today, practice better and come for next class”. I felt so dejected that day, but today I am so pleased it turned out that way. It was a slow burn and long process for me, but I am so happy that through these learning experiences I am able to appreciate and enjoy good music. Thanks for a great episode and sending me down memory lane. Best wishes
Not only music, even I can hear you both talk in loop.. probably the 10th time I'm watching this😍 the kind of energy I get when I see u both is immeasureable!!🤩 Music is the only rain that can be enjoyed without any limit❤
So lovely. We are so blessed to hear from you all these details. You are immortal! Most of the greatest mathematicians and scientists have been musicians too. I too find the same beauty in maths and music. Any comments?
Thanks to both of you for starting this channel, sharing your experiences and answering our questions. It will be great if you can take different ragas, share the structure, important phrases and share how to build the aalapana and kalpana swarams for the carnatic students who have started manodharmam. It will be truly helpful.
LOVED this week's clip. I am so glad that you reiterated the need for 'saadhana'. There are no shortcuts to refining the craft and I especially liked how you said that polishing your craft is a lifelong journey. Well articulated. Here's a request. I would really like to see you devote an episode or two to the similarities and differences between Carnatic music and Jazz. Perhaps a deep dive into some jazz standards and how they share elements with Carnatic music? I realize that this is a big ask, but knowing how you two embrace and encourage multiple perspectives on music, I am sure you might consider this request. Thank you so much for reaching out to so many and sharing your gift with everyone.
Awesome articulation of your thoughts and experiences. Can you both please have an episode just on the violin? And how singing helped your violin and vice versa. Stalwarts like TNS compromised on Shruti to get their impossible sangathis and swaras possible. Going to that extra height is exhilarating. You both are able to strike a balance and keep Shruti intact. Perhaps the disciplined practice!
Wonderful Video.....need to show my son (9 yrs). All your drills with Appa brings smile as I'm doing the same match to match (especially the gamakam part) with him.
Thank you for the fascinating insight into what goes into the making of a true professional. It is rare to come across incredibly talented musicians who can articulate their thoughts with such command and fluency, and do so willingly. Please keep'em coming.
It was gr8 that u took us to ur practice sessions. It is again because of ur dad that u both r the top ranking n sought after musicians 2day. So, kudos to ur dad. God bless u both with more n more greater heights.
Namaskaram Sakotharies 🙏🙏🙏🥰🥰🥰.Really I enjoyed this session.Same Session I am watching very often in our home. But our daughter Sahasraa alone facing all these. But she is in initial stage of Sangeetham.Daily at present my Husband use to ask" 72 Ragas sollupakalam".She immediately turn her head in my direction..😂😂 Thank you so much for Sharing. My humble Pranams and Prayers to you all with your Parivaras.🙏🙏🙏
It's been really happy thing to see you every Monday Akkas ! Thanks to technology! Each and every keen expression of Ranjani akka feels one in million! This particular session was so inspiring and last few minutes of thoughts by Gayatri akka which in whole applies to all the aspects of life! Each time when the red line comes in hurry to end, thoughts come in rush and feels why don't they do it for atleast half-an-hour (ok that's again my 'id')! Thank you so much akkas ❤️ lots of love! All Monday colours turned into good one 😍 Akkas why the saree colour is not co-ordinating ? 😜 looking for more ❤️
Love you both Ra Ga. So nice of you to share your experiences. May God eternally shower his blessings on all of you in the family. Please show your father and mother to us in the next episode. Your father has done great tapasya in molding both of you. Lots of love.
Hi akkas, you shared with us today a wonderful lesson.. That nothing comes easy.. There's no shortcut to success, practice makes man perfect, you both are living examples. Ranjani and Gayathri ma'am I would love to hear how you both started your journey singing the abhangs!!! Your music brings in so much devotion and takes us into another world. Regards Gayathri
RaGa sisters that was a wonderful presentation both the speaking part and the singing!Your learning years of childhood was stressful but you persevered. This sharing should be an eye-opener for aspiring musicians. They should understand the hard work one has to put to reach dizzy heights.Do keep going !Waiting for many more interesting anecdotes from you both!Mondays have become special now!!!
An aspiring key note is struck in Epo2 when you made a mention of a prospective RAGA University (RU) I think. Well with a vast listenership and other means that may come to pass. Interspersed with the Sanskrit mixed lingo your chat sounded sweeter and homely. With that strong note of HOPE incarnate as you are, (RU?), it is not inconceivable. Together, you CAN on a matrix of what you DID across the steep of time. Ascent is sure though hard. May RAGA be a Divine Descent of Grace. Prof SAS
Success and failures are tied to each other and very rightly said by Ranjani Popularity need not match to success. The best part of Carnatic music is that the right thing comes at the right age. And then practice, passion and persistence to get it right, makes it lead to become an excellent artist. Great show RG.
