😂 No, you’re not the only one! Hoka is SO trendy right now! They work well for a lot of people, including me! This is a good choice for your race season! 👍🏽
@@its_Matt_B_ I forgot to mention that I ran Canyons in the Challenger 7s and they were a dream. Couldn't have been more perfect because much of the race was on roads. But I'm looking for a more technical trail shoe for 36-miler and 100k I have later this year. I would use the Speedgoat 5s in a pinch, but I'm really hoping that the Tecton X2 will make shoes the least of my worries. Supposing no rain of course.
@@eric-running-to-chamonix Glad to hear the Challenger 7s worked so well! They really are a great all-rounder! The Tecton x2s are just a little more race-like: lighter and snappier!
@@its_Matt_B_ Just got back from a 10k trail run in the Tecton X2. Aside from Clifton 8s, these are easily the slowest shoes I have. I would never race in these. In the 💸 thread, someone laughed about using carbon-plated shoes as daily trainers. That's precisely how I will use these. The parallel plates are like having two rock plates, and as such, the proprioception was more noticeable than other shoes I run in. That might be good for more experienced trail runners, but in my case it added a bit of undesirable soreness to my lower legs. In the long run, that's probably a benefit. The soles were a bit stiff when I set out -- similar to SG5s -- but were fairly squishy by the end.
This is important information! Thanks, Eric! My feet are somewhat narrow and some Hoka shoes have still bothered me with the toe box being narrow, but these were not one of them!
@@its_Matt_B_ I think PEBA foam would work in trail shoes. Personally it would help more than the carbon plates in trail shoes. I also don't believe trail shoes should be very high stack either. So a moderate stack trail shoe with PEBA foam can be successful if the foam is protected enough. I like Saucony Xodus Ultra and the new version is out. Endorphin Edge with a forked carbon plate is also PEBA.
Thanks for the great video I will be running a 50k ultra at the Dead Sea - it’s lots of gravel - potholes - not very technical I am debating between the endorphin edge ( nice and roomy) the speedgoat 5 and the tecton x2 I have a bit of a wide foot - I am a size 10.5 wide in the speedgoat Thanks !
A lot of shoes have something about them that's less than ideal, but the only shoe that really didn't work for me was the Adidas Ultraboost 21. My goal with my reviews is to provide my thoughts without trashing the shoe itself. It gets more difficult with some shoes, especially shoes that are quite heavy. I have returned products that didn't work for me because I won't make a video about something that's just rubbish. Also, because my channel is under an LLC, everything that gets sent to me is claimed as income. For the most part, I don't want products I will only use once and have to pay taxes on. I'm also a fairly positive person, so even the negative stuff can come across as...not so negative! With all that said, this shoe (the Tecton X2) is FANTASTIC and everyone should buy it if they're doing trail races! 🤣
@@its_Matt_B_ Oh that makes a lot of sense. I just had a 20 min convo about LLCs with my dad after your response 🤣. Anyway, I assumed you only produced videos on shoes that you liked/interested you. Thanks for the response!
The XU2 seems a little more solid. Not as much of a pared down racing shoe and perhaps giving a lot more all around protection! How does it compare underfoot?
@@its_Matt_B_ I ordered a pair yesterday Matt. Your review tipped me over. I had ordered a pair of Mafate Speed 4's but cancelled before they shipped. I have the Endorphin Edge (Blazingly fast but unstable on gnarly terrain ) and the Vectiv Summit Pro (also blazingly fast but equally fast wearing lugs and some rubbing from the carbon wings). I hope the Tecton X 2's will be the carbon plated sweet spot for me to take to the UTMB TDS in August🤞
Nice review 👌
Thanks, Raul! 👊🏽
Considering these for 2024 race season. Which will be my first 🎉 I've found that Hoka shoes really work well for me. I can't be the only one am I?

Nice review, thanks!
Cheers, Ruth! Are you thinking of picking up a pair?
Wow! I just bought these yesterday. Glad to know you liked them
They are SO good! I know you're going to be happy with them!

@@eric-running-to-chamonix This is great feedback for the shoes! It's surprising, but people need to know how they feel!
Just know that the toebox is now a little less friendly for wider big toes compared to x1. And I do own this x2. Great review, Matt!

🍽 Looks like a good updated to Tecton X. What is missing is their new PEBA foam that they incorporated in Rocket X.
Do you think PEBA would be a good option for trail shoes? It doesn’t seem like it would be durable enough, but I bet it would feel great underfoot!

I'm getting mine on a holiday discount
That automatically makes them 10x better! 🎉
🍽️ i have version 1 and looks like they made nice improvements to version 2. Might pick it up at some point
I didn't get V1, so I can't compare, but V2 is fantastic and makes me realize the hype around V1 last year was well-deserved!
Thanks for the great video

I don't think the Tecton X2 are available in wide (yet?), so you'll be better off with the Speedgoat! When in doubt, it's always the Speedgoat! 🤣
Did you consider Saucony Xodus Ultra 2? It has a flexible rock plate and PWRRUN PB (PEBA foam in the code).
Matt, honest question, have you ever gave a shoe a negative review?

I bought this for an upcoming 50k. However, I'm liking the Saucony xodus ultra 2 a little more.

@@its_Matt_B_ it feels like a speed 3 for trail to me. It has PWRRUN PB foam (but no plate). It's just a little more comfortable.
@@eriktred It has a flexible rock plate (I know it is different purpose) which works well with rocky terrain.
🍽 i have them and 🥰🥰😍😍😘😘
Good to hear, Mile, and also I'm not surprised you love them!!!
