The producers were angry at Honor quitting the show, they seriously thought of killing Cathy Gale off in this story but thankfully, changed their minds. In a Emma Peel story,at Christmas he gets a Christmas card from Mrs Gale "What can she be doing at Fort Knox?",another little Goldfinger in joke.
Steed's reactions to partners leaving is very interesting. Here, with Mrs. Gale, he hardly seems phased at all, simply ringing up the next partner - he didn't even have to look up the phone number! When Mrs. Peel left, he seemed far more melancholy, having forged a deeper relationship with her, though he perks up when Tara enters the apartment. Tara herself didn't get to leave him, exactly, but the two of them looked perfectly comfortable with each other when their rocket blasts off!
I wonder if Steed was talking too his new partner Mrs Peel on the phone when Mrs Gale left. It would of been a perfect intro for Mrs Peel don't you think?? :)
This is actually Mrs Peel on the phone! You see when he says "Hey how are the little saluki's?", it's referring to the saluki puppy's that are now full grown by the time we see them in season 5!
Here a secret fact that most Avengers fans do not know! Early in the series, Patrick Magnee asked Honor Blackman for a real live date to which she answered - "Are you kidding, Get real, man!"
Strange seeing this. It's an episode (the only one) I recorded the soundtrack of on tape. Unfortunately didn't label it so would take a very long time to find it now.
Fantastic! Is the sound better? Coz the videotaped episodes were then used by a camera which filmed the recording, hence the current quality for the early stories. That might be interesting. If you happen to find it, the people at Kaleidsocope (a group of tv experts, specialized in lost tv programs in the UK) could possibly make a copy of it. That is fantastic!
Charles 22 Many early Avengers episodes didn't survive, we are lucky to have these, they frequently recorded live, complete with flaws. Many early films are similarly lost.
What you say is true, but it doesn't excuse the ever-growing habit of dishonesty on the web, where people claim something is HD when it VERY clearly is not. WTH? It's even worse with Gale episodes because we know it was the worst of the Avengers in clarity, which includes any recorded media that has been done since. To claim something is HD when it is not, is nothing less than attention mongering. I'm sick of it!
After Blackman's departure end the end of series 3, more than 60 actresses had been auditioned for series 4, the first choice to play the role was Elizabeth Shepherd. However, after filming one and a half episodes (the pilot, "The Town of No Return", and part of "The Murder Market"), Shepherd was released. Her on-screen personality was deemed less interesting than that of Blackman's Gale, and it was decided that she was not right for the role. Another 20 actresses were auditioned before the show's casting director, Dodo Watts, suggested that producers Brian Clemens and Albert Fennell check out a televised drama featuring the relatively unknown Diana Rigg. Rigg's screen test with Macnee showed that the two immediately worked well together. The episode was re-shot with Rigg as Mrs. Peel.

@2:10 Did he mention Ian Fleming here? And Mrs. Gale's comment about not "pussy-footing" caught my interest.
In the story, if I recall well, she goes to India.
@@tenhirankeiHe described the weather as inclement.
Love the in joke references to Honor Blackman's impending role in "Goldfinger"......
Yes, joke at 1:28
Rip Patrick, Diana, Honor
My freshman English teacher looked like Honor Blackman (RIP). No wonder I had trouble focusing on the material.
Honor Blackman - the original leather-clad Avenger.
But not the best
Und die beste❤

Not quite the same mood as when Mrs Peel left, ‘Emma, ..thank you’.
The only time he calls her by her first name. I watch that scene and I'm 13 years old again...
And later, Mrs. Peel left too.
Her successor didn't get to pull a goodbye scene, though. The show got cancelled, and then everybody was gone.
Except for Joanna Lumley as Purdie in The New Avengers.
Someday I need to buy the Cathy Gale era DVDs. I have the Emma Peel and Tara King DVDs.
RIP Cathy xx
Emma has now joined her...
@@cupcakefairy87 All we have left are Purdey and Tara
"My name is Pussy Galore" RIP Dame Honor Blackman
He is so suave! He and Roger Moore & Pierce Brosnon!
Men can Never be that way again.
Or can they?
...it was a very "cold" departure they wrote for Ms. Gale...kinda lackluster
Mayonn Combs The relationship between Steed & Mrs. Gale always had that professional, adversarial edge, only with Mrs. Peel did it warm up.
u.n. owen Mrs. Gale never found Steed an attractive fellow romantically speaking. She thought him a bore.
@@Agent77X the reality was that cathy was a bore....
She was insanely beautiful

10 seconds spent watching a character dial a telephone number. Thank goodness for the invention of the touchtone telephone!
