This fragrance for me was a neutral at first sniff, but after wearing it and especially after pairing it together with some Vanilla 28 I fell in love with it. Its different to any oud fragrance I've smelled to date and I think it leans feminine. The first spray is a bit rough around the edges or screechy, but we're not left with the first spray, we're left with hours and hours of a beautiful sweet dry down. So delicious!!
I bought a travel size of this perfume as soon as it became available on Sephora and I fell in love. I really didn't expect it, but I love it from first spray to dry down. That being said, on me, the dry down smells really similar to Vanilla 28, so on me this perfume is Vanilla 28 with some more interesting first few hours.
Hi everyone 🤗 Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts on this fragrance if you've smelled it. Like & Subscribe for more if you enjoyed - I have a couple more videos coming before the end of December. 💕
I think this fragrance in part needs to sit a bit to fully blend. My first spray was a burnt rubber smell that lasted almost an hour. Second spray was the same strong oud, but softened and dissipated quickly. Third spray was the Bourbon Vanilla on blast. Every time the scent settled down to a sugary sweet soft oud with a very slight patchouli undertone. After a couple weeks this fragrance is perfection and I really love it for this time of year! Give it a chance!
Hi Charlotte, I was very curious to know your thoughts about this perfume and I really enjoyed the review! I’m so in love with this fragrance 💕 The first time I smelled it I found the opening weird and medicinal and I didn’t like it at all, but the dry down is wonderful. I don’t smell al lot of patchouli. For me it is a wonderful combination of oud, rum vanilla and brown sugar. It smells delicious and I’m wearing it a lot. It’s quickly becoming one of my favorite perfumes 😍 Thank you very much for your in depth review, it was excellent as always🤗😘
Hi Eva! Oh, I’m so happy you’re enjoying the fragrance now. 🥰 Thank you for your kind words and support, as always. I’m always happy when I see your little colourful avatar pop up in my comments. 😘
I love the way you described this. So I don’t like the opening but I really LIKE the dry down. Not a love but a strong like. The opening had the bandage smell to me unfortunately. My husband really likes it! He smelled it from across the room and was impressive
One of the best reviews ! ❤️ Thank you so much for this Charlotte ! I almost blind bought the while bottle…. But k made the mistake of watching a toooon of reviews and now i can’t decide 😂 i am just waiting for a second hand bottle here… for sure someone here in Reykjavík blind bought it and changed their mind- or at least I am hoping 😂 I am still really interested in trying it though… will grab a small 10ml after the holidays 😁
Thank you so much, Paola! Means a lot coming from you. 🥰 I would loooove to know what you think of it. I feel like you would like it... though, even if you didn't, I know you would probably appreciate the journey and getting to know it at least.
Uhh, yes I forgot about the limited edition part! 😅 I wonder how limited edition it is. I’m glad to hear you’re loving it and were able to get the full size! I am tempted. 🥰
This is a great video Charlotte!! Noone describes fragrances as completely and easy to understand and relatable as you do!❤ I trust your reviews so much that just by listening to the description of the fragrance, I can without a doubt know whether I will like it or not in person. Thank you❤️🙏🤗
Thanks for this review! I am one of of those that felt like vanilla 28 was boring. I don't mind a simple vanilla scent, but I find brown sugar less interesting than dark vanillas and vanilla 28 was straight up brown sugar to my nose. This does sound more interesting, and I do like rum. I might check this out.
I've been wearing Vanilla Royale on and off for a couple months and its an absolute love for me, I do 2 to 3 sprays of Royale and 5 sprays of Vanilla 28 and I smell like a rich bad b!tch for hours! It smells expensive and classy, I think most people may have a different opinion, but i love it! I live in Alaska and it just blossoms in the cold weather! Layered with Vanilla 28 its perfect. People wanted a darker stronger version of 28 and to me thats exactly what this is! Amped up Patchouli amped up vanilla and sugar, its gorgeous!
Oh, that sounds scrumptious! I did wear it a lot recently while I was away and fell in love with it - it's so yummy and a lot more gourmand than I initially thought. 🥰 Thanks for sharing, Seanna.
Great description and summise Charlotte. I had a similar experience when I first received it. I actually thought, though I think that fragrances are genderless, that this really (on first spray) was quite unisex, leaning masculine ( even my partner thought it was too butch for him!). Then I gave it a spray the next day and I started to enjoy it and picked up a lot of what your are talking about, and I also get a nice incense vibe from it too, so I like it now! Oddest experience I have had from any fragrance in my collection! :-) :-)
Glad you did a review of this one! I have to agree with many of your points. It is polarizing. It is for people who like patchouli. Overall - I like it but will only wear it on certain occasions and will wear lightly.
I did not like all the hype and PR surrounding this release. I swore I would not get on the bandwagon. Well, I ended up caving to my curiosity and bought a 10mil mini. And I like it a lot I must confess - yes a lot of patch 🌿 Great review!