Important subject you have discussed about gaining popularity. Students get very hasty while Learning that they generally jump on next level before making the base concrete.
Thank you Akkas...Kalyani alapana with timer on....awesome.... The most important thing what you said which I liked is about the fame part....we learn music for learning music....fame and popularity will just follow...
Thanks a lot akkas for having addressed my question in depth... with demos too!🙏 Feeling very blessed. What you said is so inspiring... I'm sure it will be a very important lesson and life value for all of us to imbibe in the journey of music and also life.
Enlightened and extremely inspired by watching this video Akka’s. I have watched most of your performances and have simply been addicted to your voice. Humble Namaskarams 🙏❤️
Beautiful recollections. Great to have a reminder that folks like you who have been making it look easy for years have had to struggle too...Especially enjoyed the section about capturing the raga in finite (and successively more compact) time frames, so many examples of maestros both North and South come to mind in this respect. Warmest wishes to you both - as they say, "rock on"!
Iam your big fan of you teacher My ambition is to learn music from raga sisters... Waiting for your concert at poornathrayeesha temple..... And iam excited to see raga sisters for the first time
Wonderful listening to you both. Brings back memories of our music classes where sadly we dodged practice sessions. My father who is 95 and has had no formal music training wants you both to hear his Khambhoji!
What a wonderful candid session! I love your music, RaGa akkas. Everytime I want to listen to a raga alapanai or a keerthanam, I invariably come to your videos. And, your abhangs are always on a loop in my playlist. Such lovely nuggets of wisdom you both have shared through your childhood memories! The ease and melody in your style had to be the fruits of such a rigorous regime. I was raised in a musical family. Sadly, I realize the importance of practice only now after all these years! Is there any way to make up for the time lost? And, thank you so much for all that you share with us rasikas through music and otherwise.
Wow! How you worked hard to reach this position in carnatic music!Hats off to your father.Thank you so much for sharing your learning experience with the rashigas. My daughter is a carnatic singer. RaGa candid is a gift for her. You're our inspiration.Stay blessed.Greetings.
You two sung kalyani so beautifully . I was in heaven for 2 minutes when Gayatri mam elaborated the kalyani . Wow well done. Ranjani man also sang with the shades of kalyani moving in a circular and slow motion . Blessed are we rasikas to listen to this combo . Great . Cheers Radha (daughter of sankar )
It is very nice to listen to the various experiences and episodes of your successful and beautiful musical journey. You both have inspired me a lot..Thank you RaGa Sisters.. looking forward to next Monday.
Beautiful rendition of Kalyani raagam. Thank you so much for inspiring me to get back to regular practice sessions daily. Your students are truly fortunate to have you both as gurus. Namaskaram
Brilliant! You both were honest in saying that it was quite gruelling. Yes, things do not come easy and the discipline it imbibes in a person, makes the fruits of the efforts sweeter. Best wishes to both of you. Now, it will be a long wait until next Monday.
Good girls, so Ranjini (as a father) putting a very good immitation, with Gayatri (as student)... really expressions of a raw student.., mouth wide open.. and the acting father asking her to open not so that wide!!
Namaskaram its so greatful and a boon for me to listen to ur experiences and the tips and technichs . I listen to almost all the concerts and kritis you presented and uploaded and look forward for more and more
Such rigor and discipline early in life is so important to build the foundation and confidence in every artist and you my dear R G are so blessed to have had that at home thanks to your father
Exceptional video ..... the phase wherein you explain the connect between not knowing why all those struggles during practice at an young age and now seeing the true benefits of all that it instilled in you - is a telling lesson to all youngsters! Kudos!
It is wonderful that you both are sharing your thoughts and experiences openly and an in an interesting manner without sounding like preaching or teaching! Really living up to the title ‘candid’ in letter and spirit. I am sure the young learner’s of today will make good use of your experience available to them at their doorstep thanks to technology. And your adept handling of it like you handle ragas and kritis. May this series of generous sharing continue for long earning you the goodwill and gratitude of young learner’s who stand to benefit immensely from your shared experience. Just one note: When you slip into Tamil, can you add subtitles (at a later date, if not when this is published first)? May your art and life prosper forever! 🙏
Surely is a blessing to be watching this video!🙏 It is definitely very motivational to many aspiring musicians! Thank you for sharing this ma'ams🙏 Waiting for next Monday!
