  • In Australia, acknowledging the Indigenous owners of the land you are on is common practice. But the true meaning of the acknowledgment of country is often overlooked by non-indigenous people, so what does it mean to acknowledge the land on which you stand? Unngoorra and Injarra Harbour are brothers from Winton, Central West Queensland. They are descendants of the Warluwarra, Eastern Arrente, and Yirendali peoples, with family connection spanning from the North Western regions of Queensland, into the Central Desert regions of the Northern Territory. Both brothers are pursuing medicine at The University of Queensland. Injarra is in his second year of biomedical science and plans to commence the Doctor of Medicine program in 2024. Unngoorra is currently in his second year of the Doctor of Medicine program. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. This is my country. I do not have to be welcomed to it, or acknowledge the false claims of others.