I have the travel size and love wearing it around the house. I definitely get the rum opening, burnt, brown and white sugar throughout, but as this develops I get this vanilla custard with cocoa powder or cocoa butter effect as well. That custard with the burnt sugar makes the "creme brulee" make sense for me. And yet it's not milky and I'm not sure I'd even consider it creamy, just smooth? Like if this were a cocktail it'd be a clear dark brown and offensively sugary. I don't get any spice experience myself, and can't pinpoint the leather, oud, or patchouli, but I like whatever complexity is there since it moves it from a straight gourmand. And yet, I'm afraid to wear this out of the house.
Great description of the scent - thank you for sharing! What do you think makes you afraid of wearing it out of the house? Is it because of how polarising it is? I will say, I feel similarly in that I would not wear it casually out of the house - it's not a grab and go easy reach fragrance for me either.
Hello Charlotte, this does sound like a polarizing fragrance. I am super curious and wish it was available to sample. I like your careful detailed description of your experience smelling the notes in the fragrance. I should like it looking at the notes... Perhaps it's worth getting the travel size to try it out. I just hope I don't turn out to be someone who can't smell it after the first time wearing it. Hmmm... I have no experience with this brand it's scary blind buying without trying first. Thanks for your review it was helpful. I know we all experience fragrance differently, and it's all subjective. Now to go and ponder buying a travel size in order to test out the brand. 🤔Have a good day! - Jenn
Hi Jenn; I'm so glad this was useful to you! I do think it's worth checking out the travel spray if this sounds appealing to you. I totally understand the apprehension about blind-buying though. Thanks for sharing and do let me know if you do get a chance to try it!
I think it was a great release from the house I just wish it would’ve been sweeter and more vanilla the opening definitely I have a hard time with very much the rum comes through for me in the opening
Hi Charlotte! To me this fragrance reminds me too much of early 90s fragrances, the very same patchouli accord just covered with the brown sugar. Tbh also Noir de Noir by TF is a dna that was very popular at the time. Both of them lack originality, to me they smell “been there seen that”. I recall them very well as I used to hate those frag dnas, now I do actually appreciate them. 😂 😘
That’s so interesting! I didn’t think of it resembling 90’s fragrances. Maybe because I find it sweeter? But that said yeah Noir de Noir has that earthy patchouli in there too. Thanks so much for sharing. 🙏🏼
It was like at first sniff then turned to love! It smelled exactly as I expected it to so that helped. I think people were turned off because they were expecting something more like Vanilla 28
Hey lady- great review..I am late to the Royal Vanilla band wagon too- even though this sounds soo much like a fragrance I could appreciate! I LOVE invite only Amber and that one can be very polarizing for some. But, I heard this one favors Majestic Woods or Glistening Amber from Juicy Couture...I own that entire line. (Thanks to you) Could you confirm this for me? Are they similar? I am trying to avoid redundancy...Thank you so much!
Hi Sara! I’d say it resembles more Majestic Woods than Glistening Amber but with way more vanilla and all around sweeter. You might find them redundant - see if you can test it maybe? Let me know if you get a chance to - I’d be interested in knowing what you think. ☺️❣️
Hey Charlotte👋 thanks for this. I love Kayali fragrances but I get the feeling this one is along the lines of invite only, both have been described as having a boost note and i usually don’t prefer a boozy note. So for that reason I haven’t given this fragrance much thought, but if nothing else it doesn’t sound basic which is a good thing for some I guess but I’m more of a basic babe, lol
Haha and there’s nothing wrong with that! 🥰☺️ It has similar vibes to Invite Only in that sense yes, so it might not be for you. Thanks for being here Antonette. 🤗
I disliked this fragrance at first on my skin. I got no booze and harsh barnyard patchouli. After wearing it for a few weeks it quickly grew to a HG. I really think Kayali doesn't let their perfumes macerate long enough bc now I get stronge booze, soft patchouli, sexy leather, and some sweet gourmand notes though I wouldn't classify it as a gourmand either but I love it! I've learned that Kayali classifies their sweet leaning fragrances as gourmands but it doesn't mean edible. Even V28 isn't gourmand to me other than the brown sugar note (again sweet). But this one lasts on my skin through the next day no joke, so does Invite Only. I've heard ppl say this perfume has zero projection after an hour it's gone which is shocking to me as I get great longevity, though it's not a beast. So glad I didn't return it bc now I want a back up lol! Enjoyed as always!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience in detail, Danielle! I think you’re right about needing to let it sit and trying it a few times. I do seem to enjoy it more with each wear as well. So glad you’re loving it now!🥰
Lush used to have a fragrance called all good things that has been discounted for years. Vanilla royale sugared pachouli 64 is compared to that scent on fragrantica. Which has me intrigued to try it. It was the best campfire smell. I’m curious about vanilla royale for that reason, but I don’t want to buy a full bottle and not have it be all good things. I may get a travel spray.
Oh, interesting! I am so inexperienced with Lush fragrances and I need to check them out. Thanks for sharing that. I definitely think the travel spray is a good option to try Vanilla Royale. 👌🏼