So beautiful akkas. ❤️We are so blessed to have hear from you your learning stage. I'm also in the learning stage. Would like to know more about inculcating manodharma in one's practice time. My humble pranams 🙏
Akka such a wonderful and inspirational episode akka.... That role-play was really amazing akkas...... Lots of power to you akkas.... Keep inspiring us.... Indeed we'll be waiting for Monday every week.... Namaskarams to you akkas😍😍🙏🙏
This is so nice. Just love listening to both of you Akka. This episode has to be shown to my son. Keep continuing these episodes. Also guide the young children who have interest in pursuing music
We are so fond of you both bringing some unheard compositions to limelight and making it so very popular! The main aspect which is more eternal is living the composer himself in the composition and keeping your shades too is what we notice in your rendition akkas! Not only classicality but also Bhavam aspect! How do you try to bring or manage or live while practicing akkas? What all aspects you consider ?
The sheer melodic beauty of your singing gives such an immense pleasure to the mind... No matter how bad the mood is# great job:) keep going ahead✌🙂 waiting for your next episode and my HUMBLE request: CAN YOU PLEASE UPLOAD @tleast 2 episodes a week....
I have seen you both and your father during your teenage days....how intense you were regarding music and life in general. You had forgotten to wear necklace to the concert...your father asked you to wear it on the way to the venue. But you couldn't care less about mundane things. It just amazed me.
A big salute to your father for harnessing and gifting such two great “Amulya Ratnas” to todays music universe!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼 So proud of you two sisters🤗🤗🙏🏼

Regards
Gayathri
So happy to hear you both lovely sisters. Very motivating to hear that you felt you are not getting anywhere. This is where I am right now.
Good Morning Ms Ranjani Gayathri, Jai Sri Krishna Thank you so much of your beautiful programme about the RaGa Episode 2 "Music drill with Appa"
Thanks a lot akkas for having addressed my question in depth... with demos too!🙏 Feeling very blessed. What you said is so inspiring... I'm sure it will be a very important lesson and life value for all of us to imbibe in the journey of music and also life.
Good day. Only today I came across this video. Hard and consistent work will always hold up and be counted. Rajkumar Malaysia
Iam your big fan of you teacher
My ambition is to learn music from raga sisters... Waiting for your concert at poornathrayeesha temple..... And iam excited to see raga sisters for the first time
Really you both are legends...really I would like to hear a three combo Carnatic Darbhar....with Nithyashree Mahadevan mam...
3 Devi Power....
Wonderful listening to you both. Brings back memories of our music classes where sadly we dodged practice sessions. My father who is 95 and has had no formal music training wants you both to hear his Khambhoji!
Wow, it is so nice to get to know people whom we admire. Thanks akkas for making my Monday better.
Beautiful! Thank you for these wonderful sessions, they are inspiring.
RaGa candid
is a gift for her.You're our inspiration.Stay blessed.Greetings.
Great .
Cheers
Radha (daughter of sankar )

Beautiful rendition of Kalyani raagam. Thank you so much for inspiring me to get back to regular practice sessions daily. Your students are truly fortunate to have you both as gurus. Namaskaram
Good evening Madam. Very good program and very interesting program Madam. Thank you Madam.
Brilliant! You both were honest in saying that it was quite gruelling. Yes, things do not come easy and the discipline it imbibes in a person, makes the fruits of the efforts sweeter. Best wishes to both of you. Now, it will be a long wait until next Monday.
That was a beautiful Kalyani alapanam. I often listen to your 'ethavunnara' on you tube. Simply beautiful. Thank you
Thank you 🙏 this is really nice to know your learning experience as kid , I have 10 year old experiencing the same 💐it’s very nice to know the path .
Good girls, so Ranjini (as a father) putting a very good immitation, with Gayatri (as student)... really expressions of a raw student.., mouth wide open.. and the acting father asking her to open not so that wide!!
Started my Monday with this wonderful candid talk. Enjoyed it thoroughly! Very nice! Thank you!

Such rigor and discipline early in life is so important to build the foundation and confidence in every artist and you my dear R G are so blessed to have had that at home thanks to your father
Great initiative🙏🙏Thank you both very much!!Will be of great help for youngsters and budding artists.
Wonderful felt very connected with what you are talking about.... Feeling ver happy and for thank you both akkas

Very nice of you to share your practice experience . Overnight popularity does not appeal. Looking forward for the next Monday.
This is a amazing presentation and demonstration !! The confidence is something to be admired
God Bless
Sai Ram
You are so down to earth, when you are so talented and famous.
Much needed motivation for tomorrow's test for me. Thanks a lot for your golden words of wisdom
